Workshop: Creatures in the AirThu 24 Sep, 10am–12noonAges 5+NGV InternationalIn Dalí ’s world almost anything is possible. Clocks melt, buildings float and there are creatures in the air. Kids will explore Dalí ’s art and discover the unreal during an exhibition tour designed just for them. Then they will enter the Dalí Studio Den, decorated with breadsticks and other unlikely things, and learn how to make the creatures they draw become creatures in the air. Workshop: Real, Surreal, Unreal!Fri 25 Sep, 10.30am–3.30pmAges 11–15NGV InternationalSpend a day of discovery and art making, inspired by the world of Salvador Dalí with artist Juan Ford. It is in part a surrealist world where the real and unreal meet, where dreams and waking reality blend. Salvador Dalí ’s surprising and fantastic art includes melting clocks, distorted figures and suspended buildings. Explore how Surrealists used weird but effective methods to inspire new art works. Create drawings and paintings based on strange reflections in highly polished surfaces of exhaust pipes, silver teapots and spoons. Fully supervised. Bring your own lunch. NGV Kids Cube

NGV Kids Cube opens late 2009 at Federation Square. Children 0–8 years and their families will experience creative installations designed just for them and engage in a variety of self-led, related activities. It will be a place where families can have fun, learn and share new experiences in the visual arts, all for free.

Salvador Dalí: Liquid Desire Labels Just for Kids!NGV InternationalImagination, dreams and excitement are all part of a child’s experience when they discover Salvador Dalí ’s art. To introduce children to Dalí and his art, the NGV has a range of activities to guide and inspire. As a new initiative, children can navigate the

exhibition with labels written just for them – a trail of ants will be their guide.

Art Classes

Ages 6–10 & Ages 11–15 NGV InternationalNGV Kids are imaginative, creative and individual. The NGV Collection holds a broad and exciting range of art that is culturally diverse, from ancient times to now. Over six sessions, NGV Kids Art Classes open up possibilities within the visual arts to children. During each session, under the guidance of experienced art educators, they discover treasures of the gallery when they visit select original works and exhibitions. They learn the language of art through informal group discussions and observational drawings. Then in the studios, they respond by creating art, both 2D and 3D using a variety of media. On completion, each young artist takes home a personalised folio of art works based on his or her experiences.

NGV Arty Party

Ages 5+Want to bring out the emerging artist in your birthday child and their guests? Then an Arty Party is for you! Choose a theme and we will tailor a party that includes a Gallery activity, art-making in the studio and a bite to eat with a special kids party menu. Themes include:  •  Happy Hatter: find some of the hats from days gone by and make a paper hat to wear. Making Faces:•  discover the masks in the Egyptian and Oceanic collection and decorate a mask of your own. •  Art You Wear:  check out contemporary art and make a badge full of ideas. Paint a Portrait:•  Meet people in portraits of old in the 18th Century Gallery, then in the studio dress up in period costume and paint a portrait.
