Week 6 – 7th March 2018 Sharing Our News What a great way to start the week with our P&C AGM being held on Monday night. It was wonderful to see 30 enthusiastic and keen parents of King Street Public School take on new roles on the executive as well as play a supportive role in their child's education. I would like to acknowledge the outstanding work of our previous committee for the effort and commitment you displayed in assisting our teachers and students with resources. Congratulations to the following parents who were elected for the 2018 P&C Committee: Lisa Baily - President; Maxene Hamson & Mark Newton - Vice Presidents; Alison Schubert - Secretary; Ros Kelley - Treasurer; Jodie McCarthy - Uniform Shop; & Jacinta Bartley – Fundraising Coordinator. King Street Public School staff and students look forward to working with the P&C Committee over the next twelve months. A huge thanks to the P&C who kindly bought three new Commbox’s for our classes with the option of purchasing more after "Cracker Night". This will assist our teachers and create an engaging learning environment for our students. Today is ‘Celebrate your P&C Day’. A huge thanks to all of our parents and citizens who have helped and supported our school over many years. It is much appreciated. To keep our students safe, all of our gates will be shut from Monday 12th March during school hours. If you need to enter the school, please open the latch from the inside and shut the gate once you have entered onto school grounds. We are also encouraging all students and families to use the gate near the Canteen when entering the school. The Dental Clinic gate will be locked every day except for Tuesdays. Thanks for your support in this matter. This week our PBL topic talks about "Keeping me to me". It is important for all students to feel safe at school and to talk with a teacher if they have a problem. Teachers at King Street Public School follow up on all matters that are communicated to them. Please reinforce this subject at home to promote our PBL values of being Kind, Safe, Proud and Supportive. It has been a pleasure to meet our School Captains this week and discuss with them the strengths of King Street Public School. All of our leaders have been at our school since Kindergarten and are wonderful advocates for our school. I look forward to working with them over the next twelve months. Just a reminder that our School Staff Development Day is on next Thursday 15th March, 2018. All staff will be off site, learning about Visible Wellbeing. All families will need to organise alternative arrangements for your child/ren on this day. This year we will be supporting the National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence - Bullying No Way! campaign.

We will be running a Poster Competition K-6 for students or classes to design posters that we can display around the school which either:

• Inform students of about what is bullying • How to make our school safer and more

respectful • How to respond if you are feeling like

you are being bullied • What to do if you are being bullied on

social media • How to support others who have

experienced bullying • How can I make our school a friendly

place?

The winning posters will be published in the newsletter, on our Facebook Page and displayed around the school.

For more information about the Bullying No Way initiative follow the link below.

New P&C Executive Elected

Thank you to everyone who attended the P&C AGM on Monday evening. It was fantastic to welcome so many supportive parents. A sincere thank you to the outgoing Committee who have spent countless hours working for our school. Special mention must go to to Dawn Knight and Tania Almond for their contribution. The 2017 P&C donated over $13,000 of resources to our school last year, including infants readers, equipment for the quad, an upgrade of the Uniform Shop, funding the Interrelate Program, funding Book Week prizes, new drum sticks and sound equipment for the hall. This is an incredible effort.

We would like to welcome the new P&C Executive:

President: Lisa Baily Vice Presidents: Maxene Hamson, Mark Newton Secretary: Alison Schubert Treasurer: Ros Kelley Uniform Shop Co-ordinator: Jodie McCarthy Fundraising Co-ordinator: Jacinta Bartley

The next P&C Meeting will be held on Monday, 26th March. Everyone is welcome.

Outstanding Sportsmanship from Rugby 7s

Last Thursday, 12 Stage 3 students represented KSPS at the Hunter Rugby 7s Gala Day, held at Maitland.

Despite only two of the boys having experience playing Rugby Union, the team picked up the rules and pace of the game quickly.

KSPS started strong, securing a win over HVGS in a close battle, which saw Julian stealing the ball and running away with the match winning try.

Our second game was against St Pauls Rutherford - Paris started the game with a thrilling length of the field, individual try. KSPS streaked out to a 3-try lead before being chased down late in the game to end in a draw.

In the third game, our boys came up against "River Schools". KSPS really found their form in this game, beating their opposition 6-1. Outstanding defence from Naite and Jack set the tone for the match which saw the boys pile on the points with outstanding efforts from Brandon and Paris.

Going into the final game against Bolwarra was always going to test the boys' knowledge of the game with more experienced opponents. Despite this, KSPS matched the team physically, however went down 5-1, with Paris being the sole try scorer. Special mention to Marcus and Nate, who showed great determination in both defence and attack.

Overall, the boys played extremely well and shocked their competition! There was numerous compliments on both the boy’s skills and sportsmanship on and off the field. Outstanding effort boys!

Proud Coach, Phillip Lindsell

EASTER RAFFLE DONATIONS NEEDED!

Each year our P&C hold a MEGA EASTER RAFFLE to fundraise for our school.
