Horizons of Hope is the new education framework for the Archdiocese of Melbourne and will support Catholic school communities to engage in dialogue about the distinctive nature of teaching, leading and designing learning in our schools. reports will help us to celebrate what we are doing well in our school, as well as give us some strategic directions for school improvement.

School Community - EMERALD BBQ We thank Mary Larkin for coordinating last Saturday’s Emerald BBQ through Emerald Meats. We thank the families that ran the BBQ last weekend, generously donating their time - Giudice, Mattucci, van den Bos, and Nelson— Thank you!

School Community - WORKING BEE This Saturday from 8:30am - 11:00am we will conduct our Working Bee. We thank the following families for volunteering this Saturday - Hall, Jennings, Larkin, Van Kampen, Hooper, Cook and Bohun.

Learning and Teaching: Professional Learning SCHOOL CLOSURE DAY—Friday 8 September As communicated previously, there will be a School Closure Day on Friday, 8 September. On this day school staff will visit Chirnside Park Primary School to observe literacy in action. Following the visit, we will return to St Paul’s and engage in further learning with Di Wilkinson (Literacy Consultant) on our literacy pedagogy.

Extra Curricula - PIED PIPER PHOTOS Ms Paula Hogan took some terrific photos throughout the day last Thursday. I am happy to send out the photos of your child through email to you. We tried our best to capture each student in some way, and if you email me with the subject line: “Pied Piper Photos Please”, I will check the photos and send any of your child to you. This could take a few weeks depending on how many emails I get! So I ask for patience, thanks. Please email: [email protected] by 3:30pm Friday, 25 August. We respectfully request that if your child is in a photo with other children that the photo does not go up on social media unless permission from other parents is granted.

PIED PIPER DVD: DVDs can be ordered from “School Memories Captured” for the pre-paid price of $25. Envelopes were sent home previously, and are available at the office.

2018 PREP ENROLMENT INTERVIEWS This week we will complete all 2018 Prep Family Enrolment Interviews. We look forward to welcoming our new Prep students and are thrilled that these young people will join our community. If you know of any families that are still undecided please encourage them to call the office and book a tour at St Paul’s - I am always very happy and proud to show prospective families around!

School Community - THE GREAT COMMUNITY RAFFLE Thank you to our P&F, particularly Sally Zylinski, for coordinating the Great Community Raffle with Ferntree Gully Nissan. Last Tuesday we received $1,142.00 and we thank all families for supporting this initiative. Kind Regards,

Michael Watt Principal

P&F meeting tomorrow—Friday, 25 August in the Meeting Room at 8.45am.

All welcome.

Get your orders in for Dad’s Big Brekkie next Friday, 1 September

This year children can order a $3 bacon and egg roll for breakfast with Dad

before class, in our special Fathers Day celebration from 8am to 8.45am

next Friday. Your orders should be in by now. Dad/Grandpa/special friends

get their roll for free, and can buy a coffee or hot chocolate from The Kellie

Bean coffee cart – as can teachers and Mums who are at school on Friday

morning.

Bring some money for Fathers Day stall—Friday, 1 September

On behalf of the P&F, Sarah K has bought a great range of small gifts for

the children to buy a Fathers Day present on the same day as the Dad’s Big

Brekkie, in the foyer at school. Children will be brought from class to choose

their present, so make sure you send them with some change. We will have

a couple of raffle items too, but the number of tickets children are permitted

to buy will be restricted, so that they don’t spend all their money in the hope

of winning! If you can help with running the stall between 8.30am and

midday, please let the office or Sarah know.

Registrations open for Dog Show—14 October

If you have a dog or your neighbour would like to enter theirs in the St Paul’s

Community Dog Show in October, just pick up a form from the office (or print

form in this newsletter) to register. There are fantastic rosettes and prizes to be

won.

Each entry costs $4.00 per class, and the classes are:

5-7 year old handlers (with parental supervision)

8-10 year old handlers (with parental supervision)

11-14 year old handlers

Fun adult dog class

Puppy class (dogs under 12 months)

And there are the fun novelty classes:

Waggiest tail

Prettiest female dog

Most handsome male dog

Golden oldies (over 8 years old)

Best trick

Thanks to Lisa C-L for all her hard work in organising the show and the Mt Evelyn Vet

Clinic & Animal Hospital for kindly sponsoring it.

What can you buy with 5c? Nothing.

But Mini Vinnie’s can put them to good

use, towards our efforts in helping the

homeless.

Starting Friday, 21 April and every Friday until the end

of term three, we are asking for children to bring in 5-cent

coins.

At the end of term three, whichever class has raised the

highest amount will be treated to a surprise.
