Thursday, 19th November 2020 RE: Consultation on admission arrangements for 2022-2023 Dear parent/carer, I am writing to notify you of the upcoming consultation on the Medina College admissions policy. The consultation period will run from Thursday 19th November 2020 until Wednesday 13th January 2021; during this time, parents are invited to express their views and any concerns about the proposed change to the admission arrangements at Medina College. In accordance with the DfE’s 2014 statutory ‘School Admissions Code’ guidance, as a school we must consult on our admission arrangements when changes are proposed, and at least once every seven years. To this end, the following amendments to our admission arrangements have been proposed: • To reduce the Published Admission Number (PAN) at Medina College from 210 to 180 places in Year 7 with effect from September 2022. This means that the number of places available for children in Year 7 in 2022 and all subsequent Year 7 cohorts will be 180. • For children who already have a place at the school in other year groups there will be no proposed change. This is the only proposed change to the admission criteria, all other criteria, including oversubscription, will remain the same. This is being proposed as the Isle of Wight is in an area of surplus secondary places and census information shows that this surplus of places will continue in the future. Reducing the PAN at Medina College will assist the Governing Board in providing stability in its long-term planning and allow Medina College to continue to secure high quality educational outcomes for the students currently on roll, while continuing to provide an appropriate number of places for future pupil numbers in line with demand. A full version of the proposed changes to the admission arrangements, as well as the rationale behind them, is available to view on the Medina College website or in hard copy from the school office. In accordance with statutory DfE guidance, the consultation will run for at least six weeks and, as an interested party at Medina College, we are keen to hear your views on the proposed changes; therefore, we invite you to participate in the consultation if you have any concerns regarding the matter. All responses to the consultation should be made in writing and submitted before 12 noon on Wednesday, 13th January 2021 to the Clerk to Governors [email protected] or by post to Emma Shambrook, Medina College, Fairlee Road, Newport, Isle of Wight, PO30 2DX. Please note that written responses should outline your personal details, including your name, address and relationship to Governing Board of Carisbrooke and Medina College. At the end of the consultation period, the Governing Board will meet to consider responses and submit a final policy for approval. For further information regarding the consultation process, please refer to our proposal document, copies of which can be located on the Medina College website or in hard copy from the school office. If you wish to further discuss this matter, or anything mentioned in this letter, please contact Emma Shambrook. Yours sincerely, Matthew Parr-Burman Executive Headteacher
