I don’t think I’ve stopped smiling as I have been part of many of the events that have taken place this week. A wonderful KS2 Hills Walk on Monday and a field trip for KS1; four amazing Sports Days; Y4 cricket finals in Bromsgrove; a great FAME violin and steel pan concert in Year 5 and a superb ensemble concert - it’s been a busy week! KS2 Hills Walk On Monday 1 st July we finally managed to walk up the beautiful Malvern Hills as the last two years we have had to cancel this event due to the hot weather. The conditions were perfect for walking cloudy but warm on the way up, sunny and clear on the top of the Beacon and lovely and warm on the way back down. It was lovely to see and hear all the children chatting to their friends as they walked the 7-mile route! Many children were counting their steps calculating over 20,000 on the day. On the top, at the Beacon, it was a wonderful sight, not just the view, but all of Key Stage 2 sat in groups eating their lunch. We can’t wait to go again next year! A beautiful view from the Beacon Sudeley castle captains with the cup! KS1 Field Walk Also on Monday, K.S 1 enjoyed a beautiful walk around the fields of Malvern. The children spotted animals, identified plants and physical geographical landmarks of Malvern. The weather was perfect and everyone completed the walk with a smile on their face! Toby - I enjoyed our walk because we got to identify lots of plants and animals. Mollie - I saw lots of beautiful butterflies! Chloe - It was great going off road in my wheel chair. Thank you Mrs M! Aimee - It as great walking through the magic hedge and over the troll bridge. Hugo - I foud lots of different grasses in the fields. John - The view of the Malverns was spectacular! Mylo - The grass was so long in places and swayed in the breeze. Olivia - It was lovely to walk with all of my friends. Sienna - We saw lots of things like trains, a plane, a helicopter, butterflies and a frog! Sports Days All the children, across both schools, have enjoyed their sports day this week. Thank you to all the parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts and uncles for cheering the children on as they each took part in their races. From the determined faces of the Year 6 children to the smiles and laughter of our pre-school children, everyone had lots of fun- including the teachers- who took part. With Sudeley winning the cup in KS2 and Warwick in Reception and KS1, we all had a fantastic time. Our first ever Sports Day was a huge success! The children raced with eggs, spoons, over hurdles, under hoops and balanced quoits on their heads. Thanks to our supportive parents for coming along too. Mrs Price

Cricket Finals Ten of our Year 4 children missed out on sports day as they were taking part in the Worcestershire Schools Cricket Finals, which they had qualified for. The children demonstrated excellent bowling, batting and fielding skills, taking wickets and scoring fours and sixes. Their sportsmanship was incredible to watch so they were deserving of a medal. They finished in second place receiving a silver medal. Congratulations to the team, you should be very proud of yourselves.

Year 5 Fame Concert Each week, on a Wednesday afternoon, all our Year 5 children play a musical instrument either in our ensemble, our steel pan group with Mr Hughes or with our FAME violin teacher Mrs Humphries. Throughout the year, they have developed the skills to play these instruments and this was demonstrated in their violin and steel pan concert to parents on Wednesday. The children played superbly and I hope many of them continue to play an instrument and enjoy music.

Ensemble Concert On Wednesday evening, I had the pleasure of attending the ensemble concert which was truly wonderful. Children from Year 4 to Year 6 are part of the group who practise every Wednesday afternoon with their conductor, Mrs Marsh. The children played pieces altogether from a Tango to a Boogie Beat all focused and enjoying themselves. Solos and duets were also performed which were amazing. The nerves didn’t show at all even though for some it was the first time that they had performed to an audience. What a professional and talented group of young musicians!

Photography at School Events

At Somers Park, we do allow you to take photographs at these events as we want you to be able to capture these memories of your children but we do ask you not to post these pictures on social media if they contain images of any other children. This week, we were informed that images were posted with other children in the background, which we have asked to be taken down, so this is a reminder not to post these pictures on social media as we may have to reconsider our policy of taking photographs at school events if this continues to occur.

Annual Reports Today, you will have received your child’s Annual School Report. These are very similar to last year’s reports with the teacher’s comments on the front page but you will find that teachers, in each year group, have written an overview of the curriculum that your child has covered throughout the year. We hope you find the information from the whole report a useful insight into your child’s learning and progress this year. Also enclosed is a parental feedback form. Please fill these in or just sign and return to say you have received the report. We do read all your comments. Key Stage 2 SATS results do not come out until next week so these will follow separately.

Staffing Update I am pleased to inform you that we have appointed three new teachers starting with us in September. Miss Sophie Shaw and Miss Chloe Downing join our Somers Park teaching team after training with us last year and Miss Ellen Rowney also joins us. Mrs Claire Del Monte will become a full-time class teacher next year having taught across the school over the past two years. Also, I am pleased to confirm that Mrs Debbie Russell will become Phase Leader for Year 3 and Year 4 also starting in September. In our Nursery, Miss Stephanie Warry will be leaving to go on Maternity Leave early next term so we wish her all the best and we can’t wait to hear the news!

Year 4 Café Days Last week, both Year 4 classes held their café days which were book inspired with marmalade cake, gingerbread men and jam tarts. The children were waiters, servers, entertainers, cashiers and greeters on the day and there was an amazing atmosphere. Together they raised an incredible total of £205.20 which will be going to Winston's Wish charity, in memory of Steve Roe. https://www.winstonswish.org/ A big thank you to everybody who was able to be there!

Year 4 Café Day Enjoy the sunshine this weekend. I’m off to pack my bags ready for the Year 6 residential next week to Red Ridge! Have a lovely weekend.

Best wishes
