Kimball Farm in Westford, MA Saturday, May 1 2010
M ore than thirty alumnae, old campers, new campers, babies, corporation members, board members,
2010 staff members, and FdL family members enjoyed a beautiful day at Kimball Farm. With
lovely 80 degree weather, everyone had a wonderful afternoon of bumper boats, petting zoo,
putt-putt golf, and the arcade. With the Fleur de Lis flag waving under the shade of the tent, the FdL
participants enjoyed a delicious lunch and the extra-generous-sized ice cream. Everyone agreed that this needs
to be an annual event. What a great way to kick off the 2010 season!

Is there a special 6-11 year-old girl in your life with whom you would like
to share the experience of camp? Fleur de Lis welcomes aunts, mothers,
Godmothers, grandmothers, and mentors to come to camp with a camper.
Bigs & Littles will live
in cabins or platform
tents and take part in
family-style meals.
Enjoy a relaxing rock
on a porch, learn to
shoot an arrow, or
participate in an
activity on the water.
Both instructional and
recreational times will
be available.
Enjoy a weekend
filled with activity
choices for adults
and children:
Archery, campfires,
canoeing, crafts,
dancing, kayaking,
pottery, riflery,
singing, swimming,
tennis, and lots of
fun!
Introduce your camper to an overnight camp experience through this
special weekend. You do not have to be a current parent nor an alumna
to participate. Encourage other Big & Littles to attend! To obtain a regis-
tration form, visit the camp website at www.fleurdeliscamp.org.

Lauren Carney, FdL parent and Board member, has volunteered to compile pictures of FdL to
place in a bound book that can be used for a variety of ways. While she has photos of camp from
recent years, she would really like some from earlier decades that will depict how camp has
changed and maybe how it hasn't - smiling faces of the girls that love camp.
If you have some wonderful photos to share, please email them to Lauren at
[email protected] . You may call her at 603-525-3818 or send an email if you have any
questions. Thanks in advance for your help!
Are you a parent of a current camper? Read about the PAC!
T he Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) is a newly formed committee that will work
with the Board and Corporation to share thoughts and ideas regarding camp programs,
recruitment, and development. It does not matter if you are long distance or local, since
much of this work will be done through conference calls and emails. This is a wonderful
|opportunity to play an important role in ushering in the next 80 years of Fleur de Lis. If you
are interested in learning more about this committee, please contact Lauren Carney at
[email protected] or Chris Creelman at [email protected].
L ast fall, the Farmhouse roof was replaced
and the chimneys received some much
needed care. In the spring of 2009, two
sides of the Farmhouse were scraped and
repainted. This spring, Richard trimmed the
forsythia, lilac bushes, and the large pine tree
behind the house. Currently the front of the
house and the “Coke Shed” side of the house
have been scraped and are awaiting their new
coat of paint. When you drive up to 120
Howeville Road this summer, be sure to check
out our beloved Farmhouse in all its glory.

The following is the obituary of Henry Whipple, who loved camp so much
and has been an integral part of Fleur de Lis since 1929.
Henry William Whipple Sr., 93, of Howeville Road in Fitzwilliam died Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at
his home, surrounded by his family after a period of failing health.
Mr. Whipple was born in Fitzwilliam on April 14, 1916, son of the late Henry S. and Minnie (Thompson) Whipple. He
attended local schools and lived in the same house he was born in throughout his entire life.
In his earlier years, Mr. Whipple drove a school bus and raised turkeys for Thanksgiving and Christmas. He drove a
truck into Boston for Upland Farms Apple Orchards in Peterborough and was also a custodian for Franklin Pierce
College. But the role for which he is most well known was his work at the Fleur de Lis girls’ camp, where he was the
camp caretaker from 1929 through 2010. He never retired.
Mr. Whipple enjoyed deer hunting throughout northern NH and Canada. He also hunted partridges and rabbit and loved
his hound dogs, which he always raised a few of at a time. He also had riding horses that he would rent to the camp as
well as use privately.
Mr. Whipple loved the warm sunshine, and he spent most of his winters in Florida in his later years. He always enjoyed
talking with family and friends about the way things used to be and the prices of things in the old days. One of his
favorite stories he often shared was about the price he paid for a car and the price of a Model A Ford.
He was preceded in death by three grandsons and one granddaughter.
Mr. Whipple is survived by the love of his life, Ardis Larochelle of Fitzwilliam, with whom he spent the last 45 years;
his daughter Beverly ‘Dolly’ and her husband William Mroz of Strafford, Maine; three sons, Henry W. Whipple, Jr. and
his wife Elaine, Frank D. Whipple and his wife Draxiene, and Richard T. Whipple and his wife Diana, all of Fitzwil-
liam; nine grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; four step-grandchildren and one
niece.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either Hospice at HCS, PO Box 496, Peterborough NH 03458,
or to Camp Fleur de Lis, 120 Howeville Road, Fitzwilliam, NH 03447
A memorial service was held at Fleur de Lis Camp on May 23 to celebrate Henry’s life.
Condolences may be sent to the family members at the addresses below.

Do you have a daughter who is camp age or is approaching camp age? Fleur de Lis encourages you to share camp with the next generation. Please call anytime during the summer to schedule a day visit to show your daughter the magic of Fleur de Lis. Visiting activities, enjoying a meal in the Dining Hall, and sharing your stories with her as you walk through camp as part of a guided tour is a wonderful way to spend a summer day. You can also spend more time with her by attending Big & Little weekend (see page 2 for more Big & Little information)! To arrange a visit, please contact Lexy Heately at (603) 585-7751 or email [email protected].

Here's the news from Atlanta. In January, I trekked
out to Colorado for a little FDL ski trip. I had a
glorious ski weekend at Copper Mountain with
Hilary Robinson, Mallory Robinson, and Sarah
Heller. We also met up with Megan McCarthy
back down in Denver.
In April, I had a wonderful Vegas bachelorette
weekend— Hilary Robinson, Mallory Robinson,
and Lindsey Varney joined in that event.
The big news...I'm getting married on June 12th in
Charleston, SC to a wonderful Southern man,
Hayes Moody. We've been dating almost 7 years
and have been engaged since February 2009, so
this is certainly a long anticipated event! Two
fellow FdLers are in my wedding party, Joanna
Stephens and Amy (Bowen) Rebbechi. Other
FdLers planning to attend are JK (Dow) Wolfe,
Lisa McNamara, CJ Navins, Tory Dunbar, Mal-
lory Robinson, Hilary Robinson, and Lindsey
Varney.

I can't believe my little girl will be a Jr. this
summer. I wish I could go with her!

To alumnae, staff, CTs, and campers:
A huge thank you and a big hug to all of you who
have been so supportive with your jokes, cards,
notes, calls and visits over these past few
somewhat difficult months. I would love to thank
you each personally, but would still be writing
notes until August campfire! You cannot begin to
imagine how you have lifted my spirits and made
me realize that our term "camp family," which we
sometimes use so loosely, is real. You are truly my
extended family.
Love from "Lady Nurse"
Madeleine Jenkins Ouellette I was at Fleur de Lis from 1968-1974 and loved
every minute of it. Have been back for all the
reunions. My daughter Olivia is heading back to
FDL this summer for her second year, she can't
wait. I love it, bacause I get to go up, and any
excuse to go up to FDL is a good one!!
Laurie Switzer
Almost a year since my husband Robert and I
bought our first house here in Leucadia, CA (San
Diego). One day, not long ago I was at our local
beach and saw a guy with a Bill Larry shirt on! I
enjoyed singing "Lawrence we stand..." to him.
Daughter Phoebe will be 2 in October, she is the
adventurer we'd hoped for. I am... still working at
the USS Midway Museum as Director of
Volunteer Programs. Busy, Busy. Missing the NE
like mad.
Heather Crutchley
Just handed in my college thesis, graduate in
mid-June and start my year long teacher training
with Lady Clare Johnson too in Sept! Will miss
camp terribly this year! :(
Laurie Harding Polese
My daughter, Susie, is returning to FDL for her
4th summer. She is excited to get back to camp.
Her brother, Josh, will be attending WLC for the
first time this summer. The traditions continue! I
am looking forward to a quiet house for a few
weeks this summer and hope to try out my golf
skills. All my best to everyone at FDL!

I am starting a year long trip in September that will
be taking me (fingers crossed) to Aus, NZ, Fiji,
Hawaii, LA and Boston. Hopefully living in Aus
for 10 months then traveling around from there. xx
Kaitlyn (Simmonds) Drew (from 1992 to 1999)
I married my college sweetheart in October of
2009, two weeks after I graduated from Massage
Therapy school. I'm now a practicing Massage
Therapist on the North Shore of MA. I am
planning on bringing my six year old sister to the
Big/ Little weekend in August, and I absolutely
can't wait to return to Fitzwilliam! Mickey Chehames Lutz
I was a camper, CT, and counselor from 1958-
1970! Seems like a life-time ago, but I can still
hear kids on the dock and see the mountain! I live
in Virginia and have been fortunate to have 2 great
daughters—Mary & Annie. The oldest lives in
Chicago and was just married and the youngest has
a wedding in June! I am terrible at keeping in
contact, but all the friendships I made at FDL are
nearest in my heart and I smile when I read about
news of those I knew or had a hand in getting them
to FdL. I am determined to get to a reunion. Would
love to hear from anyone who remembers me! It is
so good to see all the girls who have thrived at
FdL.
Pam Holbrook Fricke Busy with 2 teens, Emma (16) and Hannah (14).
I'm teaching middle school Spanish - this is my
21st year. I'm heading back to Fitzwilliam for the
2nd session this summer as program director - my
7th year back after a 20 year hiatus. It's been great
seeing all the faces of people I remember now
dropping off their daughters at camp! Hannah will
be attending as a first year Senior, and Emma will
be a CT.
Kalen F Wolfe (JK Dow)
and her husband, Justin, welcomed a baby girl into
the world. Kadence Adelin Wolfe was born March
19, 2010 at 11:08 am, weighing 5 lbs 2 oz and 17
inches. Watch out Cabin A!!!!!!!!!
Joanna Jeffery
Getting married May 22!
Amy Bates
I just returned from a study abroad trip to the Gold
Coast in Australia! I spent my last semester of
undergrad traveling to Sydney, Cairns, the Great
Barrier Reef (where I did in fact find Nemo!) and
Melbourne where I visited Lady Emma Gray! It is
so wonderful that camp brings together people
from all over the world! I had adventures surfing
(I was a pro thanks to all those years on the red
boards on Laurel Lake), and driving a camper van
around New Zealand. Somehow, I managed to get
some studying done and I will be graduating from
Northeastern University this May.
I will be returning to camp this summer to be on
the 2010 staff and I couldn't be more ex-
cited! Even though I have traveled and seen some
wonderful places, Fitzwilliam is still my favorite
place of all time :)
