Dear Parents and Guardians
Thank you to the many parents who attended the Palm
Sunday and Last Supper liturgy on Monday presented by the
year three and four students and the Stations of the Cross
liturgy today which was very reverently enacted by our years
five and six students. Both liturgies were carefully prepared
to help all of us focus on the importance and meaning of the
Holy week ceremonies next week. It is hard to believe that
Lent is rapidly reaching its conclusion. The very special
Feast of the Death and Resurrection of Jesus is upon us. It is
that time when we celebrate the salvation of mankind by
Jesus Christ, the Son of God. It is fair to say that the Feast of
Christmas is given much more public and commercial
acclaim, but as Christians, we know that the Easter
celebration is the culmination of the work of Jesus the man
when He died on the Cross, and of the new life for us all in
His Resurrection. I encourage all parents to attend the
Easter ceremonies in the Parish, commencing on Thursday
night with the celebration of the Last Supper at 7 pm. We
have also included in this newsletter the times for all of the
St Jude’s Parish Easter ceremonies – please note these on
your calendar.
This term has been a very busy one full of opportunities for
our students to learn and progress. I hope that all parents
have taken the time to meet with class teachers to be fully
informed of student progress this term and special
programmes that may be in place to support their learning.
Student workbooks have been sent home so that you may see
the products of learning activities and I strongly encourage
you to talk with your children about what you see, to praise
and encourage them as well as help them set goals for future
learning.
The disco last Friday was fantastic fun for students and I
thank sincerely the Friends of St Jude group for their hard
work to make this a success. The Easter raffles and
competitions have been drawn and awarded this week and
again I thank the FOSJ for all of their hard work in
organising these community-building and fun activities for
our school! I’m sure everyone is ready for a rest during the
school holidays!
The second term commences for students on Monday 28th
April, with students returning in their winter uniform. My
sincere thanks to all families for supporting our school
during this first term and, as we prepare to celebrate this
special time in the Church’s calendar, I trust that the peace
and joy of the Risen Lord will be with you all during Easter
and the holidays.
God bless
Mrs Lyn Stone
Principal

Dear Jesus, Lord and Redeemer,
We know that when you entered the city of Jerusalem for the last time,
you were hailed as a king.
Later the people turned against you and forgot all that you had taught them.
We remember all that you did for us.
May we never turn away from you. We give praise and glory to your name, as the Redeemer of the world. Amen.

FROM THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS
Have you noticed the new footpaths leading from St Jude’s school to Prendiville Avenue?
A Big THANK YOU to John and Carey O’Brien (Jameson Yr 3 and Matthew PP) for liaising with the City of Gosnells in the provision of this very welcome addition to Barnston Way, ensuring safety for our students and their families.
YEAR 1
LEARNING AT ST JUDE’S
This year the Dyslexia-SPELD foundation is launching a new initiative to provide support and
information to the parents of children with learning difficulties and disabilities.
The foundation will be running a series of FREE morning teas on a range of topics each with a key
guest speaker and the opportunity for questions and discussion. Telephone (08) 9217 2500. Email
[email protected] Address: 10 Broome Street. SOUTH PERTH.
This sounds like a wonderful opportunity for parents to gain a greater insight into their child’s
learning development and needs. Every little bit that helps your child to learn is worth it.

YEAR 3
YEAR 5
From the Classroom
We can’t believe that we are at the end
of Term 1 already.
We have learnt how to write persuasive
and narrative texts. We have explored
place value, addition, length and location
in maths. We have looked at the states
and territories of Australia and have
begun to create our own ebook on the
ipad. We have begun our preparation for
Reconciliation next term.
We hope that everyone has a very safe
and happy Easter.
We look forward to seeing you all at our
Mother’s Day Mass early next term.
We had lots of fun in Year
One on Tuesday. Our buddies
from Year Five came and
helped us to do some cooking.
We made chocolate slice. It
was lots of fun and the
mixture was all sticky and
gooey! The slice was really
yummy to eat. We really like
doing different activities
with our buddies! We can’t
wait to see what fun things
we will do next term.
So many caring people are in the
year 5 class. In year 5 we have
working hard to live more of our
Mercy values of Justice,
Respect, Compassion, Excellence
and Hospitality. Following these
values helps prepare the
students to become great
student leaders in the future.
They have shown kindness,
respect, concern and care of
others. Congratulations to
Daniel, Harrison, Ashanti, Chloe,
Sean, Zane and Charles who have
all received care bear awards
this term. They demonstrated
that they can live by the Mercy
Values.

ENRICHMENT PROGRAM
Four children in each class of Year 4,5 and 6
have been selected to attend the Enrichment
class on Wednesday afternoon for Semester
One.
These children were selected based on class
test results, the use of checklists and through
consultation with Mrs Stone and the class
teacher.
The program will focus on various learning area
tasks and aims to develop critical and creative
thinking.
Children in the Enrichment class will also be
given the opportunity to participate in
external competitions and tests.
Participation in this class depends on a
continued high standard of performance and a
positive attitude to learning.

St Jude’s 3 Year Old Kindergarten Enrolments are being taken for children for Pre-Kindy. Pre-Kindy is an education programme for children who have turned three years of age, or are turning three years of age in 2014. Birth certificate is required as proof of age. We offer one half-day session per week on Wednesday mornings from 9.00 am to 11.30am with a possibility of moving to 2 sessions on the same day. For further information please contact the office.
We celebrated Easter last Thursday with a wonderful
feast. Everyone enjoyed the mouth-watering selection of
food, thanks to the generous efforts of our mums.
We also went on an egg hunt and were treated to lovely
surprises hidden within the eggs that we found. We read a
story about the colours of a rainbow and sang a song about
it. We also learnt that those colours can be found on many
other objects around us.
All in all, we had a great time! We now look forward to an
exciting start in Term 2. So please come along to play,
learn and grow with us. Have a wonderful Easter break.
