NEWSLETTER June 2020 Phone: 08 9923 4200 Email: [email protected] www.wandinaprimaryschool.wa.edu.au Principal: Di Miller Deputy Principals: Sue Ashworth and Michael Ostazsewskyj Important Dates Monday 1st June Public Holiday (No School) Friday 5th June World Environment Day 12th June Room 10 Virtual Assembly Semester 1 Reports 2020 I want to thank you again for your support throughout what has been a very unusual school semester. The COVID-19 pandemic is affecting our entire community and has presented us with extraordinary challenges in managing schooling during the first half of 2020. I am pleased that together, we have been able to make the best of this situation and ensure your childs safety and continuity of learning. With the regular attendance of many students being lower over this time, the breadth and depth of the curriculum covered throughout Semester 1 may have been reduced. For this reason, schools are not required to include A to E grades on this year s Semester 1 student reports. Your childs attendance may not be reported and written comments may provide less information on their progress than usual. Schooling is once again returning to normal and our students are engaging in the regular curriculum, in their usual classroom environment. Those approved to learn from home are also being supported. Semester 2 reports will reflect this and therefore provide the usual, more detailed information on your childs progress and achievement. Reports for this semester will also be sent home electronically, with most schools moving towards this approach in the future. Please contact the office if this is a difficulty for your family. Thank you for your continued support and encouragement as we work together to provide the best learning opportunities for our students. As we progress, I will keep you updated with any new information. Welcome’s and Farewell’s We have welcomed several new staff this term: Khadijah Zain Azman, Emma Clark, Ashley Haynes, Rob Ingram, Melanie James, Annette Kuhlmann, and Max Lawson. We have recently farewelled two of our Education Assistants, Sarah Pollard and Marnie Cavassi. We wish them the very best for the future. We have a mainstream Education Assistant position currently advertised on the Jobs WA website. 2021 Kindergarten Enrolments Enrolments for Kindergarten 2021 are open. Children born between 1 July 2016 and 30 June 2017 are eligible for enrolment. Places are limited, with priority given to applications received before the 26th July to children that reside in our local intake area. Semester 1 Reports 2020 I want to thank you again for your support throughout what has been a very unusual school

semester. The COVID-19 pandemic is affecting our entire community and has presented us

with extraordinary challenges in managing schooling during the first half of 2020. I am

pleased that together, we have been able to make the best of this situation and ensure your

child’s safety and continuity of learning.

With the regular attendance of many students being lower over this time, the breadth and

depth of the curriculum covered throughout Semester 1 may have been reduced. For this

reason, schools are not required to include A to E grades on this year’s Semester 1 student

reports. Your child’s attendance may not be reported and written comments may provide less

information on their progress than usual.

Schooling is once again returning to normal and our students are engaging in the regular

curriculum, in their usual classroom environment. Those approved to learn from home are

also being supported. Semester 2 reports will reflect this and therefore provide the usual,

more detailed information on your child’s progress and achievement.

Reports for this semester will also be sent home electronically, with most schools moving

towards this approach in the future. Please contact the office if this is a difficulty for your

family.

Thank you for your continued support and encouragement as we work together to provide the

best learning opportunities for our students. As we progress, I will keep you updated with any

new information.

Welcome’s and Farewell’s We have welcomed several new staff this term: Khadijah Zain Azman, Emma Clark, Ashley

Haynes, Rob Ingram, Melanie James, Annette Kuhlmann, and Max Lawson.

We have recently farewelled two of our Education Assistants, Sarah Pollard and Marnie

Cavassi. We wish them the very best for the future.

We have a mainstream Education Assistant position currently advertised on the Jobs WA

website.

2021 Kindergarten Enrolments Enrolments for Kindergarten 2021 are open. Children born between 1 July 2016 and 30 June

This is a time for all Australians to

learn about our shared histories,

cultures, and achievements. We

learn about how each one us of

can contribute to achieving

reconciliation in Australia. On this

journey, Australians are “ALL IN

THIS TOGETHER”. Every one of us

has a role to play when it comes to reconciliation. In playing

our part we collectively build relationships and communities

that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples,

histories and cultures.

Every three years, schools are required to go through a school review where they self assess what they are doing and what is working in relation to 6 areas. These areas are: Quality Teaching, Leadership across and within the school, Relationships and Partnerships, Use of Resources, Learning Environment and Student Achievement.

Our Review was scheduled to occur this term but due to COVID-19, it has now been pushed back to Term 4 later this year. A Principal from the Public School Review team as well as a Principal from a school similar to our school, will visit us for the day, discuss our self assessment and meet with staff, the school board, students and parents.

More information to follow regarding our review in the future.
