MESSAGE FROM THE HEADTEACHER

Hello, hope you all have had a fantastic week! As a school new to the INSPIRE Trust of 8 other schools we have been working collaboratively to ensure that your child gets the best education that they deserve . All 9 schools are driven by the 5 values stated below.

Collaboration matters because this creates shared agency amongst staff, pupils and our wider communities. We are stronger together and can achieve more through working in partnership.

Excellence in everything is a core value because we believe learning is an art form, measured best through the journey and the quality of the outcome. Excellence is inclusive because it creates a shared expectation in everyone to achieve.

Community first connects our mission to transform lives with our vision to ensure pupils have the skills, qualities and attitudes to achieve the very best. Leadership behaviours for everyone are rooted in serving communities, especially those who need us most.

Equity for everyone exists to ensure we are fair, enact ethical leadership and strive to remove barriers to learning wherever they exist.

Continuous growth applies to us as leaders of learning as much as children discovering the joy of learning. We all have the capacity to grow new skills, learn knowledge and gain new experiences. We grow best in a climate of trust, reciprocity and connectedness.

E SAFETY We work hard to teach each child how to stay safe online. Interestingly, however when we spoke to a selection of children about their Esafety habits, MANY of them confessed to knowing their parent's smart phone passcode, enabling them to use the phone without the parent knowing. If you have set up parental locks on the family tablet or computer, your child could be accessing other material on your phone, which you are unaware of. Please check that this is not the case.

CHARACTER SKILLS You may have heard your child talking about character skills and wondered what they were. We have 5 character skills that refers to values needed to support learning and interactions with others

These are displayed and referred to constantly by the class teachers and during assemblies . Perhaps you can use these at home too.

PACKED LUNCH Please make sure that your child has a healthy packed lunch each day if they are not eating school dinners. This should consist of fruit or veg, a

sandwich/ source of carbohydrates and a healthy snack . As we are a healthy school no chocolate, fizzy drinks or nuts. We have children that have nuts allergies and this could be dangerous.

GLOBAL CURRICULUM

Even very young children are trying to make sense of a world marked by division, conflict, environmental change and extreme inequality and poverty. Our curriculum is designed to enable children to make deep connections between learning and understanding the world that they live in, leading to children connecting taught knowledge and skills with agency and purpose.

We see our curriculum as a vehicle for connecting with the bigger cause. This means we enable children to form meaningful relationships with their learning, see patterns and apply skills into a context where learning can make a difference. Children see that their learning has human significance.

This is through seven global learning themes. These underpin our curriculum and each theme is broken down into knowledge and understanding, skills and attitudes.

Social justice and equity

Identity and diversity

Globalisation and interdependence

Sustainable

development

Peace and conflict

Human rights

Power and

PARENTMAIL Have you downloaded Parentmail? Please don’t delay and do it now. You are missing out on important messages and letters from school.

THE IMPORTANCE OF READING It is important that you read with your child every day for at least 10 minutes . This can be with a parent or older sibling. Research has shown that if you read with your child every day this helps to significantly improve their reading skills of decoding. Due to the current situation all books are placed into quarantine when they are returned to school before they are issued to another child. Please write an entry every day in your child’s Reading Record stating the date, book title, comment and signature.

ATTENDANCE AND PUNCTUALITY Woodside Primary School promotes positive attendance and punctuality. The DFE have been very clear that it is vital that children and young people return to school, for their educational progress, for their wellbeing, and for their wider development. School attendance was mandatory from the beginning of the new academic year. This means that it is your legal duty as a parent to send your child to school regularly. Your local council can give each parent a fine of £60, which rises to £120 each if you do not pay within 21 days.

My version of 'The Doors' by Reya, 2 Willow Go and open the door. Maybe there's a slide, or a pink flower, Or maybe there's a mail box singing, Or a princess dancing to a beat. Go and open the door, Maybe my mum has baked a cake for me, Or my cousin is having a sleepover Or maybe a butterfly flying around. Go an open the door, If there's my teacher teaching everyone in my class, I will love it. Go and open the door, Even if there's only chairs, Even if there's only dining tables, Even if everyone changes. Go and open the door,

UNICEF OUTRIGHT CAMPAIGN Woodside is a Unicef Rights Respecting school and this year we have signed up to take part in the Unicef Outright campaign. This year’s campaign is all about climate change. Throughout the

year, children taking part will:

Learn about climate change and its impact

Learn how climate change and its impact on children’s rights

Use their voices to call on decision-makers to take actions on climate change that prioritise children’s rights

We will be talking more about this in school over the coming weeks and would like the children to think about how they can raise awareness about climate change and what we can do to help.
