TEACHERS CORNERI am Sidra Hameed, working as Lecture of Economics at Beaconhouse Concordia Colleges, Allama Iqbal Town Girls Campus, Lahore. I have been awarded Silver Medal in M.Sc. Economics bestowed by the Department of Economics, University of the Punjab, which I perceive success as a journey and not a destination. I became a part of Concordia Colleges in 2014, vowed to myself that with this profession I would take Economics to a new level and Concordia Colleges provided me a platform. I made myself adaptive with the new concept of “Blended Learning” which helped me to enhance my teaching abilities. I have practically implemented the concept of Blended learning in my classroom. My effective teaching methodology aspects consist of; subject mastery, effective communication, lesson preparation and presentation which helped me to give 100 percent result. I have inculcated the concepts of economics by giving them examples from everyday life, consequently it helped my students to learn Economics for themselves because it comprises of daily life facts. The reason why I have been able to give my hundred percent efforts is because of the support of my respected Principal and Vice Principal which helped me to unfold my path of success. My goal is to teach my students to accomplish their goals.Sidra Hameed

As I pen down to write my ‘success story as s Teacher’ I want to dwell on two aspects ‘success’ and ‘teacher’. For me success is a journey, not a destination. This journey has been going on since I joined Concordia College and is still going without wanting to know its destination. My respectable Principal and Vice principal gave me the opportunity to take the stage in my stride and voice my opinion fearlessly to the world in front of me. As a teacher, I found that the more I gave, the more I get. This wasn’t in terms of material gains which my job as a teacher could offer me but spiritual happiness. This I got when I interacted with my students. Their thirst for knowledge, their enthusiastic response, and their unconditional love left me in state of pleasure. My goal as a teacher is to translate response into result. Which I achieved last year by showing 100% results and will be continuing in future INSHALLAH. As an Exam Cell Committee Incharge, I performed all my tasks actively either it’s to conduct College exams or to manage International contests for students such as International kangaroo linguistics Contest, International kangaroo Mathematics contest and International Bebras Informatics Contest. With the coordination of my beloved Principal and Vice Principal, I’m also working as Event management Incharge in my campus. I supervised all college events successfully. I’m thankful to my family, to all my Heads and College Staff for their love, support and cooperation. And YES! I’m a Proud and Successful Concordian.

Socio Cultural Activities

A famous quote of our national poet Allama Muhammad Iqbal is that “it is the female who is the reason of all the colours in the world.” Girls’ campuses at Concordia colleges arranged colourful activities throughout the year to keep the students motivated and lively. Functions under the following captions were held at Girls campuses, “Bake Sale Day”, “Pink Day” (campaign against Breast Cancer), “Science Fair”, “New session Shower”. In order to ensure good academic results, institutions should keep all channels of communication and coordination open for its all stake holders. With this aim in mind, Concordia colleges arrange Parent Teacher Meetings after each Monthly Tests and share the result of students with their Parents. These meetings have proved to be very useful because they keep parents updated about their child’s progress on regular basis. In the light of mutual feedback the parents get a chance to make the required efforts to help their child in gaining best results in BISE examinations.

Taking parents on Board (PTM)

The commandments of Holy Quran and sayings of Holy Prophet (PBUH) on acquiring knowledge lead to the emergence and shaping of knowledge oriented Muslim civilization. The text of Quran is replete with verses inviting man use his intellect, to ponder to think and to know because the goal of human life is to discover the truth. Prophet (PBUH) declared,” Men of knowledge are the inheritors of the Prophets.” The learning for a Muslim was

therefore an act of worship. “An hour of learning”, went the saying “is worth more than a year of prayer”. At another place it was said,” the ink of the scholar is being holier than the blood of the martyr”. October 05, is celebrated as International Teacher’s Day every Year. Students of Concordia Colleges also celebrate this day with zeal and zest. Paying tribute to teachers awakens the urge of knowledge among themselves.

OUR INITIATESIt is a recognized fact that the biggest role in an academic institution is played by its teachers and trainers. Enhancing and updating teachers’ capabilities and knowledge is the best method of improving the standards of education in any academic institution. In order to improve classroom delivery/ practice and getting the best of communicators in every college, we need to attract the committed and dedicated individuals into teaching. We also need to give them the best possible resources and strong support to educate students in the classroom. Keeping in mind these aims and objectives Concordia Colleges administration arranges Teacher Training Programs every year. Like the previous years, in July, 2016 Concordia Colleges arranged BL certification to train its teachers on newly-introduced Blended Learning System. A renowned IT expert and international educationist, Dr. Naveed Malik (Rector Virtual University) and Dr. Yasira Waqar (an IT Expert) a well-known Teacher Trainer conducted these training sessions.

LMS training sessions are also conducted on regular basis in order to train the newly-inducted teachers and refreshing and updating the faculty where it is needed. Like the previous years, In September, 2016 these training sessions were arranged at Head Office for the teachers. These training sessions were arranged aiming to empower Computer Science teachers at each campus so that they could guide students as well as other colleagues. Computer Science Teachers teach Computer Science subject and also work as LMS coordinators at their respective campuses. They possess technical know-how to deal with all basic issues for the smooth functioning of LMS. They are equipped to deal with problems arise at the campus e.g. change of password, data entry, getting basic account information of the campus users etc.

Learning Management System training

Concordia Colleges is unique in the sense that it promotes a revolutionary concept of learning. For the First time in Pakistan it has offered Blended Learning System where by hundred percent course of intermediate has been captured in the form of video lessons. Our colleges provide two teachers in the sense that one teacher is teaching physically in the class and the other teacher is shown on LED’s through lesson videos. We provide Learning Management System to augment class lecture and video lesson. Concordia Colleges therefore, claim to be the pioneer in utilizing a balanced mix of Trainers Tools and Technology. Our students use PC tablets 24/7 to have an access to past papers, notes, along with lesson videos. They may see their attendance, fee and result details through the LMS. LMS also provides students an opportunity to stay updated by sharing announcements of important dates i.e. date sheets, results etc.

Trend setters in Education

In the golden age of Islam a great deal of importance was attached with establishing good libraries. Medieval Islamic libraries contained hundreds of thousands or even millions of books, notably in libraries of Baghdad, Cairo and Cordoba. Even the individual/ personal libraries consisted of thousands of books and hundreds of manuscripts. The management has given huge amounts for setting up libraries at Concordia Colleges. Now, at each Concordia College a state-of-the-art Library has been established for students and teachers to utilize. Foreign published books by prestigious printing houses like Thompson, McGraw-Hill and other good publishers have been purchased by the library committee. Similarly high quality book shelves have also been provided. Generally four categories of books have been purchased; text books, recommended books, subject books and reference books.

Campus Life Most important message of Muslim civilization is that “the one who saves one life actually saves the whole humanity”. Students of Concordia colleges have been trained to be responsible adults who can take charge of their lives independently, and can also help others in the society as problem solvers, if and when needed. A blood donation camp organized by Sundas Foundation was arranged on 2016 at Harbanspura Campuses of Concordia Colleges. Students enthusiastically donated blood with the spirit of saving lives.

Concordia Colleges take care of its staff and faculty welfare in a number of ways. An Annual dinner was arranged in December, 2016 to acknowledge the passion and hard work of Concordia employees. A lucky draw for five Umrah tickets was also held. Staff from Head Office, Regional Office and Campuses attended this dinner. A musical show was also arranged at the end of the function. It provided a golden opportunity to interact and share views on a large scale. The get-together not only gave everyone a sense of recognition but also allowed its five lucky participants to win a lucky draw for Umrah. Concordia College administration extends its greetings and best wishes to all the participants and specially to the winners of Umrah tickets who have been provided the opportunity of visiting the Holy Land.

GROUP HEAD MESSAGEAfter being a part of Beaconhouse School System for over fifteen years and worked on many different local and international projects. Last year I accepted another very challenging assignment to become a part of Concordia and work as Group Head of Concordia College Kasur Campus.

2016-17 has been a very challenging period to meet new challenges and deliver improved results, achieving high admission rate and integrating better educational aids and innovative Technology in our classroom environment.

It was a learning curve for me personally and I take great pride in achieving what we accomplished together in a short span of the beginning of a very enlightening journey with the help of our excellent hard working Concordia team. I am grateful to them for lending full support to the outcomes contributing with dedication and commitment in turning things around to strive and provide higher standard of education with support to our students who are future torch runners of Concordia!

The introduction of the new Bachelors programme recently introduced in our Kasur campus this year became a milestone providing our passing out students after FA/FSC the opportunity to continue their education by enrolling in the degree programme. We anticipate it will become the bench mark for similar growth in other Concordia colleges in future, Insha Allah.

We will endeavor to achieve yet higher goals to empower our students with a well-rounded education system, healthy extracurricular activities and becoming well rounded individuals when they pass through Concordia into the real world scenario.

We are very proud to announce the management’s decision to expand our group with the addition of two new campuses, Gujranwala and Walton, now included in our Group. We will closely monitor their growth assisting the new team to achieve same outcomes with our support. We hope to maintain close liaison with the parents and students to keep everyone well informed of any upcoming activities in the coming session. All my best wishes for another eventful year ahead and wishing you all a very Happy New Year!
