We have had solar power units installed on the roof of the administration block that will feed power back to the school. This is a Lend Lease initiative with the support of the P&C who co-financed their installation. Thank you to the P&C for this ongoing support resulting in our school being more environmentally friendly. Some of our new technology has arrived. As part of our technology push each classroom teacher will receive a laptop computer to enable them to interact with a range of technologies more easily. Our iPads and netbooks for student use are on order and will arrive in February. We are waiting on new models that are being released for the netbooks. So with our wireless network and more devices to use we look forward to Ironbark Ridge further embracing 21st Century learning in 2013. On Wednesday afternoon we will be meeting students and parents who have accepted places in our OC class for 2013. We look forward to meeting them and hope they will enjoy moving to their new school. Last week we had our final meeting with our new Kindergarten parents before their children finally arrive at the beginning of 2013. Our P&C have been extremely active and have already had volunteers for canteen and fundraising. What a great effort! On Thursday we will be celebrating student achievements within the school at our 2012 Presentation Day. All our children do an amazing job in many areas throughout the year. However, Presentation Day acknowledges those who have been outstanding. We will also congratulate Kindergarten for finishing their first year of school and farewell our Year 6 students. We will certainly miss them next year. All parents and friends are welcome to join us at the Rouse Hill High School hall commencing at 9:30am. We congratulate all students on their achievements throughout the year and look forward to a great year in 2013.

On Friday we will be presenting Awards of Excellence to those students who have received three Star Awards (or two if they are in the OC class). Congratulations to the following students for their hard work:

Stage 1: Liam 2A; Chloe 2S and Kellyanne 2K Stage 2: Stephanie 3/4P; Claudia, Amelia and Holly 3/4W; Zahrah 3/4J Stage 3: Zara and Matthew 5M; Mitchell 5S; Lily, Anandita and Madison 6B; Natasha, Rachel, Rianna, Saanya and John 6C; and Joshua, Natalie, Ashleigh, Erica and Nicholas 5/6B. I hope you enjoy your morning tea. Next Monday night we will celebrate our Year 6’s final year of Primary School. Yes they have made it through to the end. It will be a night of fun and formality at the Mean Fiddler. I’m sure there will be lots of smiles and tears as they leave to go to ‘bigger’ school! Congratulations Year 6! We wish you all the best at your new school and in the future. Don’t forget to visit and let us know how you are going. Over the next two weeks there are a range of fun activities happening including Year 6 Crazy Fun Day and a Talent Quest. We hope the students enjoy these activities as the end to a great year. We finish up on Wednesday 19th with a farewell to Year 6 who depart our school through a Guard of Honour. So parents come along to say goodbye and bring those cameras with you! We had hoped reports would be printed in time to distribute this week. However, they are still at the printers and not expected until next week. We apologise for the delay. This will be our last newsletter for 2013. Any important messages we will send home via a note and the app. Can I take this opportunity to farewell those children and families who are leaving us at the end of the year. We are sad to see you go but wish you all the best at your new schools. I hope you will keep a place for Ironbark Ridge in your heart and minds no matter where you go. Let us know how you are going. Reminder: Last day of school for 2012 – Wednesday 19th December First day back for 2013 Years 1 to 6 – Wednesday 30th January The staff and I would like to wish you all a happy and safe Christmas and New Year. We look forward to another fantastic year in 2013. Anne Forbes Principal

An Important Message from the Learning Support Team:

We are pleased to announce that starting this term, we are able to offer Occupational Therapy and Developmental Physiotherapy on school premises every Wednesday morning for a reasonable fee. Amanda Jones and Bronwyn Gelding from the Therapy and Learning Centre (TLC) at Kellyville, who come with a wealth of knowledge and experience, will be kindly providing these services. They are able to perform comprehensive diagnostic assessments, as well as ongoing therapy.

If you feel that your child could perhaps benefit from these services, please contact either Mrs Kerri Black or Mrs Kylie Robson from the school Learning Support Team on 88145687, or alternatively you can contact TLC directly on 94760766.

Please remember that we also have a Speech Pathologist available for therapy sessions on Tuesdays.

WELFARE MATTERS

Developing a team spirit: Team sports help kids to learn that things don’t go their way all the time, and that they need to respect their peers. They also help kids with resilience and how to respond to setbacks. Find out more: http://www.schoolatoz.nsw.edu.au/wellbeing/fitness/benefits-of-team-sports Confidence in public: Kids need to develop their skills for speaking in front of others long before their 21st birthday. If your tips for keeping nerves at bay during public speaking are limited to imagining your audience in their underwear, here is some advice to help your child prepare for their big moment in the spotlight. http://www.schoolatoz.nsw.edu.au/homework-and-study/english/english-tips/public-speaking-in-primary-school

KINDY CAPERS:

Congratulations to all our Kindy students who did such a brilliant job at presentation day and stole the scene with all their talent and charm. Many thanks to all the Mums and Dads that came along to make the day so special. It was also great to be able to celebrate all the efforts of our helpers this week at the volunteer’s morning tea. Your kind contributions of time have ensured we could achieve so much. Please keep returning any library books and home readers you might have at home. Also keep Year 6 Fun Day notes and money coming in and on the day provide students with a hat, water bottle and sun screen as most of the day’s activities are outdoors. Hope the Silly Season is treating you all kindly. Keep safe and happy.

P & C News President’s Report Wow! Can you believe another year is coming to an end? So much has happened this year; perhaps you came up to school for the Education Week assembly and open class rooms, or cheered on our Athletes at the Athletics Carnival. Did you bake a cake for the Election Day cake stall? Perhaps you volunteered in the Canteen for a couple of hours, kitted your child out in crazy socks and hair do, cooked a sausage at Bunnings, got in a battle with some contact covering Library books, donated a recipe to the cook book or served us in the Uniform Shop. To all of you, the P&C would like to say Thank You! It’s because of our

parents, helping in a million different ways that OUR school is great and the best place for your child to

spend their young years at. Here’s wishing you all a Happy Christmas and a safe, relaxing holiday. PS. don’t forget to come back next year and do it all again!

Canteen News for 2013 We have some great news for the families at Ironbark Ridge, the canteen will be open next year. We would like to thank all those who generously volunteered their time in the canteen this year and those that have made themselves available for 2013. The canteen trading days next year will remain Monday, Wednesday and Friday. For the canteen to continue providing our families with the option of having lunch orders, cold drinks and ice blocks, we will be relying on as many people to volunteer in the canteen as possible. If you would like to volunteer please email Bernie Baron at [email protected] There will be some changes next year we are currently in the middle of revising our menu. This means there will be some new products added and some products will be deleted from the menu. We will still offer a great range of healthy products and will continue with term specials which will be confirmed soon. Please note that on Wednesday the 19th of December - last day of term 4 The canteen will only be open for over the counter sales. No flexi school orders or lunch orders will be accepted on this day.

Sorry for any in convenience.
