Principals Report On Tuesday we held our annual Presentation Night, following COVID regulations. This ran all day Tuesday and into the evening to allow each Year group a small intimate presentation ceremony to celebrate so many wonderful achievements. Congratulations to all of the award recipients. A special mention to George Wall who received the Inverell Public School Dux Award for 2020. Our Year 6 students will be farewelled by Year 5 this evening. We hope they have a wonderful time and we wish them well in the next chapter of their learning at high school. Due to COVID requirements we have catered food for the students and IPS staff will become waiters and waitresses for the night. A huge thank you to our P&C for their ongoing support and generosity to our school. It is greatly appreciated. I wish to personally thank each and every one of my staff, all of our students, every family, every carer and every community member who displayed integrity, confidence and resilience throughout the entire year of 2020. Together we have and continue to battle the effects of drought and bushfires and then a virus by the name of COVID-19 came. We thought it was just a virus but as the days turned into weeks, weeks into months it became more. It became a new way of learning, a new way of safety and a new way of living. Kindergarten students all know to wash their hands to the entire happy birthday song! 1000 water bottles have been handed out and social distancing became the norm. Our students and families did everything we asked of them and not once did we receive any negative criticism. We supplied work books, you became teachers, we supplied stationery, you helped your children become authors, artists, mathematicians, scientists and technology gurus. We asked you to send your child one day a week and you followed the procedures, you collected work books without complaint, gave constructive feedback and kept on keeping on, one step at a time. 2020 has been a very challenging year and I am humbled by the human spirit in the face of adversity. Together we have created harmony from challenge. Students across K-6 have had the opportunity throughout 2020 to participate in Mini Olympics, dress up as their favourite book character and complete the walkathon, swim school for 2-6, UNE science discovery bus 3-6, cyber safety talks, CPR, 101 days of school for Kindergarten where all students came dressed as Dalmatians, completed kitchen garden activities and made lots of new friends, all while coming to school with a smile and a positive attitude. I would like to wish you all a very merry festive season, stay safe and enjoy the summer break. Thank you once again from the bottom of my heart for your onging support throughout 2020.
