Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School seeks a full time Head
of Public Services for its Grand Rapids, Michigan campus. The successful candidate
will coordinate and supervise staff in day-to-day activities. Manage the
implementation of procedures and policies for Reference, Circulation, interlibrary
loan, document delivery, and stack management. Provide leadership in establishing,
implementing and improving instructional and user service policies and procedures.
Plan new technology based services including electronic document delivery,
electronic reference services, enhanced automated inventory, and circulation
processes. Assist with department planning. Conduct appropriate need assessments
and recommends budgeting, scheduling, policy and procedural changes. Represent
the library director for the Grand Rapids campus.
Qualifications: M.L.S. and Juris Doctor are required. Significant experience in a
law library may be substituted for one of the degrees. Minimum of five years
professional law library experience, with a minimum of three years in a supervisory
capacity. Working knowledge of legal materials and legal research. Excellent
interpersonal, communication, and management skills. Willingness to work a
flexible schedule. Requires leadership skills to guide a team as part of a mulit-
location library.

The Harper Woods Public Library is looking for an enthusiastic,
patron-focused person to work as a Youth-Teen Librarian (part time).
Evening and weekend hours will be required. The pay rate is $18 per hour
for applicants with a Master’s Degree in Library Science or $15 per hour

Job Description
The effective Library Monitor will assure a safe, pleasant and inviting environment for library users and employees. The Monitor is responsible for enforcing the Library Code of Conduct for public behavior in the library building and on library grounds. This position reports directly to the Library Head of Support Services.
A Library Monitor may be called upon to do any or all of the following: (These examples do not include all of the tasks the employee may be expected to perform):
Greet the public pleasantly.
Know and understand the Library Code of Conduct.
Observe behavior in Library building and on Library grounds.
Routinely visually check all areas of the Library, including public rest rooms.
Remind patrons of Library Code of Conduct; intercede when behavior is in violation of the Code.
Pick up trash on the grounds when necessary and take out recyclables weekly.
Participate in Library opening and closing procedures.
Write logs and report incidents and contact police if necessary.
Responsible for program and meeting room set-ups, which involves moving chairs and tables.
Respond to Library staff requests for assistance.
Pick up and drop off mail at City Hall.
Light building maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs.

TLN Outreach Services Committee Meeting October 11, 2017 @ Rochester Hills Public Library, Karen Wiedman, Host Meeting began at 10:00. In attendance: David Stokes, Milford Public Library Sarah Roe, Taylor Community Library Bridgette Felix, The Library Network Tara Scott, Canton Public Library Kathy Rudes, Auburn Hills, Rochester Public Libraries Anna Brougher, Allen Park Public Library Karen Wiedman, Rochester Hills Public Library Mary Davis, Rochester Hills Public Library The meeting started with David Stokes announcing we need to approve officers for our group. This should have happened at our previous meeting. Gina Crowther, our President elect, is ill and cannot fill that position. Karen Wiedman agreed to take the minutes of this meeting. We need a chair, chair elect, and a secretary. David Stokes agreed to be chair for 2018, Karen Wiedman will be chair-elect, Sarah Roe will be secretary. A motion was made to approve this and was approved by acclamation. An email will be sent to all members of this TLN group to inform them of this arrangement. Approval of July Minutes A motion was made by Karen Wiedman to approve the minutes of the July 19 meeting and seconded by Sarah Roe. 2018 Meeting Dates and Locations Wednesday January 17 - Auburn Hills Public Library Wednesday April 25 - Milford Public Library Wednesday July 18 – Rochester Hills Public Library October – date to be decided when confirm date for MLA - Taylor We discussed sending a note of these dates to the TLN list serv in hopes of getting more people to attend our meetings. Building Bridges Through Disability Awareness Presentation Mary Davis, librarian, along with Lisa Kowalski, an advocate for people with special needs, gave a presentation about ways libraries can collaborate with their community to raise disability awareness. Six hundred 5th grade students came to RHPL to learn about the Disability Rights Movement by exploring the library’s accessibility and use of Universal Design. The field trip included touring the RHPL Outreach Department, indoor and outdoor curriculum-based measuring and mapping activities, guest speakers describing daily challenges, and walking Downtown Rochester to explore private businesses and municipal access. Outreach staff shared some services the library provides including large print materials, adaptive materials and technologies, and the talking books for the blind service. Lisa is available to go to any library in the area to help set up a similar Outreach program.
Round Table Discussion – What’s Happening at Your Library? Kathy Rudes – Kathy coordinates with the city Senior Center to arrange delivery of library materials to about 15 customers. She meets the resident and has some volunteers help with the deliveries. David Stokes – David visits three facilities once per month and does readings. Titles used include “Everyman’s Little Pocket Poems” and the Chicken Soup books. He discussed problems coordinating visits with facilities that have a revolving door of staff. Sarah Roe – Sarah is the new coordinator for Outreach and volunteer services. Taylor library is adding a second accessible computer in the children’s area. They are the local resource for the national Braille and Talking Book service. They are adding computer classes to their programs. Bridgette Felix – A program called “Barriers to Our Libraries” will be offered by the Library of Michigan on October 19, 2017. Tara Scott – The Adult Services department at Canton is providing computer help to seniors. They are also coordinating story times for special needs families. Anna Broughner – The library is promoting class visits, coordinating with the Detroit Institute of Arts and the city an Inside Out Program which highlights art works from the DIA, providing voter registration help for customers, doing a social security information program, and offering a shredding program in their parking lot. Mary Davis – Oakland Talking Book Service hosts two book discussions. One is held in downtown Pontiac, the other is held via telephone. The English Language Learning program is held three times per week and a new program on American culture has started. The Book Peddler (the library’s bikemobile) has been very active in the community, appearing at a trick or treat program at the police station, a pumpkin festival, and at Rochester Posed where staff were mannequins posed with the vehicle for an evening. Substitute Bookmobile Driver/Para-Professional DATE: January 19, 2018 POSITION: Substitute Bookmobile Driver/Para-Professional NATURE OF WORK: The Substitute Driver/Para-professional works under the Head of Outreach Services on an as-needed basis. The primary role of this position is the safe and efficient operation of the Bookmobile, a 36-foot custom vehicle containing library materials for checkout and a seating area. Typical duties may include, but are not limited to:
Operates the Bookmobile safely and efficiently.
Advises on maintenance of the vehicle and performs routine maintenance inspections.
Represents YDL at community events by distributing information and speaking about the Library.
Supports delivery of reference and information services for library patrons of all ages.
Assists patrons in use of computers and other library technology.
Performs circulation duties such as new borrower registration and checking materials in and out.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Current State of Michigan Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class B, with Air Brake Endorsement.
Excellent Driving Record.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong commitment to public service excellence.
Ability to function in a professional manner, work independently, and use good judgment.
Flexible and dependable, and willing to work on call.
Experience working with diverse populations.
HOURS: Hours of employment will vary. May include daytime, evening, or weekend hours. Most hours are scheduled 3-4 weeks in advance, with some shifts offered at shorter notice as needed. No permanent hours or schedule are implied.
SALARY/BENEFITS:

· Desirable candidates will have a proactive, public service attitude along with the ability to interact and work
effectively with patrons and staff.
· Familiarity with technology, especially tablets, e-readers, smartphones and other devices used with the
library’s digital services. Possess knowledge of online information resources, downloadable media,
computers and software programs.
· Strong oral and written communication skills.
· Demonstrated knowledge of library materials and resources, and an awareness of new developments and
trends in public libraries.
· Coursework or experience in collection management desired.
· Public library experience preferred.

SALARY RANGE: AFSCME 3636 Grade L Pay Range: $53,263 - $65,559

JOB DUTIES:
• This position is responsible for managing the Youth Services division including supervision of career and non-career
staff. Selects, develops, motivates and evaluates a competent, professional staff; and schedules staff to ensure smooth
divisional operations.
• Performs reference and reader's advisory services for patrons at the Youth Division’s public service desk.
• Coordinates a very active series of special programs which will address the needs of the community. • Develops goals and sets priorities for the division and participates in the Library’s long-range planning process. Works
with Library Administration to develop policies, procedures, programs and services. • Prepares and manages the Youth Services Division’s annual budget and oversees expenditures from the adapted city
budget; actively seeks out new revenue sources for the Library. • Attends meetings and workshops as scheduled; holds staff meetings and communicates regularly with staff. • Oversees the selection and management of the youth collection including authorizing expenditures and monitors
weeding and selection process. • Provides services and plans programs for a variety of community groups such as public and private schools in
Southfield, home school groups, pre-schools and other community groups. • Act as Librarian in Charge as scheduled, responsible for the smooth operation of the Library in the absence of Library
Administration. • Completes special projects as requested and other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: • Master’s degree in Library Science from an accredited A.L.A. university with emphasis in youth services. • Three years of professional Library experience preferably in the Youth Division of a Public Library. • One year of supervisory experience or equivalent expertise gained through administration of projects and/or staff
coordination. • Must possess a proactive, public service attitude and excellent communication skills; superior interpersonal skills
necessary to promote communication. • Ability to plan and administer departmental activities, including staff supervision and budget management. • Significant problem solving and organizational skills necessary to coordinate diverse, simultaneous programs and the
ability to work under pressure of deadlines and changing priorities. • Excellent communication skills and public service orientation
