Issue 14 From the Principal’s Pen 12 th November 2015 Dear Parents/Carers ASSEMBLY Ms Tonkin’s Year 2 children “made” our morning with a beautifully sung song “What I am.” With energy and enthusiasm, actions to the music, these children certainly showed convincingly they believed in the words they sang. The message was all about being yourself, having confidence to do and achieve, to reach higher with your goals, to be the special person you are. Bright and cheery this song was a real “hit” with the audience. Thank you Year 2 for your item, and thank you for conducting the Assembly so ably. You were all stars of the day. COMBINED SCHOOL “SHOW AND TELL” MINI CONCERT This was a unique opportunity for schools in Esperance to combine their singing talents and work as a harmonious choral group. We have word that Nikki Sullivan, Choral Conductor, was very impressed with the students’ attentiveness and appreciated the preparation Kathy Stevens and the participating students had put in to make the concert such a success. BOOK FAIR This much awaited event is happening this week. Students have been keenly making all kinds of fish to decorate the library for the theme of “Under the Sea”. Thanks to Mrs Nadason and her band of helpers, the fair has again captured our imaginations and interest in books. There is a wide range of books available for reading catering for all tastes, and or to put aside for Christmas presents. PARENT/STAFF AND STUDENT SURVEY The school has conducted the annual survey to ascertain the perceptions of parents, staff and students of our school. The purpose of the survey is to identify areas that could be improved in the school. The survey will be taken to the P & C and Council for discussions. Parents are invited to come along to the next P & C meeting to view and discuss total results. Points of interest. All the survey questions rated “greater than average” from parents, staff and students. Parents, staff and student responses were very similar. Best responses from parents: “My child feels safe at this school.” Score 4.5 out of possible 5. “My child likes being at this school.” Score 4.5 out of a possible 5. “Teachers at this school expect my child to do his or her best.” 4.4 score out of a possible 5. Thank you to parents for taking part in the survey and for your active interest in making Castletown a better school. P & C MEETING A reminder that our next P & C Meeting will be held on Monday 16 th November, 2pm in the library. All welcome. Dear Parents/Carers

ASSEMBLY

Ms Tonkin’s Year 2 children “made” our morning with a beautifully sung song “What I am.”

With energy and enthusiasm, actions to the music, these children certainly showed convincingly they

believed in the words they sang. The message was all about being yourself, having confidence to do and

achieve, to reach higher with your goals, to be the special person you are. Bright and cheery this song was a

real “hit” with the audience. Thank you Year 2 for your item, and thank you for conducting the Assembly so

ably. You were all stars of the day.

COMBINED SCHOOL “SHOW AND TELL” MINI CONCERT

This was a unique opportunity for schools in

Esperance to combine their singing talents and work

as a harmonious choral group. We have word that

Nikki Sullivan, Choral Conductor, was very impressed

with the students’ attentiveness and appreciated the

preparation Kathy Stevens and the participating

students had put in to make the concert such a success.

BOOK FAIR

This much awaited event is happening this week. Students have been keenly making all kinds of fish to

decorate the library for the theme of “Under the Sea”. Thanks to Mrs Nadason and her band of helpers,

the fair has again captured our imaginations and interest in books. There is a wide range of books available

for reading catering for all tastes, and or to put aside for Christmas presents.

PARENT/STAFF AND STUDENT SURVEY

The school has conducted the annual survey to ascertain the perceptions of parents, staff and students of

our school. The purpose of the survey is to identify areas that could be improved in the school. The survey

will be taken to the P & C and Council for discussions. Parents are invited to come along to the next P & C

meeting to view and discuss total results.

Points of interest.

All the survey questions rated “greater than average” from parents, staff and students. Parents, staff and

COUNCILLOR LEADERSHIP VISIT TO NULSEN

Thank you to Nulsen Primary School for hosting our councillors with leadership and team building activities. The

occasion was also a chance to share ideas and information about each other’s schools.

KINDY SPORTS DAYS

Our Kindy students were exposed to a range of different activities

and skills in their annual sports days. Running, flag races, bike rides

and many more saw our children “go for it” and do their best with

lots of parent barracking and support on the side lines. Great fun

days to remember and cherish.

THETHETHETHE VIRTUES PROJECT VIRTUES PROJECT VIRTUES PROJECT VIRTUES PROJECT –––– KINDNESSKINDNESSKINDNESSKINDNESS WHAT IS WHAT IS WHAT IS WHAT IS KINDNESS?KINDNESS?KINDNESS?KINDNESS?

Kindness is showing you care, doing some good to make life better for others. It is being thoughtful

about people’s needs. It is showing love and compassion to someone who is sad or needs your help.

Kindness is treating yourself and others gently. It is caring about the earth and all living things.

WWWWHY PRACTISE HY PRACTISE HY PRACTISE HY PRACTISE KINDNESSKINDNESSKINDNESSKINDNESS? ? ? ?

Without kindness, no one would listen when people or animals need help. Everyone would be looking out for themselves.

The world is lonely without kindness. When someone reaches out to another in an act of kindness, it helps them both.

People’s lack of kindness to the earth damages the air, water and land. This causes people and animals to suffer, too.

Being kind allows us to feel connected to everything and everyone.

HOW DO YOU PRACTISE HOW DO YOU PRACTISE HOW DO YOU PRACTISE HOW DO YOU PRACTISE KINDNESSKINDNESSKINDNESSKINDNESS????

You practise kindness by noticing when someone or something needs care. Become sensitive to the world around you.

Use your imagination to think of things that give others happiness. Find out what habits harm the earth and choose

kinder ways to live. If you are tempted to be cruel, to criticise or tease, decide not to do it. Speak kindly instead. Greet

people kindly. Take good care of your pets.

SIGNS OF SUCCESSSIGNS OF SUCCESSSIGNS OF SUCCESSSIGNS OF SUCCESS

You are practising kindness when you:

• Give tender attention to someone who is sad or needs help

• Do things to give others happiness

• Practise habits that help the environment (reduce, reuse, recycle)

• Resist the temptation to be cruel

• Accept people who are different

• Having the courage to show you care

COMMUNITY NOTICES

Please DO NOT send your child to

school with food containing nuts or

nut products.

ADVENTURELAND PARK MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE (inc) The Adventureland Management Committee (Inc) has been operating since 1993 and has achieved much over the years. The park is leased from the Port Authority to the Shire of Esperance and is currently managed by this committee. Committee members have followed diverse interests which have resulted in the creation of the secure small children’s area with BBQ facility(being developed), the whale climbing frame, gazebos, maze ( built by the Lions Club) and the ‘now retiring’ skate board facility. A second committee to develop and operate the railway evolved from the original park committee and has been hugely successful in developing the track, the station, paved walk areas, cover areas and the clock tower with work shed and takes responsibility for the maintenance and running of the railway. In conjunction with the shire, the Adventureland Park Committee earnestly wishes to continue with the notion of adventure and develop further activity based equipment /opportunities. In order to maintain impetus, we are inviting parents of young people to join our committee, (which meets once a month), and be able to provide input with ideas, and hopefully some time. Are you interested? Do you have ideas? Would like further information? Your contributions will be invaluable. Please contact me, Charlotte Davidson (Chairman) on 9071 2043 or email [email protected] Our AGM is on 3rd Dec at 5.00pm at the Railway station, followed by a general meeting. All welcome
