Dear Parents/Carers, This week we have had 135 Year 6 pupils join us for a full Transion week prior to them joining us in September. They have worked very hard and adapted to secondary school exceponally well. Make a Book day proved very popular again and as I write they are all busy trying to build a model in the maths department out of spaghe and marshmallows! The Prom on Friday was a fabulous occasion and we may have to explore a bigger venue for next year. Thank you to all Year 11 students and members of staff who made this event so memorable and such a success. Open Evening on Thursday, 5th July 2012 from 5 pm to 7 pm was very well aended and there is clarificaon below of the school PE kit for Year 7 students (moving to Year 8 in September) and Year 6 students joining us in September). Wednesday, 11th July from 4 pm to 5 pm SLT would like to share with you what was discussed this week with parents who aended: Ofsted: Parents appreciated the hard work that has taken place in school to achieve the Ofsted grade we did. We explained our plans to now move towards Outstanding status. Homework Inconsistency of homework seng and marking was discussed and parents were pleased to learn that we were already aware of this and that steps have been taken to make changes from September 2012 to introduce more consistency. Parents asked if they could see their child’s work more regularly and we advised that students can take their workbooks home to share with parents on a regular basis Exam Progress We are making good progress. Communicaon Parents appreciated the newsleer and the informaon contained within it. Having it sent by email was very convenient. Several parents had contacted the school and praised the speed of response they had received from staff. Teaching There was discussion regarding the use of cover staff in lessons. We explained that we will not appoint staff Appointments to teach students at school who we do not feel are good enough. It has taken me to make the right appointments and we are now receiving a much higher number of applicants for each posion adversed as word of the rapid and sustained progress of the school spreads. PE Kit Important Update Please note the kit is only on sale via the school. The new school PE kit approved by the Governing Body comes into effect from September 2012 and applies to all new students joining Year 7 in September. The PE kit is also required for those students currently in Year 7 who will be in Year 8 from September. There has been a great deal of interest from parents in other year groups and orders will be accepted across all years. Order forms are being sent home to Year 6 today and to Year 7 on Monday. Alternavely they can be collected from the school office. Orders should be placed before the end of term and you will be advised when the kit is ready for collecon. Students of the week

Year 7: Grace Ward, Amber Dawson, Yasmine Millard and Bethany Squires for raising £23 selling cakes for the new enterprise sceheme. Well done—good initiative.

Year 8: Emily Stevenson for being helpful, co-operative and a responsible student at all times.

Year 9: Sian Evans was involved in breaking a record as part of Kids Society (Young carers). They got 600 people to wear paper hats in 12 minutes. Well done Sian.

Year 6 Transition week

We wanted to share with you images of the work and activities that the students have taken part in during the week:

Year 6 have worked in each department including maths, science, history, geography, Art, Product Design and had a memory skills session in the main hall. They even found time to create their own books!

Primary School News We look forward to welcoming Year 6 pupils to our school next week for their transition week. There is a very exciting programme of events for all to enjoy and some excellent learning opportunities.

Gifted and Talented We are currently welcoming a group of 30 gifted and talented students each Thursday from our linked Primary schools, Redlands, Ranvilles and Wallisdean. The last session for this term:
