Children First – Aspire – Challenge – Achieve
Newsletter 37 22nd July 2016
Dear Parents/Carers,
As we come to the end of the year I would like to take this opportunity to thank
you for your continued support to ensure that we work together to improve the
life chances for our children. All members of our Academy community have worked
tirelessly to ensure the children learn, are challenged in many areas of school life,
are aspirational and achieve success in all of their endeavours. The children are a
real credit to New Horizons and I am extremely proud to be the Headteacher of
such a welcoming and supportive Academy.
Over the summer I hope that you enjoy spending valuable time with your children
and have a much deserved rest so the children are ready to begin the next
stage of their learning journey in September. The Academy will be transformed
again by September with the development of the play areas, new staff and many
more children. I know that you will all join me in welcoming them to New Horizons
and our outstanding ethos of Children first, Challenge, Aspire and Achieve as it
resonates through everything that we do together.
Have a restful break and I look forward to seeing the children On Wednesday 7th
September looking smart in their new uniform and ready to learn.
Mrs Murphy, Headteacher

to the system, please follow the instructions to activate your account.
If you have any queries or would like more information, please contact the school
office.
The New Horizons uniform supplier will be here tomorrow - 23rd July from 10am until 2pm.
We do still have some items in stock in school – please call 01634 336565 to enquire.
The School Council of New Horizons has been busy working hard to make the school
even better! As the term draws to an end, they have been thinking about all of the
things they have done this year.
After children said that they wanted to see more colour around the school, the
School Council asked for bright displays to be created for the corridors. There are
now some amazing canvases, pictures, poems for children to enjoy when they are
walking through the school.
Earlier this year, the School Council asked their classmates how the school could be
improved. Suggestions included new lunchtime equipment and a vegetable patch,
which are both being planned for next year. Recently, they have also been
discussing the school dinner menu and thinking about how they could improve it.
Overall, it has been a successful year for School Council. If you would like to find
out more about what they have discussed in their meetings, the minutes are
available on the New Horizons website in the ‘School Council’ section. For children
who would like to join the School Council next year, elections will be taking place in
September. Look out nearer the time for details of how to apply!
Year R and Nursery had a fantastic time at
the end of year beach party. The sun was
shining and
the children
had great fun
spending time
dancing to
music as well
as playing in
the sand and
water.
On Thursday Year R children had great fun playing with their bubbles in
the afternoon!
Old Shirts for Art
If you’re having a clear out during the holidays
and have any old adult shirts that we can let the
children wear for art – please pop them in to the
office when we return in September.
Thank you very much.
On Thursday, Year 1 celebrated their learning this year by having a
Superheroes party. We designed our own party hats and magical place mats.
The children took part in lots of fun party games and ate lots of lovely party
food.
The Year 1 team would like to say a huge well
done to everyone for trying hard with their
learning this year. Enjoy the summer holiday,
stay safe and we will see you all in
September.
Sports Day
All of the points that the children won at Sports Day have
been added up and we were proud to present a brand new
trophy to the captain of the winning team – ‘River’.
Mr Murphy handed
the shield to River
Captain, Temi and
Vice-Captain
Patrick in this
morning’s
assembly.
