Student Leaders Speeches On the 6th November, students in year 5 gave a speech to fellow students in anticipation of persuading them to vote them into leadership positions in 2019. All students did a wonderful job. There were nerves, but they showed their leadership qualities by standing proudly in front of their audience. A job well done Year 5 students. Good luck. Mrs Howard Relieving Principal

Thank you to EHPS staff for their professionalism and commitment in my unplanned absent. Staff

attended the Year 6 camp to support supervision and care of students as myself and Mrs Edwards

expectantly had to leave. Staff and the Exec team stepped up into leadership roles back at school and did

a marvellous job to ensure the smooth day to day running of EHPS.

Our P&C AGM was held on Tuesday night. Thank you to the 2018 P&C for their tireless dedication and

ongoing support for the school. I look forward to the continued strong partnership and another very

successful year with our newly elected 2019 P&C. Congratulations to Roz, Amy, Emma, Kerrie, Mel and

the other executive members for accepting executive roles in our P&C. I would encourage parents to

attend our P&C meetings as they are the forum for parents to be informed about school directions and

play a large part in the programs and events that make this a great school. Thank you to the 66 parents

who took part in our Tell Them from Me survey. Next P&C meeting we will be sharing the feedback from

parents in the survey.

At morning assembly these students were recognised by staff for being great listeners. Well done Hunter, Lila, Heidi, Rosie, Bailey, Kaelan, Chloe, Olivia, Savannah, Iyla, Levi, Jasmin, Ayden, Toby, Ashlyn, Bella, Arizona, Caleb and Mackenzie.

Enrolment for 2019 Enrolments for 2019 kindergarten should be finalised as soon as possible. This will allow us to best commence any required Learning Support meetings, transition planning and consideration to staffing. It is important to remember that only in-zone applications will be considered. Proof of address must be provided in the form of e.g. water rates, electricity/gas bill, land rates, current lease agreement in date. Please note: The demand for local enrolment exceeds the number of places available, out of zone enrolments will not be available. I look forward in seeing you all at our Grand friends day this Friday. NSW Grandparents Day is held every year on the last Sunday in October. At EHPS we welcome all valued community members to be a part of this special occasion to spend time with an older loved one and to celebrate the important role older people play in your local community. It's a day to connect across the generations. Make the most of the awesome moments. Kathryn Duncan

The Edgy Rockers On Friday 2nd November the band headed off to Stanwell Tops for a three day camp concluding with the band slam finals. The camp consisted of master classes in media, performance and song writing as well as a pool party and lots of fun and games. In the finals the band competed against seven other bands from Queensland, Victoria, Canberra, Sydney & Wollongong. The Edgy Rockers performed like true rock stars against some tough competition and unfortunately were not awarded a place this year. All band members are proud to have reached the finals and represented Edgeworth Heights in the competition. Like true professionals they are already focused on practising for the competition in 2019.

EHPS Cultural Diversity Survey

At Edgeworth Heights Public School, we consider ourselves very lucky to have a diverse and multicultural community. Our students, staff and friends of the school have very different histories, backgrounds and knowledge and we would like to celebrate our diversity. In order to do this in a meaningful way for our students, we need your help!

You will be receiving a note home with a survey about your family’s background. It focuses on information about birthplaces, languages and migration stories (where applicable).

We appreciate your time and enthusiasm in sharing your story. We would like to use the knowledge we gain from our community to create and implement powerful teaching and learning opportunities for our students. In doing so, we aim build upon EHPS’s culture, as a welcoming place where students learn to value, respect and celebrate diversity.

The survey can be completed on paper and returned to the office, or online at https://survey.zohopublic.com/zs/SfCsIZ. Please complete the survey as soon as possible so that we can collate the information and start working on a special project to celebrate diversity in our school.

If you have any questions or need further information, please contact Miss Fulton.

1H FURRY VISITORS

Last week Blake P from 1H received special permission from Mrs Duncan to show the class some furry friends. Blake brought along 3 cavoodles. One was his family's named 'Noodles', one was his Grandma's named 'Coco' and finally one was his Aunty Courtney's named Marley. Blake's Aunty Courtney is blind and Marley is her service dog. Aunty Courtney showed 1H the importance of what a service dog does and reminded all of 1H students two important pieces of information. Firstly, service dogs wear a vest which usually states hat their service entails (eg therapy). Secondly, that when children and adults see a dog out in public they need to ask permission from the dog's owner before they can pat them as some service dogs are not allowed to be patted because they are on duty. 1H thoroughly enjoyed our special visit!

Year 6 Fun Day A reminder to everyone that our Year 6 Fun Day will be held on Friday, 23rd November, between lunch and recess for students of EHPS. There will be lots of interesting activities for all pupils to participate in with the costs ranging from 20 cents up to two dollars, depending on the activity. So make sure you are saving your coins up, so you can join in the fun. Please make sure your child has their money in a labelled wallet, purse or container on the day. If anyone has any items suitable for a children’s Trash and Treasure stall please send these items into the school office by Wednesday, 21st of November. A great opportunity to clean out toy boxes before Christmas. Thank you, Mrs Edwards, Miss Hammond & Year 6 pupils.

Year 6 Camp In Week 3 Year 6 spent a week at the Myuna Bay Sport and Recreational Camp. Pupils had the opportunity to participate in a wide range of activities such as, archery, high ropes, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, rock climbing, a giant swing, obstacle course, bike riding and swimming during the day. Each night the children were able to join in with other schools and participated in a games evening, team events, a trivia night and a County Fair night. The children were very well behaved throughout the week, challenged themselves and had lots of fun. Apart from a broken wrist which required surgery, jarred fingers, stitched legs, numerous scrapes and middle of the night hospital emergency visits (for teachers), everyone returned to school safely. Parents should be proud of the way pupils conducted themselves at camp and represented their school. Their teachers are certainly proud of them. Thanks to Mrs Duncan, Mrs Williams, Mrs Howard, Mrs Foster and Mr Longfield for their support at camp during the week. We have never before managed to knock out so many teachers at one camp. Miss Hammond and Mrs Edwards

Peer Support In Weeks 4 & 5 Over the last 2 weeks Year 6 children have led sessions of Peer Support. The focus for Lesson 3 was: Strategies- Who Can I Tell? Pupils completed and discussed a Force Field Analysis on positive and negative responses to bullying. They revised the Hi-5 Strategy and completed Individual Helping Hands, identifying who they could turn to for help. The lesson ended with a Co-operative Game: Knots. The focus for Lesson 4 was: Bystanders /Upstanders Code- Groups discussed- What is the difference between a bystander and an upstander? When is it reporting or dobbing? They then made individual, Anti-bullying Chatterboxes and finished with a Co-operative game: Simon Says. Questions you could ask your child about the lessons: 1. What names did you write on your helping hand? 2. What is the Hi 5 Strategy? Do you use this? 3. How did this make you feel when you used it? 4. What is a bystander? What is an Upstander? 5. Can you explain the difference between dobbing and reporting? Once again it was great to see all the children interacting with each other and the bigger kids helping the younger ones during activities. The final lesson will take place in Week 6 and Doing Things Together Day in Week 8 will conclude this year’s program.

SRC Fundraiser For John Hunter Kids Hospital A big thank you to those families and staff who have already donated to the SRC fundraiser for craft supplies for the John Hunter Hospital- Kids Ward School. We are sure it will make the days brighter for the sick kids who are in hospital over Christmas. In the photo you can see Isabelle with what has been donated so far. It was Isabelle who proposed this fundraiser to the SRC after she found her stay in hospital was made easier when she had lots of fun things to use. The school captains, along with Mrs Duncan and Isabelle, will be taking the donations up to the hospital in the next couple of weeks. We are hoping to collect a lot more from such a big and generous school as ours. We have a whole car to fill up. Any donations can be handed in at the front office over the next week. If you do not wish to donate craft goods, money can be donated which will be used to purchase Christmassy craft items. Let’s all join together to make it a happier Christmas for sick kids.
