Newsletter 1 September 2016 January 2017 Editorial CONTENTS We are very pleased to present the first CE- DEJ Khartoum newsletter, indicating the scientific ac- tivities of the centre from September 2016 to January 2017- in conjunction with its main partners. The next newsletters shall be published on a trimestre basis and will present and share up coming events and scientific contributions. We would like to seize this opportunity to express our gratitude and best wishes to Dr. Alice Franck, who after three years in the role of Coordina- tor of CEDEJ Khartoum has resumed, starting from September 2016, her position as ‘Maître de Confé- rence’ in Geography at Paris 1 Pantheon- Sorbonne. Notwithstanding, she remains very active within the Sudanese domain and deeply affiliated to the CE- DEJ Khartoum as an Associate Researcher. We are also proud to illustrate our new logo designed by Julien Rabotteau. The prominant Blue and White colors not only evoque the meeting of the Blue and White Niles within Sudan, but equal - ly symbolize transnational connections with the wi - der region, extending from the Great Lakes to the Middle-East, through the Horn of Africa and the Me- diterranean shores. We hope that the information contained in this Newsletter will provide a useful source of infor - mation. It introduces our students and researchers and should provide an avenue for our readers to keep a breast of our activites in Sudan and abroad. We wish you a happy new academic and non-academic year 2017, and we look forward mee- ting you in Khartoum. Jean-Nicolas Bach, Coordinator CEDEJ Khartoum Alice Koumurian, Project officer A Perspective on Contemporary Sudans Migration - Social Studies - Religion Upcoming Events On February 22th, 2017, at 4 pm, Mahasin Yousif , PhD candidate at the University of Khartoum, affiliate of CEDEJ Khartoum, will present her doctoral research on «Studying Obliterated History in Sudan: Methodological Challenges». On March 16-17th, 2017, three of CEDEJ Khartoum re- searchers, Azza Ahmed Abdel Aziz, Katarzyna Grabska and Mohamed A. G. Bakhit, will present a panel at the Re- fugee Studies Centre (RSC) Triennial conference at Keble Oxford College, “Beyond Crisis: Rethinking Refugee Stu- dies”.
