Every garden is only as good as the ones that care for it. And the future of our own global garden rests in very small hands.

With this in mind we are launching a collection of textiles and soft toys around the theme of cultivation and sustainability. The TORVA collection. The characters and patterns found in this collection tell stories about vegetables and gardens and have been developed with the importance of learning by playing in mind.

The soft toys are designed to encourage environmental thinking amongst small children and to help generate a personal relationship to nature.

These products are designed from a child’s perspective and will help plant happy little seeds of environmental awareness in a fun and positive way. And from these seeds will the world of tomorrow grow.

VARMLUFT. Spontaneous design.Designer Jon Karlsson

Creative people have a tendency to spontaneously wander off and do their own thing. This sometimes leads to some unplanned - and successful - results.

Jon Karlsson, Designer, is one of those people. He was briefed to design a new IKEA lamp series. When samples of his new lamps were made at a Chinese factory, he left Sweden and headed off to China to see the result.

Everyone was thrilled with the prototype and got into an enthusiastic discussion about it. They turned to get the input of the designer, Jon, and were a little surprised to find he had suddenly disappeared.

Meanwhile, Jon was enjoying a spontaneous tour of the factory. His happy wanderings led him to a room where product samples were made out of paper. He strolled around the room, feeling the paper textures and soaking up the atmosphere of the factory. Feeling inspired, he sat down and set about playing with paper.

Eventually, his exasperated colleagues tracked him down and tried to drag him back to the matter at hand. But Jon’s mind had moved on to fresher pastures and was happily designing a new lamp - despite no-one asking him to. So, they took a look at what he was working on. And thought it was great! So much so, they made it, right there on the spot.

It’s VARMLUFT. And looking at it, it’s not so hard to picture its origins in a Chinese factory sample room, with an inspired designer thoroughly enjoying himself, playing with paper.
