Your local Councillors hold a surgeryevery Saturday from 11am until 12noon at the Salvation Army Hall onBenhill Avenue (excluding August)
Many residents have been telling usabout the growing parking problemsin the area due to St Helier hospital, commuter parking and people visitingthe town centre. The Council consulted us about theproblems late last year and have nowanalysed the 5,500 replies received.Based on those responses, Councilofficers have now prepared street-by-street proposals, and the Council willbe consulting on these beforeChristmas.
● An extension of the town centreCPZ into the rest of CollingwoodRoad, and into Stayton, Dibdin,Marlborough, Blenheim, Hallmeadand Vermont Roads;
● A separate CPZ in Aultone Way,Woodend and Green Hill
● Parking bays with yellow linerestrictions in the roads to the eastof Rose Hill
They will also be discussed at theLocal Committee on 26 November(7.30pm at the Salvation Army, BenhillAve). The detailed plans will beavailable online and at Sutton library.
Your Lib Dem Council wants toaddress the problems that many haveraised over the years. But it alldepends on whether the proposalsget your support. So look out for theconsultation letter from the Council inmid November, and make sure youtell the Council your views.
Working for you all year round
If you live in the Collingwood Road areayou will shortly be consulted onproposals to improve safety in the road.We have had many people raiseconcerns about speeding traffic andheavy lorries. There are particularconcerns for parents taking their
children to Westbourne School. Lookout for a letter from the Councildirecting you to a website where youcan see the detailed proposals, and letthe Council have your views. If you don’trespond, no action will be taken.
TfL is consulting us on possible routesfor their tram proposal, now called‘Sutton Link’. All the routes go aroundthe one way system, two then travel upAngel Hill and Rose Hill, and on to linkwith the Northern Line, either SouthWimbledon or Colliers Wood. The thirdroute picks up the Sutton/ Wimbledonrail line near Sutton bus garage and onto Wimbledon.
There is also an alternative of a BusRapid Transit on the two Rose Hillroutes. The proposal could cost over£400m, and funding has not yet beenagreed. If it goes ahead, work toconstruct the route will take three yearscommencing in 2022.Please make sure you respond to theconsultation to let TfL know your views- everyone should receive a letter inNovember with the details.

We all know it will be a disaster forBritain. Bad for jobs, the economyand the NHS. It will cost £39 billion, and in return, we will lose access tothe single market and have to followrules from Brussels without a say.
It’s so unpopular, we are now indanger of heading for no deal at all.
The Liberal Democrats demandbetter for Britain. We want people, not politicians, to have the final sayon Brexit, with the option to stay inthe EU. We think YOU shoulddecide the future of our countryand your family.
Following the Council’s decision in October,we are pleased to confirm that CryerArts hasbeen chosen to run the Charles CryerTheatre.
Maintaining an arts and cultural space inSutton has been a priority for the Lib Dem-run Sutton Council and we have pushed hardsince 2016 for the Charles Cryer to be re-opened as a cultural or community venue.
CryerArts is made up of local residents andbusiness people who care deeply about ourlocal community. A major part of the site willbe a new bar and restaurant.
The Cryer will also be able to host a widerange of events such as live music, talks andcommunity functions.
The main source of pollution in ourborough is car emissions and the LibDems are campaigning for publictransport improvements to reduce caruse.
We are working to Sack Southern andhand the franchise to TfL so they can
run more frequent and reliable services, calling for more investment in buses inpoorly served areas, and are workingwith schools to bring in travel plans sothat children learn to use publictransport from a young age.
A key part of improving public transportis extending the tram to Sutton andfollowing a long term campaign, theconsultation on the tram is now live.
Lib Dem MP Tom Brake welcomed thenews: “After years of campaigning, I'mglad to see that we are a step closer tobringing the Tram to Sutton.” Tom said.
Give us a People’s Voteto avoid a no deal Brexit
