For the fifth consecutive time, Leonards Advertising has been appointed as an LGP Approved Contractor on the new LGP719 Media, Advertising and Creative Services Contract panel to provide advertising services to councils across NSW. The new contract sees two previous contracts merged into one: Media Publishers and Advertising Services. This effectively means all newspaper advertising (print and online) now needs to be booked through an approved agency like Leonards to comply with procurement legislation.

It’s not just media Leonards can help you with. There are now four service streams you can access through us without any need to go through a lengthy tender process:

• Media planning and buying – non-campaign and campaign• Advertising – strategy, creative and design • Digital services – website design, social media and digital marketing• Printing management – public notice and marketing collateral

Challenge

Leonards was called upon to help the City of Sydney raise public awareness for their ‘Book A Pick Up’ service. An initiative to ensure less waste is sent to landfill, this free pick up service collects resident’s old furniture, mattresses, white goods, e-waste and more.

Solution

Using a combination of digital display, search, social and native we specifically targeted LGA residents showcasing multiple creatives for each type of pick up – mattress disposal, white goods disposal etc.

Leonards’ ability to implement and then carefully track performance played a crucial part in the campaign’s success. We were able to track results and optimise toward the strongest performers in both channel type and creative execution.

We carefully set up audience segments to ensure we penetrated different mindsets across the very diverse City of Sydney LGA to achieve strong engagement and click through rate. In doing so, we ensured the very best chance for completing a ‘Book A Pick Up’ booking.

Results

An increase of bookings both month on month and year on year (approximately a 25% increase) demonstrated the wider audience we managed to win over to ‘Book a Pick Up’. At the same time, we reduced the average cost per click and cost per conversion.

Challenge

As Sydney’s Central City expands and its population continues to grow, being able to communicate with local residents has never been more crucial for a Council. Through the help of Leonards Advertising, City of Parramatta has been able to do so in an efficient way by leveraging Leonards’ widespread media contacts.

Solution

As a preferred NSW Local Government Procurement supplier, Leonards was able to provide media solutions, at competitive rates, to communicate and inform local constituents across relevant media platforms (print, radio and digital) of recent Council programs, redevelopments, recycling initiatives, etc.

Results

By being a one-stop shop, Leonards is able to aid City of Parramatta with media booking, planning, but more importantly, share City of Parramatta’s vision of becoming the place where people want to be, and will continue to help spread this message across all mediums.

WelcomeAs a proud Councillor and long-standing resident of Parramatta, I am honoured to have been elected Lord Mayor of this great City at last week’s Council Meeting. Having lived in Parramatta for more than 60 years, I am passionate about this City and I look forward to delivering the first-class services and facilities that our residents need. With massive growth and development under way in Parramatta, I am excited to see what the next 12 months will bring. I would also like to acknowledge and thank Cr Andrew Wilson for his two years of service as Lord Mayor of the City of Parramatta. Cr Wilson’s dedication to our City and its residents has been second-to-none, and I look forward to working closely with him as we continue to deliver great outcomes for our community.

Western Sydney Wanderers Season LaunchLast Friday I had the pleasure of attending the launch of the Western Sydney Wanderers 2019–20 Season. This club and team are important to the Parramatta community, and they continue to impress us with their achievements both on and off the field.

On behalf of the City of Parramatta, I wish the Wanderers all the best for the coming season. We are proud to have such a great team representing our City. I look forward to seeing the sea of red and black on game day when the City transforms into Wanderland.

GWS Giants AFL Grand Final The GWS Giants made history on Saturday, being the first ever Western Sydney team to make it to the AFL Grand Final. It was a special moment for the AFL and for Western Sydney. It is an incredible feat for such a young club to make it to the Grand Final following their entry into the AFL in 2012. They may not have taken home the trophy this time, but their achievements throughout this season have made us proud. It is great to have such a strong team representing Western Sydney, and I wish the GWS Giants all the best for future seasons.

Challenge

South Western Sydney Councils are experiencing significant recruitment challenges arising from unprecedented LGA growth and turnover. Campbelltown in particular has reached out to Leonards with the simple brief to help ensure the right candidates see their advertisements and the IT for media and recruitment to be made as efficient as possible.

Solution

Leonards in conjunction with other providers – Council Jobs and Blackadder – held education sessions for South West Councils to help raise understanding of the products and best practice processes.

Leonards also made significant upgrades to its recruitment software eziJob after meeting with Campbelltown HR officers to help them process volume more efficiently. Major changes included:

• Easy cull selection facility – useful for roles of >200 applicants• Improved source reporting • Enhanced emailing features for improved corporate communication

One key and unique advantage of working with Leonards is that the client has direct access to the programmers and therefore can have bespoke solutions for their Council.

Results

A streamlined recruitment process providing visibility of each step in the recruitment journey. The next step being developed is building a fully integrated database communications marketing platform with quality applicants already “Owned” and identified by CCC and labelled in eziJob.

Challenge

With a population of over 170,000 people, and 3,822 km of metro and rural land area, The Hills Shire Council faces a massive challenge in regularly communicating local news and events to all their residents. Council approached Leonards in 2016 to project manage the print and distribution of the seasonal magazine, Focus – a free magazine with Council news releases, Mayor’s weekly message, public notices and development applications for The Hills LGA.

Solution

There are over 61,000 copies printed for each edition so Leonards has streamlined the process to include delivery timeline, print booking, client liaison, quality and pre-flight checks at each point of the process.

Once the publication is printed it is then delivered to our distributors in metro and rural. Our metro distributors provide GPS tracking and reporting throughout the delivery period and our rural supplier is a small team who hand deliver the magazine from a motorbike. If any issue arises during this process Leonards is the first point of contact and endeavours to resolve the issue before Council is involved. Council at all times is kept abreast of any issues which helps if they receive any direct feedback from residents.

Results

Over 61,000 copies of Focus magazine are now printed and delivered on schedule to the families and members of the Hills community within the Council each quarter.

Challenge

Waverley Council required a tourism site to act as a virtual tourism information centre. The site would be the default landing page after connecting to the free WiFi which was being rolled out across Bondi Beach, Bondi Junction and surrounding Eastern Suburbs.

Solution

To ensure Council would be able to easily update the website once it had been created, Leonards recommended the site be built using WordPress. WordPress allows for a large collection of plug-ins to be implemented. This meant we were able to provide complex designs and functions to the site without affecting usability while still being easy for website novices to make minor changes and updates.

The site has the capability of integrating with a number of services useful to tourists in the area and accommodates a comfortable viewing experience on any device due to the mobile-first approach adopted. Users are able to view under the main navigation things to “See & Do” featuring “Coastal Walks”, “Places of Interest”, “Sports and Leisure” and “What’s On”. All activities and amenities can be readily located on an interactive map under “Explore”. Under “Visit & Stay” local knowledge and accommodation is available for visitors to the region.

Results

Over a million users have now accessed and used www.hellobondi.com.au with continuing upgrades by Council staff keeping the site fresh and appealing.

Challenge

Run a campaign for Northern Beaches Council to publicly thank their volunteers and through increased community awareness, encourage others to also volunteer.

Solution

Our approach was simple, we targeted high-density zones where Council’s volunteers reside ensuring Council’s appreciation was seen. Keeping the campaign local, we were able to maximise the budget and advertise on display screens in shopping centres across Stockland Balgowlah, Warringah Mall and Warriewood. In addition, and as ferries are frequently used in the area by locals, we took the opportunity to promote on digital-display screens at Manly Wharf. By keeping the advertising to these hot spots, Leonards was able to help Northern Beaches Council thank their community where it matters most – home.

Results

With a variety of creative executions thanking WIRES, cyclists who left their cars at home, residents who installed solar panels, and more, there were a lot of messages to communicate. By using predominantly digital screens, we were able to have each message on rotation so no message missed out and kept the campaign cost-effective within budget. Widespread visibility of the campaign was achieved with the local newspaper and social media picking up on the importance of volunteering.
