Prayer of Invocation/Confession
Almighty God, we rejoice in this
opportunity to worship, to have our
hearts lifted and our minds opened to
hear the Word. You created us in Your
own image. You have walked with us
throughout the days of the past and
the present. Today, we are amazed at
Your steadfast mercy and grace. We
bow in reverence, and obedience, and
we seek to honor You in all the
choices we make. Let us not grow
weary in well-doing, but instead, help
us to be faithful to You in every
endeavor to which You call us. We lift
up, to You, those who are suffering in
mind or in body. May they feel Your
Presence as we pray. Thank You for
Your Power and may Your name be
praised forever and ever. Amen.
In the morning, O Lord, You hear my
voice; in the morning I lay my requests
before You and wait in expectation.
Enter His Gates With Praise Page 2
OFFERTORY PRAYER
Our Generous Father, increase our
faith, open our hearts that they may
discover the joy of giving. Even our
best giving is small when compared
to what You have given to us. Yet, we
offer our tithes, mission gifts and
sacrificial offerings today, knowing
that You will multiply them as You
always have. We believe that through
what we bring today, multitudes will
be blessed. So in faith we give in
Jesus' name. Amen.
“For you know the grace of our Lord
Jesus Christ, that though he was rich,
yet for your sakes he became poor, so
that you through his poverty might
become rich.” 2 Corinthians 8:9
DEBIT CARD GIVING
You can worship the Lord with your
tithes and offerings by also using

Thank God for the church! May I remind you today that we are like a body. Every
part of the body is significant and every body part plays its role in the body's total
health! Every person in the church is unique, and essential, in fulfilling God's work in
this world. We are called to “do” ministry. We are all "gifted" to fulfill our God-given
tasks, and we also have a choice. We can be responsible or we can be irresponsible in
our unique places in the Kingdom. Church can be so exciting and fulfilling. Thank God
for this church!
Think on the following, for a minute: Are you just sitting in the stands, cheering? Or,
are you out on the field playing the game?

A Brief History of New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church
In 1924 a few officers and members of Mount Beulah, banded together and organized a church
which they named Mount Lebanon Baptist Church. Two ministers worked together in the
organization of the church. This small faithful group of people purchased a lot at 20470
Wisconsin in Detroit. More people moved into the area, joined Mount Lebanon Baptist
Church and the name was changed to First Baptist Church.
Reverend Smith served as Pastor until 1929. Reverend Theodore Williams served from 1931
until 1935. The church called Reverend Pyles who served about three years and rebuilt First
Baptist. He was unable to finish rebuilding the church because God called him from labor to
reward. Reverend Sandy Gibson, who was the assistant to Reverend Pyles, carried out his
term and was elected for a short period in 1939.
Reverend Charles B. Heath was called as pastor in the spring of 1939. Much was
accomplished under Reverend Heath’s administration. Due to the fact that there were two
churches in Detroit with the same name, Reverend Heath had the church change its name from
First Baptist to New Prospect Baptist Church on January 7, 1945.
In 1953 the church voted to enlarge their present building. The members were supportive of
this effort and contributed considerably. In March 1960, the members borrowed ten thousand
dollars and made the down payment to purchase the 6330 Pembroke building. Reverend Heath
pastored the church for twenty eight (28) years until his death in 1967.
In February 1968, the church called Reverend Dr. S. Leon Whitney from Jackson, Mississippi.
Under his pastoral leadership an addition to the Pembroke Property was made and the facilities
were expanded to its current structure. There was much growth under Reverend Whitney until
his death in December 1990. His son, Reverend Dr. Keith L. Whitney assumed the pastoral
leadership from 1991 until 1996. Reverend Randolph F. Henlon who was the Assistant Pastor
at the time served as Interim Pastor from 1996 until March 1999.
On March 1, 1999, history was made in Detroit. Reverend Wilma Robena Johnson, a female
assistant pastor at Hartford Memorial Baptist Church, was elected Senior Pastor of New
Prospect Missionary Baptist Church. A new light appeared in the community.
THIS IS THE CHURCH WHERE THE SPIRIT OF UNITY ABIDES.
THIS IS THE CHURCH WHERE THE VISION LIVES AND SHINES!

Our Stewardship Months: October, November and December, 2013
Our Stewardship Goal: $150,000.00 (Thank you for giving $85,000.00 in October, 2012)
I shared my concerns at our church meeting in September. Please pray for God's work within this faith community as
you discern how you will support this ministry. Prayer is perhaps the most effective way for us to increase our faith and bring us into closer communion with our God.
Pray and ask God to use you. I am committed to joyfully leading our church in accomplishing our goal.
I am committed to making an impact in the Kingdom of God. God needs your help and we need your help.
Thank you for your Faith Giving today!
As of October 26, 2013 – We have received $13,324.71
