My chosen idea

• My chosen idea is a short film where a young photographer spots something mysterious in one of his photos he takes. Him and a friend then proceed back to location where the photo is taken, when they arrive they come across a character who then proceeds to chase them.

The Genre

• The aim of thriller films is to “thrill” the audience, this is usually achieved with high suspense, mystery and intellectual puzzles for the audience to solve.

• I have chosen the genre of thriller for several reasons. One reason is that given the limited time and budget I have, this genre will deliver the best results.

Camera

• For the film I will shoot mostly on a DSLR and a Go Pro, the Go Pro gives a wide range of shots available due to it’s small size and durability.

• The other shots will not be handheld and will be shot on a tripod, and with use of a dolly for tracking shots.

• The camera will be used for several close ups, on some occasions both cameras will be used to optimise the efficiency of the shoot.

Editing

• A non-linear storyline will allow for disc-continuity editing to take place, as the film wills start in the middle of the action,.

• Fast cuts will be used at the end and beginning of the film as this will create more anticipation and tension for both the audience and the characters

Sound

• In the film there will be both diegetic and non-diegetic sound.

• Dialogue will be spoken within the film which will be recorded on a mic, furthermore there will be a fast paced score during the chase scene.

• Due to the nature of the location ambient sounds of birds and nature will be involved but edited in post-production.

Characters

• There will be there characters in my film.

• Bradley- The photographer who discovers the odd image

• Dan- The friend who helps out

• Unknown- The character who chases them through the location

Costumes

• Both Bradley and Dan will have basic costumes, which are that of normal clothes of boys there age. They will be wearing coats due to the cold weather.

Location

• The film will mostly be shot a Farnborough lake, this is where the man act of the film will take place. Other filming locations will be in a car and in a house in Middleton Cheney.

• All these locations are easily accessible to me and the cast.

Props • The props used in this film will be:

Distribution

• The distribution of my film will very likely be small.

• Unlike some thriller films that are distributed on a larger scale my film will only be distributed online on websites such as Vimeo, Shortoftheweek and blogger.

Target Audience• The target audience for my film

will be young adults aged from 16-30.

• Fans of this genre are usually males as they stereotypically have interests around crime, action and suspense.

• My research shows that audiences under the age of 18 rated David Finchers Panic Room higher than viewers over 18
