1 THE STATISTICS

Even with all the awareness campaigns led by the

government and other groups, drunk driving

remains the first cause of fatal road accidents in

Canada. In fact, in 2006, drunk driving was the

cause of 37% of fatal accidents and of 20% of

accidents causing injuries, resulting in 1 278 deaths

and 75 374 injured people. The social cost of D.U.I.-

related accidents comes to a hefty 500 million

Canadian dollars.

Every night, in Canada, 25% of drivers are driving

under the influence: incredible, isn’t it?

Of course, with the help of the dozens of awareness

campaigns led by different groups and the legal

B.A.C.* limit passing from 0.08% to 0.05% Canada

has gained significant control over D.U.I. offenders.

The costs of compensations given to D.U.I. victims is

estimated around 100 million Canadian dollars per

province. Men aged over 25 years with an average

B.A.C. of 0.17% (more than 3 times the actual legal

limit) represent the majority of drivers who die.

As you can see, the situation is a lot more dramatic

than it may seem. There is a lot left to do to reduce

these alarming numbers and it is for this reason that

we wish to make alcohol detectors available to

everyone. In fact, everyone knows when they have

reached an advanced state of drunkenness but very

few know when they reach the legal limit of 0.05%.

It is with this line of thought that we wish to

develop one of the most lucrative markets:

licensed establishments.

The law imposes a limit of 0.05% but consumers

need instruments to measure their B.A.C.. Could you

even think of respecting the 100km/h limit on the

road without an odometer?

Date-rape drug use is a growing concern in Canada. In fact, since 1999, the seizures of GHB – one of the most

commonly used date-rape drugs – went up by 400%. Our product, the Drink Detective, can detect GHB along

with ketamine and more than 60 drugs in the benzodiazepine group. The deterrence program we are promoting

with it aims at reducing the number of abuses and abusers. About 15% of rapes that are declared are the result

of ‘’drink spiking’’. The numbers are small compared to what is actually happening on the bar scene as

approximately 9 out of 10 assaults are not reported. Alco Prevention Canada is the only distributor of a device

such as the Drink Detective in Canada and you could be part of it.

Substance abuse in the workplace is taking more importance in our society as 200 000 Canadians were

addicted to illicit drugs in 2002. In a survey, nearly a quarter of the worked interviewed said they believed that

the use of illicit drugs in their workplace represented a moderate to alarming problem. What Alco Prevention is

aiming at is providing the business owners with the tools to detect those drugs in their employees’ systems so

they can help them deal with their addiction as well as setting up an effective deterrence program in the

The Drink Detective™ is the only test in the world that detects the most commonly abused drugs that are used to spike drinks for the purpose of rape, robbery or other crimes.

The test detects the presence of the following drugs when dissolved in a drink: gamma hydroxybuturate (GHB). Ketamine and the more than 60 drugs in the benzodiazepine group that includes Rohypnol®, Valium®, Xanax® and Clonopin®.

The Drink Detective looks for traces of the three most commonly used groups of drug- rape drugs: Benzodiazepines (including Rohypnol, Valium and Xanax), GHB (gamma-hydroxyl-butyrate), and ketamine. The Drink Detective is the first test that will detect the presence of three drug types in a wide range of drinks; and will detect them at quantities that can incapacitate you.

No one expects a woman to test every drink. In fact, we recommend using the Drink Detective only in two circumstances: if you have a reason to suspect that your drink has been spiked or if you have a stronger than expected reaction to a drink. The drugs take about 20 minutes to incapacitate you and if you find that a drink has been spiked, you would have time to get help—either from a friend or from bar staff who could call the police and ensure that you were not left alone until you got to safety.

If everyone carried a Drink Detective when drinking—in public or at a private event, drink spikers would think

twice about carrying out their foul crime. Deterrence is the key.

How does the test work?

Just unfold the test card and, with the dropper provided, deposit a drop of your drink on each of the testing
