  • CIC NEWS

Following the highly successful Hawaiian Luau and

Pancake Breakfast , the CIC is deep into the task of

planning the social event of the year, cuisines of the world. Chairmen have been appointed and brains are perking. Now ALL WE NEED is help

from you. We know there are good cooks from all the

countries in the United Nations in New Horizons. Get

involved; show off your native country’s cuisine. Just

call Barbara Bowman at 1 310 325 6292 to volunteer.

With your help we can bring an unparalleled culinary

experience to New Horizons, as well as make new

friends and, not any less important, contribute to the

club dedicated to the improvement of our neighbor-

    hood.

And don’t miss the next CIC meeting at 7:00 pm on

February 27th in the Clubhouse lounge. Help yourself

to a cup of coffee, grab a cookie, buy a ticket to the

50/50 raffle and join a group of active, friendly people.

    See you there.

    INTRODUCING A NEW RECYCLING PROGRAM

The Grounds Maintenance Committee has been working

with our NH trash service, Republic, to start a recycling

program. This program will be in addition to the Con-

servation Club's First Friday of the Month Recycle

    Program.

Currently, there is one white recycling bin located at the

far end of Access 1. The plan is to install two more bins:

one in Access 7 and the second in Access 9. These loca-

tions will be monitored to determine the success of the

program, and additional bins will be added as needed.

Residents will be able to recycle cardboard, shredded pa-

per, glass bottles, telephone books and much more. By

increasing our recycling efforts, we will reduce our trash

    collection.

Residents will be kept posted as this important program

is implemented. In the near future, our Account Rep at

Republic plans to address residents' questions.

It was Valentine’s Day so we waltzed around

the course. The best waltzers were Megill, Mori and

Weber with a score of 105.7. The free player

was Barbara Bowman. We’re still looking for more

players. The weather is spring-like and

the course is in great shape. Beginners and experts

are more than welcome. Come and join us.

  • TRAVEL CLUB UPDATE. 2/22/'13 : Ed Reilly,

Club New Horizons Chairman Phone: 326-4710

On Saturday, March 23, we will be going to the Glen-

dale Center Theater to see the award winning show

“Crazy for You.” (This is a replacement trip to take the

place of the Getty Villa trip we had to cancel due to

lack of signups.) This riotously entertaining show is a

romantic musical comedy filled with a number of

George and Ira Gershwin’s classic songs. “Crazy for

You” won the 1992 Tony Award for best musical and

the Laurence Olivier award for best musical revival.

We’ve seen several plays at the Glendale and each one

has been a winner. Lunch will be at the Outback Steak

House. The cost for this exceptionally entertaining af-

ternoon is $77.00 per person with 38 or more or $85.00

with 29 to 37 folks. The signup sheet is on the board.

When you sign up, we ask that you also make your

meal selection. Choices are: Sirloin steak, Chicken,

Salmon or a veggie plate. We’ll be leaving at 10:00

AM and returning at 5:00 PM. Let’s make this trip a

    go.

In April we are taking a cruise to Hawaii. The dates

are April 10 through the 24th

. At our February 7 meet-

ing we were fortunate to have one of our travel agents,

Jo Tuzzolino of All Stars Travel, give us an over view

of the trip. She was able to give us answers to a num-

ber of questions pertaining to the cruise that members

had. We sail round trip from San Pedro on the Golden

Princess. Of course we visit all four islands. (We even

spend a few hours in Ensenada, Mexico. Don’t forget

your Passport.) If you would like to go, give Ed Reilly

a call at (310) 326-4710 and we will have the club

make your reservations for you. We will need to know

your name, who you wish to room with and whether

you desire a stateroom with a balcony, a room with an

ocean view or, perhaps, a mini suite. This will tell us

how many cabins we need to have blocked and in what

category. Once we determine what type of accommo-

dations are desired, we can move forward and price ac-

cording to individual desires. You are also free to

make your own arrangements assuming you have a spe-

cific travel agency you like to use. Again, the ship is

the Golden Princess and the dates are April 10-24,

2013. I’ve just learned of an extra incentive for you

men and women who might be veterans. The cruise

line is offering a $250 shipboard credit in addition to

other incentives if you are a vet. It makes no difference

when you served. To be eligible, you only need to

submit a copy of your discharge papers (DD-214) or a

copy of your military retirement papers. If you have

any questions, please give Ed Reilly a call.
