Surround Format FlexibilityNeve 88D is a multiple format, open architecture, console. Formats can be handled simultaneously whether stereo and 5.1, or 6.1 and 7.1 for Blu Ray, HD DVD and DST. Simplicity and VersatilityEase of operation is central to 88D’s design. Conventional channel strips with touch sensitive illuminated logicators are a very simple and direct method of control. A knob per function centre panel aids sweet spot mixing. A “small fader” path and a simple layer structure give easy access to large numbers of channels.

The clearly laid out monitoring panel gives direct access to multiple internal and external sources in any surround format. The powerful automation system and ergonomic console surface are totally enmeshed enabling control linking and grouping in a uniquely mixer friendly style.

The totality of control makes the Neve 88D an incredibly powerful and versatile console – capable of handling multiple sessions in multiple formats with different external equipment and production requirements. And all with the unique Neve Sound.

System Wide ControlIntegration through automation is key to efficient workflow. 88D can import and combine mixes from Pro ToolsTM and other Encore Plus systems. The 88D surface seamlessly moves between conventional console and HUI controller for workstations. Faders and logicators control DAW parameters, the patented logicators give instant and elegant visual feedback.

Scrolling Waveforms and High Resolution MeteringHi resolution TFTs give comprehensive visual feedback allowing the mixer to see the desk at a glance. Meter scales can be set to suit the mixer’s preference or the client’s requirements. Channel meters can show EQ and dynamics as well as routing, level and “small fader path” level. Main meter sections show internal and external surround sources, stems, groups, auxiliaries and masters.

WavTrak gives the mixer direct visual feedback on audio flow, something editors have taken for granted for many years. Each channel meter strip gives a real time display of incoming audio. Scrolling waveforms and a “now” line combine perfectly with the channel meters.

4 SPEAKER SETSThree surround (large, small 1 & small 2) speaker sets and a stereo mix speaker set are provided with the ability to apply trims for each speaker and set and lock the S, LS/RS and LE/RE to a particular speaker set.Speaker features for music, film or broadcast applications.

AFL MONITOR CONTROLThe AFL system provides independent level control from the main monitors, and a special control called ‘Solo In Front’ which allows in-context mixing were the balance between the soloed sources and the rest of the mix to be adjusted. The SOLO CLEAR cancels all SOLO functions.

LS CUTSThe LS cuts can either be individually muted or all the LS cuts can be muted with the mainCUT key. The LS solo inverts the operation allowing the selection to be soloed.

CONTROL ROOM VOLUMEThe volume contol knob can either be controlled by the high precision large rotary knob or any of the faders in the master section.

CALIBRATION SETUPThe CAL I/P allows the various speaker-set outputs to be individually calibrated by using the monitor cuts and trimming the individual gains with the speaker trim control.

MONITOR SOURCE SELECTIONMains, group, aux and cues, the 2x2 track mixers the stem panel and up to 32 external digital or analogue sources can be selected. The keys here access the 16 key monitor selector above to show the available sources on the alpha display.

REDUCTIONSThe ability to monitor the mix via format reduction from 7.1 down to stereo. The parameters used to perform the reduction can be tailored via a screen.

MONITOR INSERTSThe ability to insert various analogue or digital encoder/decoder devices into the monitor path.

MONITOR SELECTORThe 16 key monitor selection allows the user to have individual labels for easy identification of monitor sources.

STUDIO LS MONITORINGThe SLS monitor provides level control and selection of external or internal sources, or the 2 track playbacks to be fed into the studio. The SLS2 key selects an alternative studio to be fed independently.

MONITOR HEADPHONESThe monitor headphones controls provide level and monitor source selection either from a patch or the monitor selector to be fed into the control room monitor headphones.

RETURN TALKBACKThe RTB system allws a number of talkbacks from various studios to be fed into the studio monitoring path. Maximum talback flexibility is provided for audio, film & broadcast applications.

SOLO MODESThe SAFE keys isolate the channel or monitor path from the solo. The solo I/L key switches the operation of the solo keys from momentary to latching to interlocked.
