2 THE COMPANY

Nera-Tec is a young, Austrian company which develops technologies based on water. The focus of our current development activities is currently set on biotechnology with innovative products relating to disinfection of water, resource saving application of water as well as enrichment of vital substances via water-bearing systems. These products can be used in a wide range of applications and are currently mainly used in economic sectors such as agriculture, cleaning technology as well as drinking water and process water treatment.

To be able to cope with the many different requirements of clients, Nera-Tec not only provides loose liquids and dispersions (Nera-Desinfect and Nera-Solution series) but also offers its own series of devices (Nera-Devices) for production of liquids and a wide range of service packages for professional and seamless support of our clients.

3 MOTIVATION

In the context of globalization and industrialization processes of the past decades, the need for disinfectants and disinfection methods has steadily been growing bigger. Today we are confronted with fundamental challenges in this market:

1. The massive use of antibiotics and specialized disinfecting agents as well as their improper usage has led to more and more resistances of microorganisms.

2. The massive application of disinfecting chemicals puts great strain on the environment and organisms. Regulating agencies all over the world discuss the restriction of usage of dangerous chemicals.

3. The spreading of pathogens becomes wider and faster due to the ever growing interconnection of the world. Authorities and international organizations search for new concepts for the containment of the pathogens.

4. Highly specialized industries see the rising need for controlled production environments. This goes hand in hand with the control of contaminations through micro particles and microorganisms.

The market and society are both looking for approaches to solutions which

5 BIOLOGIC DISINFECTION FROM NATURE

An „ideal“ product for control of microbes should fulfill the following principles:

1. The antimicrobial agent should possess a wide spectrum of antimicrobial activity.

2. An effective elimination of bacteria, mycobacteria, viruses, fungi and spores regardless of the duration and frequency of application and is required which ultimately means that the product has properties which prevent microorganisms from forming resistances.

3. The antimicrobial agent must be safe for humans and animals concerning production as well as transport, storage and usage. This means that the agent and its natural decomposition products, which develop due to influences of environmental factors or processes in living beings, should not comprise xenobiotics.

Nature has formed an antimicrobial protection, which has been active in the internal setting of humans and animals throughout millions of years without ever having failed its purpose.

Within fractions of a second a highly oxidative cocktail of oxygen-, hydrogen- and chlorine-based radicals is formed in the small volume of phagosomes in immune cells through decomposition reactions and transformations.

The following figure schematically shows how the cocktail of active agents is used to render pathogenic microbes harmless in the phagosomes of immune cells.

The metastable mixture of components of the cocktail of active agents, which are formed during the phagocytosis of immune cells, destroys very efficiently microorganisms because there exists a magnitude of possibilities for spontaneous combination of agents for induction of irreversible damage to vital functions at the level of electron transfer reactions. Because of the complex physicochemical properties of the cocktail of agents, microbes are not able to form resistances.

At the same time, multicellular living beings such as humans and animals, are protected from the mechanism of action of the cocktail of agents due to fundamental differences in the structure and living conditions of somatic cells. Somatic cells possess powerful chemical systems for antioxidant protection, which save them from the effect of the cocktail of radicals.

6 NATURAL PRODUCTS BIOLOGICAL

Nera-Tec makes use of the above mentioned mode of action from nature. Our production process is guided by processes which nature has developed throughout millions of years for the combat against microorganisms. Our body is using such defense mechanisms million-fold every single second. The production of Nera liquids can thus be seen as a biomimetic procedure which takes up the idea of mode of action and protection of multicellular living beings and delivers nature-based, biological disinfecting liquids.

Therefore, our products are organic and totally harmless in toxicological terms.

ECOLOGICAL & ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY The products of the Nera-Desinfect and Nera-Solution series are totally water-based and contain around 99,5% water. They are environmentally friendly (ecologically harmless) and are 100% biologically degradable.

Our disinfectants are

• free from alcohol • free from aldehydes • free from phenols • free from solvents • colorless • free from additives • antiallergic and • pH-neutral.

Our basic components, disinfectants and decomposition products are totally harmless from the ecological point of view. The product originates from natural products like water and salt in presence of electrical fields and decomposes ultimately into water, salt and oxygen.

SAFE & EASY Since the basic components, products and decomposition products are

• ecologically and biologically harmless, • not flammable, • not explosive and • not dangerous to health

there is secure and easy

• transport, • storage, • production, • usage, • disposal, • personal protective measures as well as • environmental protective measures

in case of correct application. There is no need for protective clothing in case of proper handling of liquids. Post treatment and cleaning after application of the disinfectant is not necessary.

Multicellular living beings like humans and animals are – as discussed above – protected from the mode of action of our disinfectants by complex antioxidant protection systems.

On the basis of the calculation method in (EG) Nr. 1272/2008 (CLP act) in the most recent valid version, the product is not classified as hazardous

substance and therefore is not subject to marking. Special security measures do not apply.

The product is no hazardous substance according to ordinance of hazardous substances (GefStVo).

There exists no water hazard class.

7 ECONOMICAL PRODUCTS EFFECTIVE, BROADBAND & NO RESISTENCES

The Nera products are highly efficient against

• bacteria (bactericidal) • spores (sporocidal) • fungi (fungicidal and levurocidal) und • viruses (virucidal).

Moreover, Nera products are highly effective for removal of biofilms. Mould spots and odours are efficiently combatted.

Due to the unique and highly oxidizing cocktail of active agents, which is produced and stabilized by an electrochemical process and which cannot be reproduced by common chemical methods, microorganisms are rendered harmless

• broadband • fast & secure • without resistances.

The action potential of such liquids can be displayed and quantified by a worldwide renowned physical measurement method, the determination of the oxidation-reduction-potential (ORP).

The following figure shows the ORP in relation to the pH-value and envisions a „survival sphere“ for microorganisms. Within the blue area,

microorganisms are able to survive. The limits for survival needs to be assessed for every group of microbes individually though.

Due to the highly oxidative power of the cocktail of active agents, Nera products deliver an environment which lies far outside and beyond this biosphere (see the orange dot as an example). Therefore bacteria are neither to survive nor can they form resistances.

The disinfecting activity of our products hast been confirmed by in vitro tests (screening) in accordance with the “Requirements and methods for VAH-certification of chemical disinfection processes” (2015).

9 NERA-DESINFECT WATER

INTRODUCTION The waterworks deliver drinking water into every home. Thereby the strict legal regulations of the food law and the drinking water directive are guaranteed.

However, not always does the qualitatively immaculate drinking water reach the end user in his house. Often drinking water contamination due to microorganisms is the reason for limited usability of the resource water. Microbiological loads such as bacteria, viruses, fungi and spores in the drinking water installation system or in the drinking water treatment facilities often endanger the health of the inhabitants. Bacterial strains such as E. coli, Campylobacter, Salmonella, Legionella und Listeria as well as persistent biofilms, which can often be found in pipelines, are every once in a while, responsible for incidents in the drinking water as well as process water supply and in the food and beverage industry, respectively.

Big properties and apartment houses, hotels, hospitals and retirement homes as well as sports facilities, indoor aquatic centers and public or industrial objects are especially affected by such problems.

FIELDS OF APPLICATION Drinking Water Disinfection

By specific, permanent dosing of smallest amounts of Nera-Desinfect Drinking Water into the drinking water, the water can permanently be kept germ-free.

The application as well as necessary control procedures and dosing rates need to be metrologically controlled case-by-case and applied according to country-specific drinking water directives. The control procedures are in accordance with common industrial standards and comprise measurement parameters such as pH, ORP, FACs, conductivity and more.

In contrast to common drinking water disinfection procedures a) the disinfection effect is enhanced by a metastable cocktail of highly oxidizing active constituents and b) no dangerous (toxic, flammable, explosive) basic components need to be handled.

Degradation of Biofilms

Biofilms are formed in aqueous systems if microorganisms start to colonize on boundaries. The biofilm itself consists, beside the therein living bacteria, of a hydrogel which is composed from water and extracellular polymeric substances (polysaccharides, proteins, lipids, nucleic acids) which the microorganisms themselves excrete. The slime-like matrix of the biofilms serves as protection, biosphere and culture medium for bacteria. Through metabolic activity in biofilms, corrosive processes of the substrates con be initiated and promoted, respectively. One talks about microbially influenced corrosion (MIC). The activity of sulphidogene bacteria especially needs to be mentioned in this regard.

The process of biofilm formation (=Micro-Biofouling) as well as MIC can lead to high costs in private, commercial, public and industrial infrastructure. Therefore, there exists a high demand of procedures and active substance which can efficiently kill and decompose biofilms.

Research has shown that microorganisms, which grow in biofilms, exhibit significantly higher resistances against most, to this date, known antimicrobial active agents. Methods, which avert formation of biofilms or kill and decompose existing biofilms, are in great demand.

Many biocides and antibiotics need to be applied in large doses to deliver no more than moderate success concerning the fight against biofilms.

These substances are often ecologically and toxicologically critical and little is known about the biological degradability of those biocides in natural water systems.

For total killing and decomposition of biofilms with Nera-Desinfect Water only permanent dosing of the disinfecting liquid according to country-specific drinking water directives for drinking water disinfection is necessary. The cocktail of active agents of Nera products enters the biofilm, kills bacteria and leads – in contrast to common methods – to a total decomposition of biofilms.

Furthermore, permanent dosing makes sure that no further build-up of biofilm is possible. It is, however, necessary that the decomposition of biofilm be accompanied metrologically since the dying and detaching of biofilm can temporarily lead to increased bacterial counts.

The application as well as necessary control procedures and dosing rates need to be metrologically controlled case-by-case and applied according to country-specific drinking water directives.

Fight against Legionella

Legionella was first discovered in 1976 when participants of a congress of the American Legion in Philadelphia fell severely ill with an until then unknown bacteria named Legionella pneumophila. Out of 4000 participants, 182 fell ill with severe pneumonia and 29 deaths were registered.

The disease became well known as legionnaires’ disease. The inhalation of pathogen-loaded, respirable aerosols was identified as the main path of infection. Therefore, especially showers but also aerosols from faucets pose safety hazards. Moreover, legionella progressively take on greater significance in pools where, next to whirlpools, systems such as artificial waterfalls, fountains and slides with water spraying or sprinkling tools play a bigger role. Furthermore, transfer of legionella is also possible via aerosols from cooling towers and air conditioning systems.

Legionella normally live in water and grow ideally in warm conditions (e.g. hot water tank). The pipelines of bigger buildings such as hotel complexes, residential complexes, hospitals or public facilities offer excellent conditions for growth. Breeding places for legionella are biofilms for instance. They are preferably built up where large surface areas exist as for example in filters or on calcareous deposits, sludges or corrosion products. Within these biofilms, legionella are effectively protected from disinfectants by mucus that is produced by themselves.

Nera-Desinfect Water efficiently fights build-up of legionella.

The German drinking water directive (TrinkwV 2001), for instance, prescribes in its most recent valid version (March 10th 2016) a periodic duty to examine existence of legionella. This concerns all entrepreneurs and other owners of drinking water installations with large-scale plants for drinking water heating if the drinking water is used commercially and/or publicly and spraying or sprinkling of the water (e.g. showers) takes place.

Hospitals, schools, kindergartens, hotels and foster homes for instance are regarded as public operators of large-scale plants for drinking water heating. These institutions are obliged that they are once in a year tested for legionella at several different, representative sampling points. Since 2011 there also exists an inspection obligation for other groups, among them owners/tenants of apartment buildings, housing associations and property management companies. These institutions are obliged to comply with examination intervals of 3 years.

12 NERA-SOLUTION ANIMALS

INTRODUCTION Nera Solution Animal and Nera Solution Water have been created for a wide range of applications in the agricultural sector.

In general, those liquids in their pure form serve as disinfectats and hygieniziation products for liquids, living beings and surfaces of diverse nature.

For applications concerning bees, however, a new concept has been developed. The combination of Nera-Solution and fine-grained zeolite ensures an ideal effect on the treated bees.

FIELDS OF APPLICATION Nera-Solution Animals is suited, among others, for the following purposes:

Nera-Solution Animals for agriculture is very versatile:

Indoor air

Removal of harmful pathogens from indoor air

Animal Diseases and Infections

Treatment of problems with offals such as respiratory, digestive or skin diseases. The liquid can be used for drinking purposes, food preparation or spraying solutions for animals that show symptoms of such diseases. The improvement can normally be expected within 24 hours. One can name diarrhea as an example.

Other possible application possibilities are the treatment of hoof diseases as well as udder and uterine infections.

Animal Products

Example 1: Treatment of fresh eggs. It is recommended to wash the eggs or lay them in the liquid for around 2 minutes and let them dry afterwards. Studies show that the disinfectant can remove microbes such as Staphylococcus Aureus, Salmonella Tiphymurium und Pseudomonas Aeruginosa and thereby prolong the storability of the eggs.

Example 2: Bacterial load of milk. Due to preventive treatment of bovine udders or treatment during infections the number of bacteria in the milk can be significantly reduced.

The disinfection of the breeding environment can either be accomplished by simple washing or by spraying/misting. Studies have shown that spraying is more efficient, especially with large surface areas.

Since the liquid is not toxic, there is no need to remove the poultry during the disinfection process. The procedure needs to be repeated regularly.

ORGANIC AGRICULTURE The regulation (EC) No 834/2007 of 28 June 2007 as well as regulation (EC) No 889/2008 of 5 September 2008 laying down rules for the implementation and implementing regulation 2016/673 of 29 April 2016 on organic production and labelling of organic products contain specific guidelines for organic livestock production.

With the exception of vaccinations, treatments for parasites and compulsory eradication schemes where an animal or group of animals

receive more than three courses of treatments with chemically-synthesized allopathic veterinary medicinal products or antibiotics within 12 months, or more than one course of treatment if their productive lifecycle is less than one year, the livestock concerned, or produce derived from them, may not be sold as organic products.

As a preventive measure as well as for treatment of diseases and infections, Nera-Solution Animals can be used as a biological and ecological alternative to chemically-synthesized veterinary medicinal products or antibiotics.

In contrast to chemically-synthesized veterinary medicinal products or antibiotics, Nera-Solution Animals is completely water-based and consists of 99.5 % water. It is ecologically and biologically completely harmless since it is produced from ordinary salt and water only and decomposes into hon-hazardous substances water, salt and oxygen again after application. Nera-Solution Animals is therefore 100% biologically degradable and is perfectly applicable and fit for organic agriculture.

On the basis of the calculation method in (EG) Nr. 1272/2008 (CLP act) in the most recent valid version, the product is not classified as hazardous substance and therefore is not subject to marking. Special security measures do not apply.

13 NERA-SOLUTION PLANTS

INTRODUCTION Nera Solution Animal and Nera Solution Water have been created for a wide range of applications in the agricultural sector.

In general, those liquids in their pure form serve as disinfectats and hygieniziation products for liquids, living beings and surfaces of diverse nature.

In addition to this, Nera-Tec has developed a new, more efficient concept for the application directly on plants. The combination of Nera-Solution with fine-grained zeolite ensures an ideal effect on treated plants. On the one hand the solution leads to enhanced attachment of the liquid on the plants which distinctly improves the disinfection efficacy. On the other hand, the fine-grained zeolite, due to its high mineral content and its extremely high surface area, which ensures an ideal nutrient release, is an excellent supplier of vital substances for the plants. In this way, growth of plants is even further promoted and resistability against diseases and infections is greatly enhanced.

ORGANIC AGRICULTURE The regulation (EC) No 834/2007 of 28 June 2007 as well as regulation (EC) No 889/2008 of 5 September 2008 laying down rules for the implementation and implementing regulation 2016/673 of 29 April 2016 on organic production and labelling of organic products contain specific guidelines for organic plant production.

Organic plant production does not use monocultures. Moreover, the use of chemically synthesized products such as fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, artificial fertilizers, growth regulators and antibiotics as well as genetically engineered means and products is not permitted.

In middle Europe, we predominantly need to deal with humid climate. Therefore, it is very hard to cultivate fruit and vegetables without fungicides. In case of guidelines of organic agriculture, no artificial fungicides are allowed. Only copper and Sulphur compounds (sometimes also plant oil & lecithin) are applied. Copper, however, has a higher eco-toxicity than many fungicides used in conventional agriculture. Cooper has the water hazard class 2. It is very toxic for water organisms and can lead to toxic long-term effects in bodies of water. Studies show that copper can damage the liver of workers in the wine industry.

In contrast to common fungicides in the organic agriculture, Nera-Solution Plants, as plant auxiliary substance, is completely water-based and consists of 99.5 % water. It is ecologically and biologically completely harmless since it is produced from ordinary salt and water only and decomposes into hon-hazardous substances water, salt and oxygen again after application.

Nera-Solution Plants is therefore 100% biologically degradable and is perfectly applicable and fit for organic agriculture.

Lower Usage of Toxic Substances

Due to preventive usage of Nera-Solution products, the application of toxic substances (e. g. fungicides) can be drastically reduced.

Better Quality and Storability of Seeds

Due to treatment of seeds before storage, the storability can be prolonged. Furthermore, the seeds need not be treated with toxic substances (e. g. fungicides).

Better Quality of Silage

Treatment of clippings can drastically reduce the application of lactic acid bacteria for the fermentation process. Thus the odour and the quality of the silage is enhanced. The animals receive germ-free, high quality fodder.

Enhancement of Milk Products

Less lactic acid bacteria lead to better taste of cheese.

Enhancement of Milk Quality

Better water quality (less germ load) leads to better milk quality.

Regular, fast and increased Germination

Treatment of seeds with Nera-Solution leads to increased, faster and more regular sprouting. The emergence sometimes happens within one day. Reason for this is, that the seed or sprout needs less energy for the fight against diseases.

Higher Yield

The yield of organic agriculture can be raised by 30 to 50 % so that yields of pilot farms can approach those of farms with conventional agricultural operation. The seed, the sprout and the plants need less energy for the fight against diseases and thus can grow better or more productive respectively.

Less Diseases (e. g. fungal infestation)

Due to treatment of plants with Nera-Solution they grow more vital and healthier. The vulnerability to diseases such as fungal infestation for instance decreases drastically.

Germ-reduced Litter

Treatment of clippings with Nera-Solution leads to germ-reduced litter. This decreases the germ load of lying surfaces of livestock for instance and hence reduces the probability for udder infections.

Usage of Own Seeds

Due to the improvement of seed quality the usage of one’s own seeds becomes more attractive. The seeds have better quality and are germ-free.

14 NERA-DEVICES With the Nera-Devices series, Nera-Tec offers an easy and inexpensive possibility to produce disinfectants for a wide range of different fields of application. (see chapters 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13)

It is our goal to use, combine and enhance existing, industrially established and scientifically validated processes and technologies.

One major focus lies on the user friendliness and customer service. Our generators are based on the plug&play principle.

The functionality and reliability of the devices has been designed for highest industrial requirements. At the same time, devices feature simple usability.

The production process of our disinfectants is based on renowned electrochemical processes which have been enhanced by Nera-Tec and needs, besides devices from the Nera-Tec product series, only cheap, off-the-shelf basic substances.

The disinfectants can thus be produced saving resources and costs. Operating costs and maintenance costs are minimal in case of proper servicing.

THE SOFTWARE The devices are controlled via a 10-inch touch-display in a fast and easy way. Through the display menu all important production parameters can be viewed, controlled and adjusted. All activated product groups (see chapters 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13) can be chosen via this display and can be cleared for production.

In addition to local controls, the production parameters can also be handed over to Nera central servers for 24/7 surveillance. In this way, Nera-Tec can react to error messages and unwanted process changes in a fast and flexible way.

This saves unnecessary maintenance time and costs and leads to lower operating and maintenance expenditures.
