• The climate in Kathmandu is subtropical

• The small,densely populated Kathmandu Valley is the cultural and political heart of Nepal

• One third of Nepal's land is over 3000 meters high

• In the 1990's,a Maoist rebellion began.It has taken over 15 years to resolve.

• They are elected by the people of Nepal

• Each representative serves a five year term

• The National Council has 60 members

• 35 of the 60 are selected by the House

• 15 are chosen by a special electoral college

• The currency of Nepal is the Nepalese Rupee,not to be confused with the Indian Rupee

• It is tied to the Indian Rupee so that one Indian Rupee is the same as 1.6 Nepalese Rupees

• As of April 25,2012,there are 84 rupees in a dollar

• Most Nepalese people eat a simple diet of rice,lentils,and vegetables

• Many people are vegetarians• Most food from Nepal is similar to

what would be found in China or India
