IntroductIon Welcome to our summer programme. This season we have some interesting events, including a number of summer camps for children and outdoor screenings of classic movies, weather permitting. I can heartily recommend two films – the Cannes award winner ‘Of Gods and Men’ and ‘One Hundred Mornings’ – an Irish film screening as part of the Convergence Festival. Our commitment to community events continues with Convergence as well as a Volunteering Day later in July. If you or your group are interested in holding an event at the Arts Centre, let us know by contacting us on 067 34900. Brendan Maher Manager

one hundred MornIngsHoled up in a picturesque cabin near Dublin, the breakdown of society soon leads to struggles over supplies and protection. The tense, claustrophobic, yet beautifully filmed setting proves to be the perfect backdrop for this subtle and assured human drama of increasing desperation, dwindling trust and relationships strained beyond breaking point. Writer and director Conor Horgan demonstrates an assured and imaginative vision, brilliantly complemented by Suzie Lavelle’s cinematography which won the IFTA in 2010.

“balm to the soul of anyone quivering from too many overworked, over-agitated multiplex experiences” The New York Times

a public interview with professor peadar Kirby and the director of the film conor horgan will take place after the film.

Despite the growing menace in their midst, they slowly realize that they have no choice but to stay... come what may. sIngIn’ In the raIndir. stanley donen, gene Kelly | usa | 1952 | 103 mins

Singin’ in the Rain is considered by many people to be among the best Hollywood musicals of all time. Plot? Well it’s about the change from silent movies to talkies and how a group of actors deal with it. But the plot is only something to hang the glorious set-pieces and dance sequences on. Watching it is an exuberant, magical experience – a journey deep into the heart of feel-good territory. With Gene Kelly, Debbie reynolds and Donald O’Connor; it’s hard to be cynical when one is confronted with so much joy writ large across the screen.
