Alsorecognized during the banquet wasthe 2015 Nebraska Angus Producer ofthe Year, Todd and Donalynn Hase-nauer of L Bar L Angus of Wallace.See their story on page 26. Each year, during the presentation of theseawards, I think about how much theseproducers mean to the achievementsof Angus cattle breed in our state.

Now it’s time to congratulate ournewly elected officers and directorsfor our Association for the comingyear. Vince Bickel will lead our Asso-ciation as President, and Brock Fox-hoven will serve as his Vice President.Trevor Lienemann moves into the PastPresident advisory role. Just saying“thank you Trevor” doesn’t seem ade-quate enough for his leadership thispast year. What a year we had as wecelebrated our 75th Anniversary as anAssociation. Each one of these officersand directors have a passion for ourAngus cattle and it shows in the deci-sions they reach in their individualroles and districts. But first and fore-most, they always, always keep inmind “What’s the best for our mem-bership”.

Our directors and their individualdistricts are: West – Matt Dolezal,Rushville; North – Dave Nichols,Chambers; Central – Danny Poss, Sco-tia; South – Brandon Meyer, Blue Hill;Northeast – John Carlson, Columbus;and Southeast – Brett Weers, Diller;and Commercial Director – ChrisFryzek, Madrid. These fella's areyoung, visionary, hard working, dedi-cated and a good bunch to work with.I appreciate all they do to make myjob easier. Please see the photo of ournew board on page 8. Looking at thatphoto, I think we all “clean up prettygood”!!

Our busiest seasons for each us israpidly approaching and productionsales fill the calendar. Please checkout the list of member sales this springon page 52. EditorialEditorialBy: Suzy Hebbert, NAA Secretary

Our recently completed annualmeeting and banquet has let mereflect on my journey as

Sec/Mgr. When I began my role inJanuary of 2008, we had 165 members.Today our membership stands at 198members at the beginning of 2016.The growth in membership hasn’thappened overnight. We began with avision to grow our visibility as an As-sociation in the state – meaning thatencompasses everything from ourroles as a board, as members, our pub-lications and our typesetters who cre-ate those publications (Kami andJessamyn, thanks so much for yourcontributions to our “vision”). Com-munications to our members and ourpublic, our activities, our shows andour Junior State Association memberstoo. We ALL have played a role inthat growth…we now have a “value”to being a member of our association. And it started with that “GreatMomma Cow”!! Thanks to all of you(past and present) who are the founda-tion of our success. Let’s keep movingforward.

As part of moving forward…check out our newest columnist onpage 16. Regional Manager Jay Nord-hausen will be joining our magazinefrom time to time with his “View FromThe Top”. Jay has been with our statefor 18 months and he is just a great joyto work with. Again, that young, en-thusiastic, theme comes through.

2016 will be an exciting year forour Association. Nebraska, along withSouth Dakota, are hosting the Na-tional Junior Angus Show in Grand Is-land, at the Nebraska StateFairgrounds, July 3-9. The preparationhas been underway now for manymonths, and according to Jake Scott, show chair, our progress is right onschedule. Watch our website, yourpersonal membership newsletters andemail updates for ways you will beable to contribute to the success of theshow. See page 30 for a look at theprint that Falls City artist AmandaRaithel has created to benefit theshow. “The Good Life” will be auc-

tioned at the “Angus On TheMountain” event January 13,2016, during the 2016 NWSS. Seethe following link for more infor-mation regarding that auction:http://www.angus.org/Pub/News-room/Releases/120715-af-angus-night-on-the-mountain.aspx.

Fellow Cattlemen,

By: Vince Bickel NAA President

Iam honored to have been chosen tolead the Nebraska Angus Associa-tion for the 2016 calendar year. It is

an office that has been held by manyastute Angus breeders since its incep-tion and I am looking forward to serv-ing the many outstanding memberswe have.

This fall of 2015 has put increasedpressure on prices of calves and it be-comes more evident the “addedvalue” of Angus genetics in the mar-ketplace. Whether it be at our localsale barns across our great state, seedstock sales, or at the grocery counter, the brand “Angus” adds value to ourproducts. And I, having traveledmany states over the past severalyears, truly deep down believe wehave the greatest Angus genetics inthe country right here in Nebraska, along with the best producers. I wishyou all success in the upcoming bullsales, female sales and all of yourAngus endeavors. I truly believethere will be great demand for topAngus genetics this year even withlower fed cattle prices.

It is also and exciting year for meto serve as President with the 2016NJAA show coming to Grand Island.Special thanks to chairs Jake and KamiScott and all of their committee chairsand everyone involved. It is a hugeundertaking and hopefully everyone

can chip in and help and make this thebest Jr. show ever. We are so fortunateto posses the best facilities in thecountry.

Also I would like to thank JerryConnealy for his hard work on theAngus Association board of directors. It is a very time consuming job andwe are so lucky to have a strong voicerepresenting our Nebraska breeders.

In closing I would like to thankTrevor Lienemann for the great job hehas done the past year in representingour board. I also would like to thankall the other board members and ourSec/Mgr Suzy Hebbert. Without all oftheir hard work our Association couldnot exist. If I or any of the board canbe of assistance or you have any ideasto help strengthen our board pleasefeel free to contact us.

Dear Nebraska Angus friends,

By: Jerry Connealy AAA Director

The 2015 Angus Means Busi-ness National Conventionand Trade Show that was

held in Overland Park, Kansas inNovember seemed to be a greatsuccess. Over 2100 folks in thebeef industry, including commer-cial cattlemen, feeders, and seed-stock producers were inattendance.

The International Angus Ge-nomics Symposium featuredspeakers who addressed thehuman genome and the advance-ments in chicken genomic testing. It wouldn’t seem like those twoareas would be applicable to thecattle industry, but they absolutelywere!

It was enlightening to hearabout all of the discoveries beingmade in genomic research for theadvancement of human medicine. It was also fascinating to learnabout the field of chicken genetics. One of the facts that sticks in mymind is that 25% of the chickengene pool is turned every sevenweeks. By comparison, our bovinegenetics are turning at a snail’space.

Keynote speaker Ken Schmidt, the former director ofcommunications for Harley-David-son Motor Company, was very en-tertaining and informative. Hechallenged all of us in business tobuild customer loyalty in creativeways, and he had the audiencelaughing throughout his presenta-tion.

Breakout sessions were offeredon a variety of topics, and seemedto provide information of interestfor nearly everyone.

If you weren’t able to attendthis year’s convention, I would en-courage you to consider attendingin 2016. Unfortunately for those ofus in Nebraska, it’s going to be abit more of a trek next year as itwill be held in Indianapolis. How-ever, keep it in mind. Iam writing this article after return-ing from spending a weekend inKearney with my Angus family.

What a wonderful weekend it turnedout to be! The temperatures were mild(especially for December) and therewas no snow on the ground. The timewas spent catching up with friends, meeting new people, and showing cat-tle. The weekend turned out to bejam-packed! The Nebraska JuniorAngus members and Nebraska AngusAssociation members came togetherwith their families to celebrate the ac-complishments of our Angus associa-tion at the annual banquet.

The Nebraska Junior Angus mem-bers put together an outstandingsemen auction that raised over $8,000for future events. A silent auctionwith items donated by breeders raisedan additional $500. I want to person-ally thank those junior members whoserved as chairmen for the auctions. Both were a total success! On behalf ofthe members, I also want to thank theNebraska Angus Association for pro-viding the space and time to hold bothevents. Thank you to the semendonors, bidders, and buyers. You arean important part of the Nebraska Jun-ior Angus Association’s success andwe members truly appreciate yoursupport.

The Nebraska Junior Angus Asso-ciation members held their annualwinter meeting on December 5th.New members introduced themselvesbefore participating in icebreaker ac-tivities. Juniors discussed changing theofficer election process from the slateprocedure to an application and writ-ten ballot for the second time. A writ-ten proposal was made and will bevoted on at the February meeting dur-ing the Cattlemen’s Classic. Juniors af-firmed Michaela Clowser’s candidacyto run for the National Junior AngusBoard of Directors at the 2016 NationalJunior Angus Show in Grand Island,Nebraska. The next meeting for theNebraska Junior Angus Associationwill be February 20th at 1:00 duringthe Nebraska Cattlemen’s Classic. A

In my life, I’ve been called a 6’footer many times and that com-ment is usually followed by “just

how tall are you?” Yes, I’m 6’5”. Myheight has created many nicknamesand wisecracks throughout the yearsbut now it’s time to shed light on myoutlook of the world through a maga-zine column known as, “A View fromthe Top”. As a matter of fact, “TheBusiness Breed” shares the same ad-vantage point, “A View from the Top”.It’s hard to imagine my height couldhave such a high correlation with myprofession.

The purpose of the column (out-side the witty name) is to give an asso-ciation perspective through the eyes ofyour regional manager. Who knowswhere the road can take us. It willallow for an opportunity to touch oncommon issues or questions amongmembers, association highlights, up-coming events, or maybe even a salereport from the road.

of April. Don’t forget to keep up withthe sales calendar and sale reports onthe Nebraska and American AngusAssociation websites.

We are all very excited about the“Beef State” hosting the Junior Na-tional Angus Show in Grand Island,NE, July 3-9. I can’t think of any betterway for Nebraska to showcase ourheritage, way of life, and passion forthe Angus breed at a national level.

Also, in the works is Cattleman’sBoot Camp, which will be held in thefall at the University of Nebraska-Lin-coln in the Animal Science Building,Lincoln, NE, sometime in the fall of2016. Cattlemen's Boot Camp pro-vides Angus breeders and commercialproducers the ability to learn furtherabout all segments of our ever-chang-ing beef industry. These comprehen-sive educational programs address awide range of beef cattle productiontopics.

In closing, it was great to seeeveryone in Kearney at the annualmeeting and banquet! It’s been a yearnow since I started my new begin-nings with the American Angus Asso-ciation. And what a year it has been!It has truly been an honor to meet andbuild a relationship with all of themembers, not only within my terri-tory, but throughout the nation aswell. Remember if you ever have anyquestions, thoughts, or concerns I’monly a phone call away.

2015 President Spotlight2015 President SpotlightTrevor LienemannTrevor is a first-generation Angus

breeder with a tremendous passionfor the Angus breed, and the beef in-dustry. He likes to say, he was notborn into the Business Breed; hechose it. The family’s Angus seed-stock operation, Lienetics, is nearPrinceton, NE.

In 1992, shortly after marrying hiswife, Torri, Trevor convinced Torrithey should invest in cattle. Sheknew nothing of cattle but agreed.Trevor obtained six aged Angus fe-males from a local producer. Trevorhad owned a commercial herd whenhe was young, but knewlittle about registered live-stock. He studied every-thing he could about theAngus breed, appropri-ately named “The Busi-ness Breed.” Trevor beinga CPA had a great affinityfor numbers, analyzingdata and evaluating prof-itability and sustainabil-ity. The “Businessman”and the “Business Breed”were perfectly suited forone another.

Trevor has been amember of the AmericanAngus Association andNebraska Angus Associa-tion since his initial invest-ment. As time andresources have allowed, he has par-ticipated in leadership for both. Atthe Junior level, his family supportsthe Angus Foundation, hosted the2012 NE Jr. Angus Show, and hasparticipated in the NJAS show forseveral years and are serving as the2016 education chairmen. Trevorhas also contributed his leadershipto the beef industry at other levels(e.g., president of the local affiliate, and two terms on the Nebraska Cat-tlemen’s board). Additionally, through the Nebraska Departmentof Agriculture and Farm Bureau,Lienetics frequently serves as host tovisiting dignitaries including groupsfrom China, Turkey, the Nether-lands, Ghana, Sweden, and Belarus. These visits have included profes-sional development on policy, prac-tice, product development, genetics, artificial insemination and embryo

transplant. A significant emphasis isalways placed on the quality andconvenience traits associated withthe Angus breed. Additionally, in2015 the Lienemann’s were privi-leged to host the Certified AngusBeef Chef Tour and will again in2016.

Building a successful first genera-tion cattle operation has been a teameffort. The entire Lienemann familyhas ownership, investment and re-sponsibilities for the Angus Seed-stock operation. While cattle arecentral to their home life, the Liene-mann’s like to keep their endeavorsdiverse. In addition to Trevor’s cat-

tle related duties, he manages hisown livestock equipment and con-sulting company. Torri, designs allmarketing materials and producestheir annual bull sale catalog. 2015 Producer of the Year2015 Producer of the YearProducer of the YearProducer of the Year

L Bar L AngusThis year’s producer of the year

has built their operation from theground up. And along the waythey have had a positive impact onmany Nebraska Angus breeders, ofall ages.

L Bar L Angus was startedshortly after Todd and DonalynnHasenauer tied the knot in 1984.To this union Todd brought threeAngus cows which had been pur-chased for 4-H projects in the late1970’s from John andDeb Quirk. Donnie sup-plied six registeredShorthorn cows that laterbecame the foundationof their commercial cowherd.

They have dedicatedover 30+ years to breed-ing and promoting asolid and well respectedAngus herd in Wallace,Nebraska. Todd andDonnie have made fam-ily and friends as impor-tant to their ranchingenterprise as their cattle.

Todd and Donnie’sfour children (Tyler and his wifeKristin, Bryce, Josie and Emily)have a vested interest in the landand cattle operation at L Bar L andhelp out as much as they can.Todd and Donnie have and con-tinue to maintain active involve-ment in the lives of their children, even as they step out on their own.Becoming “Empty Nesters” hasnot deterred Todd and Donniefrom staying actively engagedwith other youth in the Wallacecommunity.

For the past 15 years they havebeen Jr & Sr High Sunday Schoolteachers as well as the adult coor-dinators for the Wallace UnitedMethodist Youth Fellowshipgroup. They care deeply about themoral and religious developmentof the youth in their community.

The last ten years Todd has servedas a board member for the BethelBible conference in Wellfleet. Theyprovide Christian/bible studycamping opportunities for youthin their area.

Todd has been a 4-H leader inthe Wallace Jr. Livestock club since1981. This club sponsors and putson the annual “Wallace MainEvent Livestock show”. It is a dayof fun competition among youthlivestock exhibitors in Lincolncounty, the show serves as a greatwarm up the Lincoln County Fair.Additionally, Todd has been a Beef

Superintendent for the LincolnCounty fair for the past 20 years.Todd also has a passion for actingand he shares his talents within hiscommunity via a local play housenamed the “Wallace CommunityPlayers “. He has participated inover 15 various productions, allgenerating funds that go towardscommunity improvements.

Angus breed involvement in-cludes Todd’s service as a Ne-braska Angus Association Southdirector for 3 years and Presidentof the NAA during the 2002-2003calendar years. The kids were in-volved in the Nebraska JuniorAngus Association along with theNational Jr Angus Association, ex-hibiting cattle at numerous stateshows and four Junior Nationals. The Hasenauers’ co-hosted the Ne-

braska State Junior Angus showsin McCook (2005), Ogallala (2008)and North Platte (2012). TheHasenauer family is well knownfor providing the most fun filledgames and special events held atany state Jr show event. All partic-ipants, adult and youth alike, have a blast.

L Bar L has exhibited cattle inthe Yards at the National WesternStock Show (NWSS) for the years1997 thru 2012. Their cattle werealways well received and Donnie’scooking definitely was a big hit inthe yards for the exhibitor (Donnie

does have her owncatering business on theside). L Bar L has partic-ipated in the NebraskaCattlemen’s Classic (in-cluding the first one 25years ago), the NebraskaAngus Ass’n Pen ofThree show and saleand supported the stateAngus tour in 1999 and2008 by hosting one ofthe stops. L Bar L con-ducts an annual produc-tion sale every year onthe last Thursday ofMarch. They average 80

bulls and 40-60 heifercalves (purebred and commercial)on the sale. They do a large num-ber of private treaty sales through-out the year., and through allactivities, family and relationshipswith people are their true focus.

“Family” -- a word that meanseverything to the Hasenauer’s at LBar L! “They are passionate aboutcattle. But what brings to life thatpassion is the relationships and thepeople that tie it all together. Theyhave made many friends and hada tremendous impact locally, inNebraska and nationally since theystarted raising Angus in 1985.They strive to create a relationshipwith everyone they encounter andtry to turn those relationships intolasting friendships.”

John and Deb QuirkThe Quirk Family's cattle in-

volvement started in the early1900's when Elmer Quirk, JohnQuirk's grandfather, moved tocentral South Dakota from hisnative Wisconsin to escape theconstant mud. After working asa butcher and running a meatshop for a few years, he pur-chased some ranch land in 1921that started what is now QuirkRanch just south of Highmore.Elmer had a commercial Here-ford cowherd until his death inthe early 1950s.

Then, John P. Quirk, the cur-rent John Quirk's father, whohad earlier moved to Hastings,Ne, sold the Hereford herd andreplaced it with commercialAngus cows. In the late 1950'san artificial insemination pro-gram was started using freshunfrozen semen from Jorgensenherd sires. In the early 1970'sthese cows were bred with BeefFriesian semen from recentlyimported bulls, resulting in thecrossbred Amerifax herd still onthe ranch.

John Quirk's mother's familyraised registered Red Poll cattlein southeastern South Dakota, winning ribbons at the SouthDakota State Fair as early as

1906. In 1959 John P. Quirk anda partner started M-Q AngusRanch near Hastings consistingmostly of Marshall bred cattle.Lefty Kluge and Jerry Fitzger-ald managed this herd whichwas sold in the late 1960s.

The current Quirk Land &Cattle Co, was started in theearly 1970s with Western Cana-dian pedigreed cows being bredto Canadian and Emulous bredsires. Later a number of cowsfrom Ankony Angus wereadded to the herd. From 1976until 1999, Rex Harl man-aged the herd and theshow string. During thelate 1970s and early 1980sfive QLC shown bulls,Hobo, Mr. Angus, War-rant, Sentry and, in 1984,QLC Winchester wereNational Champion bulls. In 1996 QLC bulls, allsired by Krugerand ofDonamere, were theGrand Champion Car-load at the National West-ern in Denver.

After Rex's retirementin 1999, Dave Walker, who had worked at QLCsince 1996, became themanager. Between 2001and 2006 three QLCraised bulls were GrandChampion at the NebraskaState Fair. QLC LaGrandForum was twice named Na-tional Champion Angus bull in2004-5 and 2005-6. ANGUS NAMES ALLENMOCZYGEMBA CEO

Texas native to lead the nation’s largestbeef breed organization

Allen Moczygemba, a native of SanAntonio, Texas, is the new chief execu-tive officer of the American Angus As-sociation, effective Dec. 1, 2015.

Moczygemba will serve as the chiefexecutive officer for the AmericanAngus Association and for each of theAssociation’s subsidiaries: Angus Pro-ductions Inc., Certified Angus BeefLLC, Angus Genetics Inc. and theAngus Foundation.

He will also be responsible for im-plementing the Association’s long-term strategic objectives and leading ateam of more than 200 employees. TheAssociation Board of Directors an-nounced the decision today.

“This is a great day for the Ameri-can Angus Association and the Angusbreed,” said Steve Olson, Associationpresident. “Allen not only brings afresh, strategic vision to our organiza-tion, but also a detail-oriented, hands-on approach to leadership that willensure our resources are focused oncontinuing to grow demand for Angusgenetics and the Certified Angus Beefbrand.”

Moczygemba possesses nearlythree decades of experience in the cat-tle business, managing business units, overseeing brands and building strate-gic relationships across the beef indus-try.

He most recently served as vicepresident of marketing for AdvancedAnimal Diagnostics, a tech companydeveloping on-farm animal-health di-agnostic platforms.

While serving as beef segment mar-keting director for Zoetis AnimalHealth and Pfizer Animal Health, hedeveloped partnerships with organi-zations such as the American QuarterHorse Association, CattleFax, NationalCattlemen’s Beef Association and theProfessional Rodeo Cowboys Associa-tion.

He managed Progressive Beef, a

program of standard operating proce-dures for the fed cattle sector that in-cludes an independent third-partyaudit. The program’s standards alignclosely with major retailers, such asPerformance Food Group.

Moczygemba also was senior vicepresident for Farm Journal DatabaseStrategies and vice president for FarmJournal Livestock Group, where hewas publisher of Beef Today andDairy Today magazines.

“AAA enjoys a long and successfulhistory in developing innovative waysto advance the Angus breed,”Moczygemba said. “I am excited abouthelping to write the next chapter forthe breed and blazing new trails of op-portunity for our members.”

Moczygemba received his degree in1987 in agriculture communicationsfrom Southwest Texas State Univer-sity. He and his wife, Venetta, havetwo sons, Lane and Ross.

Q&A with Allen MoczygeMbA

American Angus Association’s new CEOtalks about Angus — and what memberscan expect as he takes the reins of the or-ganization.

Q: First, how do you pronounce yourname?

A: “I get that a lot… It’s ‘Mitch-eh-gemba.’”

Q: Tell us about your background.

A: “I’m a fourth-generation Texanwho grew up on a commercial cow-calf operation in south Texas. I gradu-ated from Southwest Texas StateUniversity with a degree in agricul-tural communications in 1987 andhave spent nearly three decades inagribusiness and the cattle business, working in different sectors to overseeteams and lead brands, manage busi-ness units and build strategic relation-ships across the beef industry. Mywife, Venetta, and I have two grownsons, Lane and Ross. Our boys live inTexas and are both in the final year of

receiving their MBAs.”

Q: Why are you interested in servingas the CEO of the American AngusAssociation?

A: “For starters, it’s the AmericanAngus Association — the most suc-cessful cattle breed association in theworld.

“Second, I feel that my collabora-tive leadership style and managementskills will be a good fit for the Associa-tion.

“And, finally, my business back-ground allows me to bring a differentperspective to American Angus, whichI believe will be beneficial as the Asso-ciation begins work on updating theLong-Range Strategic Plan and creat-ing new opportunities for growth inthe years ahead. I’ve had the opportu-nity to work for market leaders suchas Farm Journal Media and Pfizer Ani-mal Health/Zoetis, which I believehas prepared me well for my new rolewith the American Angus Associa-tion.”

Q: How do you plan to grow de-mand for registered Angus seed-stock?

A: “While there’s been a tremendousamount of growth in demand forAngus cattle in the past decade, wemust continue to grow relevance foreveryone from seedstock to commer-cial users. A high priority will be todevelop a more comprehensive focusthat creates more value through thechain, especially at the commerciallevel. We need to continue exploringhow to reach commercial ranchers andproviding meaningful programs andservices for commercial cattlemen thatare technologically based. We need tocreate a data stream from the packerback to the feeder and ultimately tothe ranch to ensure that we have all ofthe information that producers need tomake informed decisions about genet-ics, breeding decisions, etc.”

Q: What do you think is the Associa-tion’s greatest strength?

A: “Without a doubt it’s the membersand staff and their relentless commit-ment to improvement of not only theAngus breed but also the beef indus-try as a whole.”

Q: What surprises you most aboutAAA?

A: “I wouldn’t say I’m surprised by it,but I marvel at the breadth of influ-ence that Angus has across the entirecattle industry. What the AmericanAngus Association does impacts allthe various sectors of the cattle busi-ness. And while that’s good for Angusand all of our members, it also carrieswith it a large measure of responsibil-ity because our decisions and actionswill ultimately have more influence onthe US cattle industry than any otherorganization.

Q: What should people expect fromyour style of leadership?

A: “My leadership style is built uponcollaboration, building consensus andultimately creating a culture of em-powerment that is energized by ashared vision. It’s also very importantto me that all views or perspectiveshave a seat at the table and not be ex-cluded from having input.”

Q: You came from outside the Asso-ciation. Why is that an advantage?

A: “I have a diverse background andthat allows me to bring a different —and I think broader perspective — toAmerican Angus. In turn, that allowsme to see new opportunities. I’veworked for some great organizationsthat have provided me a myriad of ex-perience. I feel like all of those experi-ences have prepared me specificallyfor my new role at the Association.”

Q: What do you want people toknow about you?

A: “First, I’m honored and humbled tobe selected to lead such an outstand-ing organization. I really do under-stand and appreciate the legacy andheritage of the American Angus Asso-ciation — and everything it’s meant tothe beef industry. It’s important thatwe continue to build on this legacy, and make economic conditions evenbetter for our members as we move

forward.“Second, folks will see that I’m fair

in both how I manage and in my deci-sion-making process. I know thateveryone is not going to agree withevery decision that I make; however,I’m confident that people will see thatI consider all viewpoints equally andfairly.”

MAKE PLANS FOR 2016NATIONAL WESTERN

STOCK SHOWThe 110-year-old tradition continues in

Denver, Colo., with Angus events Jan. 13-16, 2016.

For many individuals and families,

the National Western Stock Show

(NWSS) in Denver, Colo., is an exten-

sion of their holiday celebrations. The

NWSS is a cherished tradition that

dates back more than a century, and

thousands are expected to travel to the

National Western throughout the

month of January.

Angus events kick off Jan. 13, 2016,

and continue through the week with

the annual NWSS Angus Bull Sale,

Super-Point Roll of Victory (ROV)

Shows, the Junior Angus Heifer Show,

as well as special events hosted by the

Angus Foundation.

“The best of the Angus breed come

together to compete at the National

Western Stock Show each year,” says

Jaclyn Clark, American Angus Associ-

ation director of events and education.

“New this year, we look forward to

hosting the first Angus Heifer Pen

Show on Saturday, Jan. 16, down in

the Yards.”

For years, the carload and pen

Angus bull show has been a unique

tradition at the NWSS, and now ex-

hibitors are able to showcase their reg-

istered-Angus heifers in the

competition that ranks their ability to

present a uniform group of cattle.

While walking through the Yards,

be sure to stop by the Angus Tent,

where Association, Angus Genetics

Inc. (AGI) and Certified Angus Beef

LLC (CAB) staff members will be on

hand to visit about the latest programs

and news from the organization.

RoV Angus shows

Angus activities begin with the

Angus Bull Sale Show at 8 a.m.

Wednesday, Jan. 13, in the Stadium

Arena. A panel of three judges will

evaluate the bulls using a composite

system to establish a sale order. Judges

are Scott Bayer, Ringle, Wis.; Mark

Nikkel, Maple Hill, Kan.; and Jake

Tiedeman, North Platte, Neb. Atten-

dees will be invited into the showring

to inspect bulls after the grand and re-

serve grand champions have been se-

lected.

Immediately after, the ROV Angus

Bull Show is scheduled to begin at

11:30 a.m. in Stadium Arena. Judges

Jeff Dameron, Towanda, Ill., and Chris

Cassady, Tuscola, Ill., will evaluate the

ROV entries.

The Junior Angus Heifer Show be-

gins at 8 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, in Sta-

dium Arena. Brad Winegardner, Lima,

Ohio, will judge the junior show. The

the ring, judged again by Dameron

and Cassady.

The NWSS Angus Pen and Carload

Show takes place Saturday, Jan. 16.

The show begins with the bull car-

loads at 8 a.m. in the Livestock Center

Auction Arena, followed by the Angus

heifer pens and Angus bull pens.

Arlen Sawyer, Bassett, Neb.; Doug

Slattery, Chappell Hill, Texas;and Phil

Trowbridge, Ghent, N.Y., will serve on

the three-judge panel evaluating the

group competitions.

Immediate show results will be

available online at www.angus.org

and accessed through the Associa-

tion’s smartphone application, Angus

Mobile. A complete event schedule,

showring videos, event photos and

breaking news alerts are also available
