To advance the quality of teaching and learning by:

Maintaining high and rigorous standards for what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do,

Providing a national voluntary system certifying teachers who met these standards, and

Advocating related education reforms to integrate National Board Certification® in American education and to capitalize on the expertise of National Board Certified Teachers.

NBPTS is an independent, nonprofit, nonpartisan and non-governmental organization

Created in 1987 in response to A Nation At Risk and A Nation Prepared

Support from foundations, corporations, grants from the U.S. Department of Education, and candidate fees

What are the Requirements ?

Candidates must have:

A bachelor’s degree

A minimum of three years teaching in a public or private school

A valid teaching license
