Açai - the Amazon’s youthful berry

What is Açai? (pronounced ah-sigh-EE)

Açai is a berry that comes from the Açai Palm. The Açai Palm originates in South America. It has been a traditional food for centuries among the Brazillian people.

Why is Açai good for you?

Açai contains several substances called anthocyanins and flavonoids. Foods that are richest in anthocyanins - such as blueberries, red grapes, red wine, and açai are very strongly colored, ranging from deep purple to black. Açai has over 6 times the antioxidant capacity of blueberries and contains Omega 3,6 and 9 essential fatty acids in quantities similiar to olive oil. It’s these fatty acids that are thought to support cardiovascular wellness.

Anthocyanins and flavonoids are powerful antioxidants that help defend the body against life’s stressors. They also play a role in the body’s cell protection system. Free radicals are harmful byproducts generated by the body. Eating a diet rich in antioxidants may interfere with aging and the disease process by neutralizing free radicals.

PBee Pollen - Nature’s super food

Bee Pollen contains the male gametes of plants found as small dust pellets in the stamen of flowers. Bee Pollen has been called nature’s perfect food.

It is very rich in vitamins and contains almost all known minerals, trace elements, enzymes and amino acids.

Bee pollen is a popular nutritional supplement that builds the immune system and provides energy for the entire body. It contains 35% protein, 55% carbohydrate, 2% fatty acids and 3% minerals and vitamins. It is high in B-complex and vitamins A, C, D and E. It also contains lecithin, beta-carotene and selenium.

Athletes often use this supplement to help increase their strength, endurance, energy and speed. Bee pollen aids the body in recovery from exercise, returning breathing and heart rate to normal, and improves endurance for repeat exertion. It also improves mental and physical reactions.

CAUTION: Bee pollen may cause an allergic reaction. Test before use. Discontinue if irritation occurs and seek advice immediately from your health care professional.

Olive Fruit is a potent source of antioxidants. Fresh Olive Fruit contains a number of natural compounds with potent anti-microbial and antioxidant properties, many of which are the same as found in olive leaf extract. These antioxidants are not found in traditional cured olives.

Manuka Honey is highly regarded for its antibacterial properties, is an excellent source of energy rich in glucose and fructose. Honey, especially in combination with lemon, soothes the throat. Propolis is a complex, natural substance produced by Honey Bees. It contains minerals, vitamins, organic acids and important flavonoids. Propolis is a resinous substance that bees collect from the sap of trees and flower blossoms to use in and around their hive, which is known to have antimicrobial properties.

Bitter Melon: a fruit commonly found in tropical and sub-tropical climates. Bitter Melon contains a substance called charantin - an insulin-like peptide. Bitter Melon also contains lectins - non-digestible sugar-binding proteins which reduce the amount of sugar absorbed by the digestive system.

Cinnamon is a powder that is sourced from the inner bark layers of the Cinnamonum tree genus. This fragrant spice has been used as both a food and a medicine. Research has shown cinnamon has been used to help support a healthy blood sugar level. Agave Syrup is an organic low GI natural sweetener made from 100% Agave Juice. It has a 6x lower GI rating than cane sugar. Agave Syrup is high in fructose, and low in glucose.

Gymnema Sylvestre is most commonly used for the treatment of conditions related to sugar imbalances, such as diabetes and obesity. It has also traditionally been used for its suppressing effects on the taste buds, making sugar cravings less, and supporting reduced appetite. Thus it may be beneficial to fight sugar and sweet cravings, lowering the total caloric/kilojoule intake and hence acting as a weight loss support.

Nutritional supplementation with antioxidants and natural carotenoids may help reduce the risk of cellular damage from oxidative stress, and support healthy eyesight.

Macular Saffron: Lutein and zeaxanthin are key ingredients in the support of eye wellness. They act as a protectant for our eyes from the damaging effects of light and oxidative stress.

Kale: is an amazing vegetable being recognized for its exceptional nutrient richness. Kale is also rich in the eye-support promoting lutein and zeaxanthin compounds. Kale’s health benefits are primarily linked to the high concentration and excellent source of antioxidant vitamins A, C, and K -- and sulphur-containing phytonutrients.

Carotenoids and flavonoids are the specific types of antioxidants associated with many health benefits.

The goji berry, also known as the wolfberry, is a bright orange-red berry commonly grown in the north-central and western areas of China. Although they have only been introduced in Western countries in more recent years, goji berries have been used for thousands of years in Tibet and China, both as a culinary ingredient and medicinally. Goji berries are eaten raw, cooked, or dried (like raisins) and are used in herbal teas, juices, wines and medicines. Why is Goji good for you?Unique among fruits because they contain all essential amino acids, goji berries also have the highest concentration of protein of any fruit. They are also loaded with vitamin C, contain more carotenoids than any other food, have twenty-one trace minerals, and are high in fibre. Boasting 15 times the amount of iron found in spinach, as well as calcium, zinc, selenium and many other important trace minerals, there is no doubt that the humble goji berry is a nutritional powerhouse. This amazing little superfruit also contains natural anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal compounds. Their powerful antioxidant properties and polysaccharides help to support the immune system.

Cherries have been prized for centuries for their taste and good nutritional value. In recent years scientists have shown that cherries are more than just a food. Rich in dark colour pigments, known as anthocyanins, cherries have substantially strong antioxidant properties. These pigments, as recent studies show, play an important role in human health and performance. Rose Hip is a rich natural source of Vitamin C, carotenoids including Vitamin A, essential fatty acids and antioxidant flavonoids such as anthocyanins and proanthocyanidins. Rose Hip has been used traditionally as an anti-inflammatory. This has been supported by recent research confirming the anti-inflammatory activity of Rose Hip preparations.

Superbeet Formula Beetroot Juice: Beetroot has been a staple food in Eastern Europe for many centuries. It also serves an important role as a dietary supplement because of its numerous nutrients. Research has shown beetroot juice to be high in nitrates, assists memory, improves energy, has been linked to increased endurance, contains no added sugar, ORAC 25,000 µmol/L

Mangosteen is a tropical fruit growing in south-east asia. Mangosteen juice is a potent source of antioxidants - substances which protect the body from the harmful effects of free radicals and oxidative damage. Xanthones are one of the most powerful antioxidants discovered. Xanthones are highly effective free-radical scavengers. The rind, or ‘pericarp’ of the Mangosteen is one of the richest sources of xanthones found in nature.

Aronia: Aronia berries are nature’s richest sources of flavonoids, anthocyanin and antioxidants and they are packed with essential phyto-nutrients and vitamins. They are also rich in carotenes, luteins and zeaxanthins. According to the USDA, the raw aronia berry contains an Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) score of 16,062 umol TE/100 grams, making its antioxidant concentration three times greater than that of the blueberry, acai berry, and blackberry. The fruits retain their antioxidant activity even after they’ve been concentrated into a juice. Some of the antioxidants found in aronia berries have the ability to fight cell-destroying free radicals in the body, thereby protecting us from degenerative diseases whilst providing us with anti-aging benefits.
