National Summer School for Arts Fundraising and LeadershipThe National Summer School for Arts Fundraising and Leadership will offer an intensive programme of study for emerging arts leaders and cultural entrepreneurs. It will be led by renowned academics and arts sector professionals.The Summer School is led by the University of Leeds in partnership with the Arts Fundraising & Philanthropy Programme and is the only arts-specific residential course in fundraising and leadership in the UK. It is also an accredited course with the University of Leeds (subject to validation), and represents half of the credits required for a Post Graduate Certificate in Arts Fundraising and Philanthropy.

The Summer School is aimed at arts managers, fundraisers and practitioners with at least three years’ experience of employment in fundraising and/or the arts or cultural sector. It is for people who would like to develop their careers as arts leaders, whether by leading organisations or dedicated development teams.

The Summer School will be delivered through a mixture of lectures, tutorials, panel discussions, group activities, individual project work and presentations.

Interactive panels and visits to arts organisations will provide a unique opportunity for participants to listen to, questionandnetworkwitharangeofseniorartsleaders.HostedatTheTetleyandatTheHepworth,paneldebateswill be focused around hot topics and areas of controversy in arts fundraising and philanthropy (e.g. the concept of the ‘paying board’ and the disparity of fundraising between London and the so-called ‘regions’).

Post Graduate Certificate in Arts Fundraising and PhilanthropyThe University of Leeds will be offering a Post Graduate Certificate in Arts Fundraising and Philanthropy in 2014/15 (subjecttovalidation).Theawardwillbeachievedbysuccessfulcompletionoftwo30-creditmodules:

*Module1:successfulcompletionoftheNationalSummerSchoolforArtsFundraisingandLeadership(assessmentwill comprise an individual essay and group project work & presentations undertaken during the Summer School)

*Module2:awork-basedreflectiveprofessionalpracticemoduledeliveredatdistancebutsupportedbyonlineresources, webinars and a research supervisor based at the University of Leeds

Note: enrolling for the Post Graduate Certificate will cost £600+VAT but is optional – you can attend the National Summer School for Arts Fundraising and Leadership as a stand-alone course.

Practical information TheNationalSummerSchoolforArtsFundraisingandLeadershiptakesplaceatWeetwoodHallConferenceCentre&HotelinLeeds (www.weetwood.co.uk) and runs from Sunday 31 August 2014 at 4pm until Fri 5 September 2014 at 3.30pm.

Mostdaysrunfrom9.30am-5.30pm, but participants will need to undertake project work during the evenings. On the final evening there will be a dinner at The Tetley – a new centre for contemporary art and learning located in the stunning art deco headquartersoftheformerTetleyBreweryincentralLeeds.

Costs and booking The cost for attending the Summer School is £1,750+VAT.
