- Authentication: system knows who you are and what you can do, without usernames and passwords

- Standardized look, feel, navigation throughout

- Managed Access: NPS and public

- Sensitivity, Proprietary status, Quality assessment: managed at the record level

- The portal isn’t the only way to reach the underlying data

- User Requirements: hundreds of users and potential users interviewed during development process

- Iterative Development: Short development cycles; functionality added or improved with each cycle

- Performance: will be getting better!

- Public Use Statistics: work will begin this year to integrate application into the portal

- Inventory Tracking: Integration by the end of the fiscal year

- T&E species, RPRS, APCAM: currently being considered for conversion and integration

- Geospatial capabilities: expanding with each release

Portal Steering Committee – other ideas one tab called “search” bring back the name “data store” tabs based on function, not subject specific searches or ways to retrieve

“authoritative” data sets “human use” tab is confusing to cultural

staff look at Google’s use of links in upper-left

corner of its home page look at Databasin.org website etc.
