BACKGROUND• Nathu Sweets enjoys a distinct reputation for manufacturing

premium quality North Indian and Bengali Sweets since 1936.• Nathu sweets has its place amongst the popular sweetmeat shop in

Central Delhi.• It has 13 shop chain which offer varieties of sweets and other

preparations such as sohan halwa,ghevar,rabri,kalakand,chole bhature and aloo chat.

• With the rich experience of three generations, they offer the cleanest and best quality products produced using the most modern technology to suits the contemporary taste.

• They are ready to service their guest’s daily from 8.30 hours and take pleasure in serving till 22.30 hours every day, 7 days a week.

PROBLEMS

• Escalation in prices of raw materials including key ingredients such as khoya,sugar,dry fruit and milk.

• Tough to maintain profits and growth margins at existing prices.

• If they increase price too much,they stand the risk of being forced out of the competition.

• Need ways to cut costs without compromising on quality.

ALTERNATIVES

• They can bring changes in processes of production by just in time methods of production so that the waste could be minimized.

• Expansion could be postponed as it may require capital at initial stage.

• One more method is to increase the working hour of employees so that some of the labor could be reduced.

• They can use technological gadgets like grinder, mixer, dough maker, ovens and deep fridge at all our outlets.

• They can also freeze all new appointments and rather provide management training, employ idea into business by brain storming with managers.

• They can also give bulk orders as per the requirement to their vendors for the purchase of raw materials as to avail discounts.

• Give stress on home deliveries, outdoor door catering, franchise and birthday clubs.

• Try to explore foreign market.

RECOMMENDATIONS• Discounts can be given on selected items in the festive season as per the

demand observed in past.• Identify their permanent customers and avail them special opportunities.• Special marketing techniques to target new customers during festive season.• Give some benefits to their employees so as to motivate them.• Maintain the quality in spite of the cost cutting methods adopted in the

organization.• Reducing wastage to improve effectiveness.• Get feedback from the customers and implement their ideas on new products.• Strictly follow FIFO method in the time of recession• Innovative branding and packaging for their products can be a effective means.• Improving distribution channel and supply chain can prove to be worthwhile.• Ideas of offering stickers or tattoos with the pack could also be useful,

especially for attracting children.

CONCLUSION Nathu sweets being the popular sweetmeat shop in Delhi

has beaten the economic downturn by focussing on ways to cut costs without comprising on quality so they introduce new work culture in the shop with the cooperation from all the employees for better and efficient functioning of the firm.

•  There is high awareness level for different products amongst the retailers.

• Nathu has been famous for many of its products.(chole bhature and sweets)

• From the data it’s quite clear that while promoting any brand the foremost considerations are good demand & margins followed by regular supply.

• Brand awareness for nathu’s products is very high.
