Map Scales Maps use scales in order for the

viewer to know the distance between different places or objects.

Verbal Scales Verbal scales use words to express

the relationship between the map distance and actual distance

Ex. One inch represents 10 miles.

Graphic Scale A graphic scale shows directly on

the map the corresponding actual distance. This is also known as a bar scale.
