EDUC 224What I am Thinking Now - Expectations

Class Expectations:

1. Attend all class sessions. Notify instructor of absence by email and take responsibility to learn about missed experiences from your group.  In class credit cannot be made up.  Absences may lower your final grade because class activities require participation to earn points. See syllabus.

Beginning: If you don’t think you will be able to attend class on time and/or regularly, explain the difficult you foresee so we can discuss it.

As of Monday September 2nd, 2013, I will start working with 1st and 2nd grade students at Spring Mill elementary school. This is an after school program. This program will be run from Monday to Thursday, 3:45 p.m. to 5:50 p.m. I have accepted to work with the students from Monday to Thursday. I told the program coordinator that on Tuesday, since I have class at 5:30 p.m., I can stay until 5:00 p.m. She agreed with that. I think I will make it to class by 5:30 p.m. But sometimes, I am afraid that I might run a few minutes late because of traffic situation in the evening. However, I will try to arrive on time.

Middle: Explain your attendance pattern to date and whether you need to modify it for the rest of the class.

For the past seven weeks, I have never missed any classes. Most of the time, I will be on time for the class to begin. However, as I am still working with 1st and 2nd grade on Tuesday until 5:00 P.M at Spring Mill elementary school for ASA, I might run a few minutes late because of the traffic situation in the evening. But, I will try to arrive on time for the class to begin.

I did not have any problem with my attendance for this semester. I believe that I arrive to class late for two times (5 minutes late). I was late for class because I got out from work at 5:00 PM, then it took me 30 minutes to drive down to class. Overall, I got perfect attendance.

I believe that in order to enhance my knowledge in this class, it is very important to participate fully in all class sessions. I like group discussion because by sharing ideas and interact with others, I have a chance to learn new things from my peers (two heads are better than one).

I think I am doing okay so far. As I am a slow note taker, I asked the question a lot in my group because I want to make sure that I do not miss anything that was discussed in the group. I will always offer help among my group member. Overall, I participate and cooperate well with my group members.

I think I did not have any problem with class participation for this semester. I got involve with every class activities and get along with my group member well in group work.

I do not think that it is an issue for me. That is because I have taken some English classes and other educational classes that help to me to be able to format my paper. Sometimes, if I forgot how to format my paper, I will visit http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/ to further instruction.

I think I am on the right track so far. But occasionally, I might forget to add the references in my paper. This does not mean that I do not know how to do it, but sometimes, I am such a forgetful person. I do not like myself at all when I forget to do such an important thing in the paper.

I think I am doing great with the requirement of this semester. With paper requirement, since I had been taken several English classes, I am familiar with the format of the paper.

I do not think that there will be a problem for each assignment to be finished with best thinking and writing skills. First, I have set enough time for to finish each assignment for this class. Then, if I have any concern with my writing, I can utilize the writing lab at Learning Center or I can email my professor ahead of time for her to check my paper content or grammar usage.

Middle: How are you doing?

By the middle of this class, I think I am doing well in this class. As I mention at the beginning of this class, I do not think that there will be a problem for each assignment to be finished with best thinking and writing skills. However, there is one thing that I have to admit that I do not spend enough time for my myth buster assignment because I took pretty long time to decided which video clip I should use. Then, with the conflict schedule of my other class assignment due, I just do not have enough time to do more research on my myth buster assignment.

I believe that I have done my personal best with all of my classes during this semester. Most of my assignment, I have put enough effort to complete them. However, there are a few of them that I did not have enough time work on it due to my other obligations in life. Overall, I have done my best with all of my classes.

With clear due date on the class calendar, I believe that I can submit all work on due date. (It is very important for me not to forget these due date). I am a person who like to work ahead of time, but if I do not submit my work before the due date, that means I just completely forget to do it.

I do not have any problem with submitting all work on due date. I usually submit it two or three days before class time.

Beginning: Explain the thinking behind your ranking

I usually prefer the instructor presents the information with some examples because by reading the text alone and trying to figure out the answers by myself, it will take me too long to synthesize the information by myself. I also like to work in group to do investigations even though I sometimes do not feel comfortable with my English speaking skill. However, I realized that by working in group, I can learn more from my peers.

My preferences have not changed much. I still prefer the instructor presents the information with some real life example. But I start to like to figure out the answers on my own by doing my own research because I realized that I have learnt more by doing the research. Most of the time, the instructor does not provide the students with all information that they need to know. Therefore, doing a research is one of the way students can enhance their knowledge. Working with a group is something that I prefer in this class because I realized that this class requires more discussion.

Again my preferences have not much changed. The only thing that has changed from the beginning to the end is figuring out answers on my own by doing my own investigations and research. Sometimes, I felt like I need to challenge myself by doing my own investigations and research to explore more knowledge.

Actually, I like group project, but I do not have a good experience of group work. I remember one of the group projects that I ended up have to finish it alone. It was not a fun project at all. Therefore, I would prefer individual work or group work but get graded on our own work. I do not want to take any advantage of others. Meanwhile, I do not want others to take any advantage of me. It does not matter to me whether my score will be low or high. The most matter for me is how hard I try and how hard I dedicate in the project.

I would also prefer to be graded by writing about what I am doing, thinking, questioning, and/or feeling and why. That is because I get an opportunity to take sometimes to look into my progress of the course.

I do not prefer to be graded by taking quizzes and tests because I am not a good test taker. I always have an anxiety during the test.

I would still prefer to be graded individually regarding to the report, paper, or lab. That is because I do not want to take an advantage of anyone. My writing is poor, but I try my best in each paper.

I start to have a feeling like I will like a group project in this class. It seems to me that everyone in this class is professional and reliable.

As I have mentioned at the beginning regarding to the quizzes and test, I still do not prefer to be graded by those because I am not a good test taker. I am not good at time management during the test or quiz. I always have an anxiety during the test.
