The NAIMUN conference brought together over 150 university students from 16 countries, to recreate the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and woman empowerment (UN WOMAN), the United Nations Educational, scientific, and cultural organization (UNESCO), and the Security Council (SC).

FINAL CONFERENCE REPORT

The Conference officially opened with speeches from the Director of AUNA DR. Fathila Hassouna, the Minister of the Environment MR. Nejib Derouiche, and Secretary General MR. Chouaib Elhajjejji. MR. Nejib Derouiche greeted the students and showed a warm appreciation to the students for visiting Tunisia for the sake of shaping a better world with the young minds.

The North Africa International Model United Nations (NAIMUN) met at The American University in North Africa (A.U.N.A) in Tunis from the 18th to the 22nd of March 2016. N.A.I.M.U.N was the first university level International Model United Nations co-sponsored by and taking place completely at the A.U.N.A. l

Dr. Fathila Hassouna welcomed the students from around the world and reminded them that the UN is ?[their] United Nations.? He challenged them to keep in mind that they will one day lead the world thanks to initiative spirit that reunited students from different background and decided all together to pave the way for a better life and future.

The honor of giving the final speech was given to Chouaib Elhjjejji who acknowledged the importance of the event conducted in the post revolutionary period in Tunisia and especially at the period of the Independence Day in Tunisia, the 20th of March.

NAIMUN?s goal was to provide a highly realistic educational experience to the participants. UN officials reviewed the rules and procedures, and NAIMUN chose topics which coped with the period of the post revolution period. The students then researched their assigned member states, the UN body on which they would be seated, and the topics for their simulation.

MUN is an interactive educational activity in which students simulate the workings of the UN. Each year over 10.000 students on every continent participate in MUN activities. As a simulation of the UN, NAIMUN provided an opportunity for students to both replicate the work of the UN and to view the problems facing the international community from a unique perspective. For an example, representatives had only 4 days to assume the role of their nation's Ambassador and simulate the deliberations of the UN. Besides, the Security committee can feign and fable a crisis situation to prepare students for problem solving in a very limited time. For these reasons, many students claimed that the experience was unique and worth living.

Students all over the globe shared their opinion about the event. The most striking opinions described how this experience has developed their critical minds more than any theories can ever do. The smiles and enthusiasm of participants during and after the event warmed Tunisia?s chilly air with hope and a promising future. The event incorporated social events such as celebrating Tunisia?s Independence Day on the 20th of March. Students all over the globe were amazed by Sidi-Bou-Said which is a town for tourist attraction and is known for its extensive use of blue and white. Moreover, Souvenirs can be bought in the main street. Students were accompanied by our AUNA professor Mr. Ezzeddine Ammar who acted like a tourist guide in Carthage museum. The program was special because it was rich with so many cultural activities that emphasized the role of The Model United Nations in enriching students with a political and cultural simulation that paved their way into the professional life.
