MY OCCUPATIONAL IDENTITYAbigail McIntosh

MUSIC…

Playing music is an occupation that I engage in frequently. I play the guitar but also accompany my guitar playing with singing. I have been part of several music groups and on the odd occasion busked at the local markets. I enjoy spreading my love of music with others and using it as a form of self expression.

FRIENDS…

Friendship is something that I really value. Whether it is socialising, going on holidays, catching up over a coffee or just simply ‘being’ with them.

FLATTING…

Flatting is a new transition for me. Recently I have moved into a flat with three other boys. I am now responsible for my own cooking, cleaning, washing etc.

FAMILY…

Family is a very important part of my life. I am not only a sister to two brothers but also a daughter. Even though we have all moved out of home we ensure that we always keep in close contact.

ANIMALS…

I have a strong love for animals. This was my dog, Henry, who was an important part of my life for 14 years. Even though I have no pets at the moment I look forward to owning some later in life.

SCHOOL YEARS…

I attended Otumoetai College which in located in Tauranga. This gave me so many opportunities, it not only provided me with an education but also a chance to meet friends, take on leadership roles, go overseas and engage in a number of different sports.

GYM…

At the beginning of last year I joined the gym, Anytime Fitness. I try go at least three times a week as a form of exercise to keep my mind and body healthy.

STUDYING…

Currently I am in my second year of studying a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy to become a qualified occupational therapist. Study is a what occupies most of my time, this consists of not only classroom work but also self directed learning and practical work. Also, social events such as the OT ball.

PAID WORK…

I have a part time job at The Body Shop as a retail assistant. This gives me a bit of financial support to help me with my studies.

VOLUNTEER WORK…

I have been involved in a few types of volunteer work. I was a volunteer support person for two years at Special Olympics Ten Pin Bowling. This year I have volunteered to be part of an organisation called Star Jam. I find volunteer work very rewarding and a way of giving something back to the community.
