Scott Melville, the new kid on in town talks about drumming, Academy of Music and Sound (AMS) and his future in this industry he adores. The big topic is his age. He is only 16 years old! That is why every famous band has called this guy ‘The Drumming Prodigy’. RIOT! Had the fortunate opportunity to meet this genius...

Hey Scott, thank for giving us this interview, we really appreciate this. So why did you start drumming in the fi rst place?

‘Hey, Glad to be here, this is my very fi rst interview and i’m kind of nervous, so yeah, this should be fun. Erm... the reasons why i started drumming was because i think that hitting things is fun (laughs) and its to try something different. It all started out when i was in a band at my old school with two of my best friends, and our old drummer was forced

to switch to guitar so i could do the drumming instead, and from then on i realised that i had a good thing go-ing.’

Ok then, very cool story indeed. So you went from this to playing drums for the rest of your life, how did you know that this was for you?

‘Well, at fi rst i self taught myself, and i kept on getting compliments from people telling me how good i was, so i took it into account and had proper lessons.’

Fair point, good choice on your part there, so you had a band in school, but now that you left school your at the Academy of Music and Sound, what’s it like studying there?

‘On the whole, it’s ok and quite fun, but the theory side just makes it a real pain in the ass. And thanks to Live Performance Workshops

and End of Term gigs, i found that its really fun play-ing live.’

So are there any plans for your no doubt excellent future ahead of you?

‘Well the plan is hopefully settle down and get married to the one person i love and truly meant to be with, and making money and a good living doing something i love’

Awww so sweet, ok then, what’s your favourite genres of music?

‘ Erm.... wow there’s alot here. Ok we got Rock, Heavy metal, Classic Rock, Nu-Metal, Black Metal, Death Metal. I could go on forever but there’s way to many i know thanks to AMS’
