The muskrat is a mammal and a species of rodents.The muskrat’s body is covered with long ,brown, thick fur.It weighs 2 to 4 pounds.

The adult muskrat is 16 to 24 inches long. Their tail is half of their length.Their name comes from the “musky” odor they use to mark their territory. They share their habitat with beavers.

Their babies are called kits. Muskrats live in ponds, rivers, and lakes.They eat clams, water plants, and frogs.

Its predators are foxes, minks, raccoons, and even eagles.They build lodges near river banks. To get away from predators, they go in the water and get to their houses, because they’re slow on land and fast in water.
