The West End Comes to Wales High 2016!

Pupils from Wales High School performed one of the world’s most popular musicals in front of over a thousand people. Youngsters took Les Miserable from the West End to the school

stage in a specially edited production of Victor Hugo’s classic tale of revenge and redemption in revolutionary France. Students from Year 7 to the Sixth Form worked tirelessly with

staff to create the scenery, live music, drama and songs of a show that was first performed in London over thirty years ago.

Assistant Head Teacher Paul Stanton took the role of Director for the show and said “I’m so proud of every single student. I don’t think any of us will forget it. We have had some

lovely feedback from people who came along and the thought that we have all had that effect on people only makes the memory more special”. Work on the musical started back in June

this year and Year 13 pupil George Woodward, who played Javert, said, “Despite most of us leaving on a new adventure next summer, there is no chance that we can forget this moment,

standing shoulder to shoulder for one last hoorah”

Head Teacher Pepe Di’Iasio explained “The school musical is a long standing tradition at Wales High. Our production was further evidence of the ways in which Wales High School

provides an outstanding creative, cultural and social dimension to its consistently impressive academic curriculum. We are evidently and honestly committed to development of the whole

child, the whole young person. The production will have left permanent gains and indelible memories with all the young people involved. The school has demonstrated again that the

student experience at Wales is as memorable as it is

effective.

Performing Arts Showcase - Talent abounded on stage on the

evenings of 2nd and 3rd December 2015 when we had our first

ever Performing Arts Showcase in the Grand Hall. An array of

students spanning from Year 7 to Year 13 presented works

across many disciplines: Arts and Photography, Dance, Drama,

Music and Music Technology (as well as the fabulous Staff

Band!). The audience were enthralled and thrilled by the

numerous pieces – including extracts from The Lion King and

The Pirates of the Caribbean – as the first half journeyed

through many continents. After the interval, the 1960s were

revisited and, to tremendous applause, the evening ended with

Rule The World and a promise that Les Miserables next year

will delight to the same degree.
