MTW Welcomes New Faces in Guys and Dolls In this year’s Apple Blossom production, MTW welcomes some fresh faces to our local stage. Playing unlikely lovers Sky Masterson and Sarah Brown, Ernest Palmer joins us for only the second time, and Alanna Hamilton makes her MTW debut. We thought this would be the perfect opportunity to get to know our stars a bit better.

Ernest grew up in Idaho on his family ranch. He didn’t learn until his early twenties that he wanted to be on the stage. He became involved with the Village Theatre and also the 5th Avenue Theatre, where he did numerous productions for each. He initially moved to the valley ten years ago with his partner Michael, wanting a change of pace from the fast paced life of Seattle. They ended up in Leavenworth where they both worked with Leavenworth Summer Theater. Ernest would go on to star in many productions for LST. Last year, Ernest made his MTW debut in Young Frankenstein, stealing the show as the comedic blind hermit.

When not on stage, he can be found salvaging old furniture and lighting and either refinishing, chalk-painting, or turning it into something new. “If you've got any projects...send them my way! Look us up on Facebook, "Design by MNE," says Ernest. “I am thrilled with the level of motivation and professionalism with MTW. And I am so looking forward to playing Sky in Guys and Dolls this May!”

Alanna also found her way to the valley through Leavenworth Summer Theater. She was born and raised in Spokane, and earned her BA in theatre from Whitworth University. She moved to the valley to perform in all three LST shows this last summer. She understudied Maria in The Sound of Music, played the role of Grace in Annie, and was in the ensemble for Bye Bye Birdie. She decided to stay in the valley to learn more about children's theatre, and she has been working with Stage Kids, working as the dialect coach for Bah Humbug, among other roles with the youth theatre company.

Outside theatre she really enjoys a variety of things and is always up for trying something new. She loves spending time with friends, cooking, baking, and watching The Office.

Alanna had this to say about her MTW debut and experience thus far. “So far at MTW, people have been welcoming, kind and encouraging. I really liked the audition process and John and Tiffany are really great to work with. They are so positive, organized, and accommodating and have made the process a lot of fun so far. I can’t wait to put the whole show together and for everyone to get to see it!” By Brady Dundas

Coming this Fall!

Meet the Directors

of Little Shop of Horrors… Before we know it, Audrey Two will be invading the Riverside Playhouse in this fall’s production, Little Shop of Horrors. A team of MTW veteran actors will be combining forces to sit in the dentist… I mean director’s chair. Dave Williams and Vern Smith will be co-directing for the first time. Dave previously co-directed Music Theatre of Wenatchee’s production of The Woes of Being a Wallace, among other projects. Vern is making his directorial debut. But neither are new to the MTW stage. Dave has starred in many shows with MTW including Beauty and the Beast, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Drowsy Chaperone, and Young Frankenstein just to name a few. Vern is well known for his performances in Man of La Mancha, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, and Young Frankenstein. In fact, in last year’s Apple Blossom production, Dave played Dr. Frankenstein, and Vern played his monstrous creation.

Off the stage, both Vern and Dave have served for several years on the MTW board, where Dave serves as our president, and Vern serves as our facilities manager. Vern can also often be found in our scene shop working on sets and inventing new theatre magic and tricks to dazzle our audiences. He recently built several pneumatic castors used to move large set pieces quickly and easily.

Dave has this to say about this production and co-directing with Vern. “It's our first time working together except as Doctor Frankenstein and his creation! I am looking forward to bringing this awesome show to life on stage. Vern and I got to know each other pretty well in Young Frankenstein and we both felt that we would work well together on this production. Vern already has a great vision for the set and how to best use the space at The Riverside Playhouse.”

Auditions will be held August 12th-14th at 6:00 PM at the Riverside. Find us on Facebook or on our website www.mtow.org as auditions approach for more information. By Brady Dundas
