"Underdog" I know something you don't It comes and goes Like the strength in your bones, woah So keep your mind at a rest I'll never let the two of us be friends Does it hurt? Underdog, just look at the mess you made Its such a shame, a shame We had to find out this way You must have the must have moment in your hands And its sad to think that this season I'm gonna change Just not face to face It ain't broke, so don't fix it Underdog, just look at the mess you made Its such a shame, a shame We had to find out this way Revenge loves company, three makes it a crowd So wash your mouth, sit this one out And I'm down, Down but definitely not out (definitely not out) Yeah, why did you call me again? I bet I bet we don't make it (I bet we don't make it) Cause I never take advice from my (friends) Friends in very high places They're only making bets to themselves, selves they're very, very selfish, We'll keep you in mind in the end Underdog, just look at the mess you made It such a shame, a shame We had to find out this way Revenge loves company, three makes it a crowd So wash your mouth, sit this one out

Music Video Narrative Analysis.

The lyrics of this video are spoken as though through the voice of the person wronged. In the video a girl can be seen crying as a couple are kissing in the background, which suggests that she’s been cheated on. The main chorus of this song seems to address the boy whose been cheating:Underdog, just look at the mess you madeIt’s such a shame, a shameWe had to find out this wayThe timing of these lyrics fits in with the shot of the first girl wiping mascara off of her face as she cries, pointing out ‘the mess’ that he had made and seeing it as a shame because of the way she found out. The main singer sings the lyrics as though he’s singing them for the girl whose been wronged, starting the song off with:I know something you don'tIt comes and goesLike the strength in your bones, woahHere he may be referring to the boys strength to resist cheating and how it comes and goes, resulting in his failure and his girlfriend’s finding out – something he doesn’t yet know. In the next verse the singer goes on to remark on how the boy can’t resist what he desires, though he’s apparently often tried to change in the past:You must have the must have moment in your handsAnd its sad to think that this season I'm gonna changeJust not face to faceThe verse ends with the line:It ain't broke, so don't fix itJust as the girl whose been cheated on get’s up to confront the boy. Throughout the next and longest verse the girl can been seen dancing on her own on an empty stage, which fits to the music. This scene could be a metaphor for her building up her strength to let him go and think of her self. This fits with the lyrics:And I'm down,Down but definitely not out (definitely not out)The next lines foreshadow what the girl is about to do as, in the video, her dancing moves from ballet to more drastic moves to match her feelings as their argument goes on. All the while the video cuts back to the other girl who’s in the bathroom applying lip-gloss and admiring herself. The lyrics:I bet I bet we don't make it (I bet we don't make it)And; They're only making bets to themselves, selves they're very, very selfish,Shows the main girls progressive thought track as it gets more and more negative, which leads up to the cuts of her arguing with the boy turning to her kissing the boy in a way to sabotage either relationship that the boy had a chance of having. The last chorus is being sang as the second girl comes out of the bathroom and starts crying as she see’s the boy kissing the first girl. As the chorus and the song finishes it shows the first girl watch the second walk away, and then follows her – leaving the boy alone.
