POSITION DESCRIPTION Position: Music SA Intern Type of Appointment: Permanent part-time 12 month contract Salary: $30,000 p.a. pro rata (plus 9% superannuation) Work Hours: 18 hours per week Study Hours: 6 hours per week (3 hours class attendance) Responsible to: General Manager Music SA Location: St Paul’s Creative Centre 200 Pulteney Street City Purpose of Position: The Music SA Intern assists Music SA staff in the delivery of services and initiatives that support and grow the South Australian original contemporary music industry. Position Objective: The overarching objective of the role is to provide an individual with the opportunity to work in a key music organisation across a range of tasks, and to develop skills and knowledge that will kick-start and build a career in the music industry. Position Strategies: The incumbent will undertake work and study. The Music SA Intern will assist, support and help Music SA staff to identify, initiate and manage activities and projects that meet Music SA’s aims in the areas of artist & practitioner development, music industry development and audience development. The incumbent will work under the direction and supervision of Music SA staff but will be required to complete tasks autonomously. The Music SA Intern will simultaneously work at the Music SA office and commence studying a part-time Certificate IV in Music Business, requiring attendance at night classes once a week during semesters. • Scheduling bookings, artist liaison and marketing for performance events

including Adelaide Airport, Victoria Square, Sunday Vibes, Uni SA Summer Series etc

• SA Music Awards nominations research and event support • Earlier Gigs project development • Live Music Metric data collection • Scene Buzz, CD Reviews & Gig Guide weekly curation and web

administration on musicsa.com.au • Administration & operational support for masterclasses & public forums • Training database content management • Assistance with school holiday workshops • Music SA membership project development • Music SA alumni project • Assistance with preparation of grant aquittals • Gig Buddies project development • Office administration tasks • Other duties as directed

and working on other peoples’ projects where possible. • Commitment to WHS and Child Safe practices. Essential Requirements: 1. Demonstrable basic knowledge and experience of how the music industry

works. 2. Demonstrable ability and desire to develop a diverse range of skills,

including researching, scheduling, data collection, web administration, reporting, promotion and liaison.

3. Demonstrable knowledge of contemporary music acts and live music venues in Adelaide and South Australia across a variety of genres.

 

 

4. Proven ability to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds

(artists, practitioners, students, stakeholders, bloggers, staff and board members), and being able to demonstrate diplomacy, discretion and good humour as circumstances require.

5. Understanding and knowledge of Microsoft Packages. 6. Proven ability to prioritise work, follow-up tasks and complete jobs on time

with minimum supervision. 7. Good writing skills. 8. Good telephone etiquette. 9. Willingness to think creatively to develop innovative solutions to problems. 10. Ability to be a team player who can take direction from multiple managers. 11. Willingness and interest in studying a Certificate IV in Music Business. Special Conditions: • A laptop and office resources will be provided. • Flexible hours can be negotiated. • No overtime, however out-of-hours work will be rewarded with time off as

negotiated beforehand with the General Manager. • Tuition costs associated with the Certificate IV in Music Business will be

provided. • The incumbent will be subject to 3 months probation and an annual

Performance Appraisal. • No on-site parking but Music SA is located close to public transport routes. • A meeting/s with the philanthropist who has funded the Internship. • A presentation to the Music SA board on completion of the Internship. • Police clearance required.
