INTRODUCTION Music of Nepal refers to the various musical genres of Nepal. With more than fifty ethnicities, the music of thiscountry is a highly dispersed phenomenon. Although genreslike pop, rock, folk, and Classical music exist, a huge number of such genres are yet to be cataloged. Many musical bandsexist in Nepal, with a huge number in Kathmandu - most ofthe recent ones focused in pop and rock. Rap has been known to emerge on the charts from time to time. Also bands have revolunished the music of Nepal. 5. BANSURI MANOSE SINGHNepals Musical Ambassador to the WorldThe bansuri (Nepali: ,) is a transverse alto flute Nepal madefrom a single hollow shaft of bamboo with six or seven fingerholes. 8. DAMAHAA damaha (Nepali:) is a drum made from leather and wood. It is played bystriking with a stick. It is one of the instrument included in the Panche Baaja. 9. DAMPHU DRUMDamphu, or Damfoo,(Nepali: ) is a double-sided disk-shaped drum topped withleather and with a long wooden handle.This is a very rare musical instrument belongingto the indigenous Tamang Community. Damphu is a percussion instrument similar to abig tambourine. This instrument is used to melodiously play Tamang selo. The popularancient folk instrument Damphu and an original rhythm of Tamang Selo have uniqueimportance and influence among other Nepalese cultural folk music. This instrument isvery easy to play and easy to learn. 10. DHIMAYDhimay or Dhimaya (Nepal Bhasa: ) is a double-headedcylindrical drum with a big wooden or metallic body. It a typeof struck drum, technically a membranophone 11. JHYALIJhyali or Jhyalis (Nepali: ) are traditional folk instruments fromNepal. They are a kind of Percussion instruments similar to cymbals.Jhyalis are used are a pair of round plates which are made from alloys.They are used in folk as well as classical music in Nepal. 12. MADALThe Madal (Nepali:), double-headed drum of Nepalese origin (of theMembranophone family), used mainly for rhythm-keeping in Nepalese folk music, isthe most popular and widely used hand drum in Nepal.The Madal consists of acylindrical body with a slight bulge at its center, closed on both ends (the sides areoften referred to as "heads", one head is smaller than the other).Nepali musician Ranjit Gazmer introduced this instrument to Bollywood music and has usedit in many Bollywood songs such as Hum dono do premi duniya chhod chale, Kanchha rekanchhi re and many others. 13. PANCHE BAAJAA set of Panche Baaja which are commonly used in hilly region of Nepal.Panche Baaja (Nepali:)is a set of five traditional Nepali musicalinstruments that are played during holy ceremonies like marriage. Panche Baajasare usually played by Damais, a Dalit caste according to Hindu tradition. Theexact collection of a panche bajas components include The jhyali, tyamko, ordholak (drums), damaha (kettledrum), narsiha (a long horn-like instrument),Shehnai (a pipe instrument), and Karnal, (a big-mouthed instrument). 14. SARANGIThe Sarangi (Nepali: ) is a folk Nepalese string instrument. UnlikeClassical Indian Sarangi, it has four strings and all of them are played.Traditionally, in Nepal, Sarangi was only played by people of Gandarva orGaine cast, who sings narrative tales and folk song.[1] However, in presentdays, its widely used and played by many. 15. TUNGANAThe tungana is a plucked string instrument from Nepal. It is made from asingle carved piece of wood and topped with a skin. They usually have 4strings. 16. FAMOUSSINGERS OF NEPAL 17. RAM KRISHNA DHAKALNARAYAN GOPAL NARAYAN GOPAL IS A LEGEND IN NEPALI MUSIC.MAYA GARNE 20. NIMA RUMBARAJU LAMA Nima Rumbas and Raju Lama has been famous for their pop style. Nima Rumbas KAGBENI(Movie) was a hit and PARKHAI MA one of the most famous Nepali movie. 21. DIBYA SUBBAPRASHANT TAMANGDibya Subba has revolunished the Nepali singing and PrashantTamang needs no description after the title of Indian Idol. He hasalso been involved in Nepali movies too. 22. But ithas now reached hip-hop and pop. We living in theurbanized area of Nepal feel like folk music and oldgeneras of Nepali music has lost. But we forget thatmore than 60 % of Nepals land is suburbanized. And inthose places people dont prefer music which we listen.Also contribution of people belonging from lower casteis more towards music. We can see the impact of westernmusic too in Nepali music. 26.
