Background• One of the most popular music genre , originated as “Rock and Roll”
during 1950 in USA.• Geared up after 1960s.• Heavy influence from Blues, Rhythm and Blues (RnB) and Country
music.• Electric Guitar, Drum and Bass as the major instrument.• Hard Rock, Blues Rock, Progressive, Punk Rock, Glam Rock,
Alternative Rock, Metal etc.• Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Jimi
Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Metallica
Rock Music In Nepal• Started during 1970s, Hippies in Thamel.• Bands used to cover the songs of western bands• No own compositions during 70s to 80s.
• Pop rock element like The Influence and Crossroads.• Own compositions
• 1990s, where the Rock begins.• Newaz, Cobweb, 1974 AD, Mukti and Revival, Robin and Looza.
• Cobweb, as a popular mainstream rock band produced its first commercial music album.
• Rock was not accepted in Nepalese society then.• Drugs, anger,violence etc
• No assurance of relying upon music.• Talented musicians quit in long run.

Research Question• The viewpoint of Nepalese society regarding Rock Music is not that
positive, How far the perspective has been changed.• Acceptance of Rock music in Nepalese family and society.
Limitation• Less number of respondents exposed to this genre.• Some information are not included due to time and budget
constraint.• Research was conducted in Kathmandu valley only.• Name and other details of respondents are not mentioned and kept
confidential to show ethical behavior.• Secondary data used might be influenced with some other factors
and is influenced by the original data collector
Literature Review• Rock In Kathmandu• Cassettes technology promoted music all over the world.• Ratna Recording Corporation, oldest companies to produce
cassettes.• In 1990s• Original and Pirated version from India, Hongkong, Singapore
were available. • Female involvement in music production was rare.• Male singers appeared in Rock attire, Female were made to
portray cultural attire.• Nepali Rock Music slammed as copy of English rock.• Not possible too get Nepalese flavor
• Thamel, as a major hub for musicians.

Major findings• Faces trouble while playing.• No proper jam room for bands, artist. Can’t afford soundproof walls.• Parents support has been increasing.• Depends on parents money to buy CD’s, artist merchandise.• Support financial aspects through playing in clubs and pubs.• Alternative Profession to aid fund for buying instruments, gears,
