Music magazine questionnaire results

Here are the results from my questionnaire about music magazines. I asked 15 people to get a wide spread audience.

This shows me that the majority of people I questioned are aged 16-20 and I know from looking at my results that this was the age range that most read music magazines. This shows me that my target audience is ‘late teens’ which is who I wish to aim it at.

More of the people that answered the questionnaire were male and also, a higher proportion of males liked EDM which shows me that a male audience is more appropriate for the magazine. On the other hand, a higher proportion of females bought and read music magazines.

I wanted to find out who liked which genre to give me a clear idea of target audience. Most of the peoples whose favourite genre was dance music were late teens and male. This gives me a really clear idea that my target audience should be male and aged 16-20.

I wanted to have a look to see if people who did not choose dance as their favourite genre still liked it and would still perhaps purchase my music magazine. The results were very positive with 8 people saying that they like it and another 3 saying they don’t mind it. This shows me that even though not everyone’s favourite genre is dance, they would still possible buy it.

I was very pleased with the results of this question. 13 people do buy magazines and in fact only one of the males that I questioned has never bought a music magazine. This person was in the 21-30 age range which bring me closer t0 the target audience of male aged 16-20

I wanted to see what sort of price I could put my magazine at. It seems the most common price was £2-£2.99 which makes this price a very viable price to start at for my magazine as this was I will make the most profit with the most people.

This question was designed to see what sort of articles people would like to see in a magazine. This was ideal for finding out what articles I should put on the cover. It seems the most popular by far was interviews so I will make sure to include them on my front cover to attract the widest audience possible.

This question gave me a bit of insight into my target audience. The majority of the people who answered the questionnaire go to or have been to gigs. This shows me, along with the results from the previous question that including gig dates would be something that the readers would be interested in.

This question gave me further insight into my target audience. It shows me that almost everyone that took part in the questionnaire goes to or has been to festivals. Festivals are a huge part of the EDM world and I believe it would be a very good idea to include festival details in my magazine.

After the previous question I wanted to find out which festivals people would like to see information about the most. It would be a good idea to include the popular ones like Ultra and Tomorrowland but also the less well known ones so that people can get info on them and perhaps increase their popularity.

As we can see from this bar chart, an article on Calvin Harris would be the most welcomed. Martin Garrix is quite high considering he is not that well known other than one single – ‘Animals’. People may be interested in finding out more.

As we can see from this chart, interviews are the most popular section in music magazines. This would mean that advertising interviews would be the ideal article to put on the cover because this would draw the most people in. Behind the scenes and posters have also shown to be popular. I could include a free poster with it.

I wanted to ask this question to clarify that they would turn to their chosen page first. Generally they would turn to the interviews first with just a small minority turning to the shorter articles such as the festival and gig info. The results of this have really shown the most popular article – interviews.

I wanted to find out the best colours to use throughout my magazine. As you can see, black white and blue were the most popular. I expected this because they are the types of colours you relate to clubs – black because they are dark, white from the lights and strobe and blue as electric blue is often used in club lighting.

To find out the most important part of the cover in terms of attracting customers I asked this question. As you can see, the imagery is the clear winner which shows the importance of a good photo for the cover. Then we had the name of the magazine, it will have to be catchy and memorable without being too cheesy.

These were the results I got from my questionnaire. I will be able to use these results to make my magazine as good as it can be as I

can now see what people like to see in a music magazine.

Finally, as a follow up from the previous question, I wanted to find out the name that people liked the most. It was close between ‘Strobe’ and ‘Electrix’ but ‘Strobe’ just got ahead. This is good as that was my favourite name too and I have a few ideas of how I can make the font and art around the font memorable.
