Masthead The masthead is always at the top which is evident in this magazine.

It is always the largest text. It is a unique font different to every other font in the magazine. It is usually a different colour than the rest of the text.

Main coverline Always relates to the cover image which is shown on this front cover

It is always the biggest coverline and is the biggest text other than the masthead.

Can usually be a quote that relates to the article or cover image.

Skyline Always at the very top of the magazine above the masthead. Can contain a coverline or a positioning statement. Can relate to the cover image or an article.

Buzz word Gives the reader an incentive to buy the magazine. Can relate to a gift that will attract the reader and to get their attention.

Usually inside a puff and near the masthead.

Coverlines Give an insight into magazine articles. Never cover the face of the coverstar. Names of people are usually bigger. Quotes are commonly used.

Barcode & Price The barcode is usually located at the bottom of the front cover and the price is usually next to it.

They are usually quite small and don’t draw the attention away from the main image and cover lines.

Main image Main image is usually direct address to make the person look like they are looking at the reader.

This will engage the audience as the image seems to be looking at them which will make them want to buy the magazine.

The image can also contribute the mise en scene of the magazineand gives the reader an idea of the genre of music

Positioning statement The positioning statement positions the magazine within the marketplace and is aimed at persuading the customer to buy it.

Puff A puff contains an incentive that is aimed at persuading the audience to buy the magazine by engaging them and giving them something to attract them to buy it.

Direct address The main cover image will always be in direct address. This means that they will be looking straight at the audience making eye contact making it feel as though they are looking at them.

Incentive There is usually an incentive that will attract the audience to buy the magazine. They are usually located inside a puff and mostly contain buzz words.

Issue information There is always information about the magazine issue like the date it was published and the price.

Colour scheme The colour scheme is kept the same throughout the magazine and is present on the front cover. There are usually only a few colours and it is mostly a simple design.
