Dearest Desautels Entering Class of 2015,

We’re proud to let you know- you’ve made it. You’re among the elite in perhaps the most prestigious business program in the country among some of the most ambitious and impressive people you’ll ever meet. You’re about to embark on one of the most exciting, insane, memorable, meaningful and epic journeys of your lives and we could not be more excited to welcome you into our crazy Bronfman family. It’s hard for us to paint you a full picture of what the Faculty of Management is really going to be like: the class, frosh, the cases and competitions, fundraisers, and all the shenanigans in between. We’re excited though that you’re just a few short weeks away from experiencing it all for yourselves.

In the meantime, we’ve helped prepare this information package to help give you your first little taste of the Desautels Faculty of Management. We’re the mentors of the First Year Involvement Team (FIT) of 2015, a team that’ll be comprised of the best and brightest that Management will have to offer this year- you guys! As a part of the Management Undergraduate Society (MUS) we will help you to engage your entering class in Management life, planning and attending events, facilitating involvement, and getting to know everything that McGill has to offer. The best decision we made at McGill was getting involved early and starting by joining FIT and we sincerely hope that you’ll be joining us this year!

The First Year Involvement Team (FIT) was created in 2011 with the main objective of increasing first year involvement within the MUS. By acting as liaison to first years, FIT promotes events to first year students in order to increase their awareness of faculty events, clubs and organizations. FIT aims to make first years feel more integrated within the management community right from the start, and help ease the transition to university life and Montreal.

In addition, FIT has thrown their own events, such as an annual First Year Apartment Crawl, where students, in teams of 10, explore the McGill Ghetto in true Management fashion (something you will soon discover for yourselves!). In the past year, FIT also worked alongside the Engagement Committee (another MUS club) to organize FIT’s very first party at a local venue. This was done with the intention of

encouraging other first year students to reunite with their frosh group, and take a break from studying before winter finals. We are also planning to organize free tutorials, hot chocolate during exams this year, amongst numerous other initiatives. Stay tuned!

Our goal, essentially, is to engage with first year students and involve them within the Bronfman community and help make them a part of this family.

5 REASONS TO JOIN FIT

1. Getting involved early is the best decision you could make in your first year.By getting involved in faculty engagement early on a junior level you lay the groundwork to open doors to tremendous opportunities in later years. Since the FIT teams works closely with the MUS executives as one of the subcommittees, it is a great way to get an inside look at the way that the MUS runs and see which parts of Management life speak most to you and your interests

2. It’s an amazing way to try out a wide range of management events.As a FIT member you gain experience with an extensive scope of styles of management programs- from wine and cheese events and apartment crawls to conferences and competitions FIT members will engage, and play a leadership role in almost all the styles of events that Desautels has to offer.

3. You get to know your entering class! Each member of the FIT team will work closely, communicating, with other members of their entering class to enhance engagement in the faculty.

New this year- the #FITcomms program: each member of FIT will be responsible for communicating with around 40 Desautels students about faculty events on an ongoing basis, keeping them informed, engaged, and meeting fellow management students in the process.

4. You’re guaranteed 15 new best friends.By nature of FIT’s weekly meetings the team bonds quickly and becomes an unreal #crew (#weareallbestfriends)

5. Because WHY NOT?The application process is a ton of fun, it’s super easy to apply, and there’s no way you’ll regret it.


ALEXANDRE PERRON (Quebec Student)First Year Involvement Team Co-Chair 2014-15

First years, welcome to another chapter of your life. I remember how excited I was when I arrived in Montreal for my Molson Hall move-in; everything felt so new despite the fact that I have visited Montreal a hundred times already. Coming from Quebec City, McGill immersed me in a totally new world that I have grown to love and nurture. Studying at McGill and Montreal has exposed me to a wide range of people, cultures, ideas, and experiences that I have challenged the way I act and think. I have grown a lot this past year, and will continue to do so over the rest of my studies at McGill.

BE PROACTIVEBronfman has a lot to offer for new students, but it will be your responsibility for you to reach out and get the most out of what student life has to offer. I consider my first year to be such a raging success because of all the clubs and activities I actively pushed myself to do. Case League, DMLS, MMICC, the different business clubs and societies, guest speakers, MUS Concert Series, Carnival, the Case Competitions, 4à7, Casco, Phassion, and much more are all amazing ways to reach out and get involved with your faculty. However, the burden is on your shoulders; it is easy to miss out on these opportunities if you don’t actively pursue them.

GET INVOLVEDIn my opinion, the best way to immediately get involved with the MUS and Bronfman is to join the FIT team (First-Year Involvement Team). FIT will get you involved fresh out of Frosh and open the faculty to you early on. Through my experience with FIT last year, I have met and worked with the most wonderful people. If you have any questions concerning FIT or the faculty in general, don’t hesitate to talk to any former FIT member during Frosh, we’ll be happy to help.

On a parting note, enjoy your first weeks of school. The vibe I remember from my entry to college life felt a lot like summer camp: making new friends, discovering new things, and simply having a blast in Montreal. College truly is the best time of your life but its short duration is bittersweet: it’ll be over before you know it but each moment spent, successes and failures endured, and friends made will be so much more valuable.

CHARLOTTE JENKINS (American Student)First Year Involvement Team 2014-15

I grew up in a suburb outside of Chicago, and coming to McGill, I knew no one. Hardly anyone from my high school had even heard of McGill, nonetheless traveled to Canada to attend university. I found out about McGill because my mother was an alumni, and I soon figured out that McGill was my dream school and the place where I was meant to be. It was scary when I realized I was headed to a city where I didn’t have any friends waiting for me. However, by trusting the system and taking the initiative to get involved at McGill and more specifically in the Faculty of Management, I found my place. All the nervousness and awkwardness that I experienced in the beginning of the year was worth it, because I am absolutely obsessed with this school and the people that I have met here.

At our first FIT meeting, we were told to look around because we were surrounded by the kids that would one day become our best friends, and in some cases, our family. It is crazy how true that statement actually turned out to be. I ended my first year surrounded by my best friends, most of which I had met either in FIT or because of FIT. I genuinely have no idea where I would be without the experiences and people FIT has brought me. We got the chance to be immersed in the school, and make friends with kids of all ages in the faculty thanks to the FIT events. We got exposure to planning and running the concert series, and hosted other fun events for the first years at McGill. We even got the chance to dance as a group in the CASCO charity dance event. Joining FIT was one of the best decisions I made during my first year.

In another effort to make friends, and to have a similar college experience as my friends back home, I also decided to go through sorority recruitment. Joining the sorority actually helped me meet a lot of management girls who right off the bat made me feel comfortable studying on Bronfman second floor and attending 4a7. The Greek community was a way for me to once again, make McGill feel a little bit smaller. The fact that not many people join Greek life makes it that much more special, and that much easier to make friends. I strongly encourage people to go through recruitment or at least give Greek life a chance!

Another way I met plenty of people was through McGill events, like 4a7, Carnival, and Frosh. As a first year 4a7 initially seems scary. It’s a hot basement filled with university students you have never seen or met before. But I strongly suggest you try to find a friend, bring your frosh mug, and come to 4a7 as soon as you can. Not only is the beer cheap but you will make so many friends while feeling a strong sense of Bronfman pride. Frosh also may initially feel intimidating, but is seriously the best part of your first year experience! Everyone attends Frosh to make friends and have fun so make sure you’re not afraid to do the same.

Overall, it may be hard at first to make friends; just know that if you push yourself to be social or at least get involved in the beginning, your McGill experience will be amazing and you will realize that you will never want to leave. You will soon learn that McGill is unlike anything your friends at home will experience, especially if you are coming from the states.


MAXIMILLIAN GAIRARD (International Student)First Year Involvement Team 2014-15

TRANSITIONMy name is Max, I’m half English/half French, and I completed my A-Levels at Harrow School, London. I went straight into U1 and at first had no idea how the whole course/credit system worked. My transition from school to university wasn’t particularly difficult since I have been use to being away from my family as I was at a boarding school. Moving away from all your old friends and family seems like a terrifying feeling but you quickly meet a whole load of new people and making really good friends at McGill.

University is a lot more fun than school and you can pretty much do what you want without some annoying teacher punishing you. However, the workload is a lot harder, you are the one responsible for making your notes in/out of the classroom and for making sure you do all the readings necessary. I advise you all to get ahead, do your readings before class, the exercises after and then you will nail your first year. Managing your time and balancing out your life appropriately is the key to success and enjoying the best time of your life at McGill.

HOW I MET PEOPLE AND GOT INVOLVEDMoving to a new country may seem like a challenge but you will soon realise you have settled in really well. The city of Montreal and McGill is so lively with events and parties almost every day of the week, so these are the best places to go and socialise with everyone and make new friends.

1) Frosh Week – One of the greatest weeks of all time! This week gives you opportunity to meet the people in your faculty and all the events/clubs the Uni has to offer. Attend all the events especially power hour and beach day. Keep in touch with your leaders and people you meet because you will likely randomly see them around all the time.

2) First Year Involvement Team – This club opens so many doors. You will meet so many people and become so well connected whilst being apart of organising MUS events.

3) 4a7 – Every Thursday, the Bronfman basement turns into a bar for students ($1 beers). You will meet even more people here and it’s a great place to go chill with your friends.

4) Clubs/Societies – Join one of these because they offer an excellent chance to learn something new. Extra-Curriculars are extremely important with regards to your CV and employers, so get involved.

MY EXPERIENCEMy first year at McGill was amazing I met so many people, had unforgettable experiences and had the time of my life. Be as sociable as possible, study hard and everything will go well. Don’t miss out on going to events and meeting new people because networking is extremely important in life. Don’t miss out on all the opportunities the Management faculty has to offer.

MADELINE BOYD (Ontario Student)First Year Involvement Team Co-Chair 2014-15

Hi froshies! My name is Madeline Boyd and I am from Ottawa, Ontario. Although home is not far from Montreal and McGill, moving to a new place and meeting new people can be pretty scary. I promise you that the initial shock of move-in day and Frosh Week will quickly be replaced by lots of fun and great friends.

My first piece of advice to you is to attend Frosh. It is so important to attend as many Frosh events as you possibly can. Everyone is in the same boat as you, and looking to make new friends. I made some of my best friends during the very first few days of Frosh. Coming from Ontario, lots of my high school friends also decided to come to McGill. If you also have friends coming with you to Montreal, try to split up and reach out to other people. I assure you that investing in new friends will definitely pay off.

FIT was one of the first things that I got involved in almost immediately after Frosh Week. The FIT Scavenger Hunt was such a fun way to get to know the McGill campus and the city of Montreal. Once I was on the FIT team, I decided to run for a co-chair position which required me to give a speech in front of the other 19 members. This was a pretty intimidating at the start, but definitely a risk I’m glad I took. I had the opportunity to plan several fun events like apartment crawls, a meet and greet with some of your Desautels professors and help out with some concert series events. I would highly recommend not only being a part of the FIT family but also running for co-chair. It’s so much fun and a great learning experience in planning events, managing a budget and leadership.

If you choose to be a part of the FIT family, don’t let your involvement stop there! There are hundreds of clubs, teams and committees to get involved in within the MUS. There is something for everyone, and the more you get involved in, the more people you will meet and friends you’ll make. But remember – don’t spread yourself too thin! Managing your time at McGill is key. Don’t be afraid to reach out to older students (the whole ex-FIT fam is great) for advice on how to succeed in being sociable, involved and successful in the year to come!

Pick up your McGill ID! Say cheese for the camera at Service Point on Rue McTavish. It’s the perfect place to start and maybe even meet a few people while you’re waiting in line! Be sure to go early, because the line gets pretty long.

Make sure Service Point has what it needs. Information may include: permanent data forms, passport copies, payment details, etc. Check Minerva if you are unsure of what you must present.

2Get to know your new home! If you’re in a Rez or a new apartment, unpack and familiarize yourself with what will be your home for the next 8 months, and most importantly introduce yourself to EVERYONE you meet!

3Set up your mobile phone! Head to the St. Catherine street (two blocks below campus) and to set up your plans. The companies on Lower Field during Frosh tend to narrow your search for the most appropriate plans for students.

Your McGill experience begins right when you step onto campus the first day so here are a few things to know so you can make the best of those first few days!

Set up a bank account! Make an appointment at an appropriate bank. Just a note: Most of the ATM’s on campus are with RBC if you want to avoid withdrawal fees. However, Bronfman is located around numerous other banks as well.

Explore the campus! Take some time to see where your classes will be! Check out the Bronfman Building, a place you’ll get to know very well throughout your years at Desautels.

Register for your courses! Make sure you have registered for your fall semester courses before add/drop period ends. Visit the BCom Office (in Bronfman) to clarify what courses you must take, and make sure the courses you’re taking satisfy your requirements. Also, don’t be afraid to ask older students for help! Registration is done on MINERVA (https://mymcgill.mcgill.ca). MAJOR TIP: Use McGill’s Visual Schedule Builder to plan your schedule (https://vsb.mcgill.ca)

1. Read the Fall Involvement Package and attend the First Year Involvement Info Session! We want you to get involved, and there are special positions just for First-Years.

2. Attend Clubs & Activities Night! This will happen within the first few weeks here. It’ll show you all the different things the MUS have to offer.

Introduce yourselves to everyone! It’s so important to meet as many people as you can these first few days. You are all in the same situation and experiencing a whole new world of adventures. This is just the beginning of the time of your life so enjoy every minute! Be friendly and outgoing; find people that you have classes with, and most importantly HAVE FUN!

St.Laurent, Crescent and the Old Port are the main nightlife hubs, the city is filled with great bars, famous clubs and awe-some concert venues. What does the Bronfman Building have to offer?

The 2nd Floor – Newly renovated; the second floor has a lobby with numerous tables and chairs for group study projects. Around the corner you can also find a quiet study area furnished with mini-cubicles for individual work and computers as well as meeting rooms you can reserve for group projects.

The Basement – Another study area with tables and chairs for group work. If you are looking for some distraction from whatever you are working on, the basement is perfect. It’s a social area where you can choose to either study or hang out.

Bronfman Caf – The go-to place for a quick meal or a good snack between classes. New this year, the split concept will feature both a burrito shop and sushi bar!

Dave’s Store – An student run store within the basement, Dave Store’s offers everything you’ll ever need (cheap snacks, school supplies, Desautels apparel) - Dave’s is definitely a place to check out.

Are there any good places where people eat close to Bronfman?

Super Sandwich – A Bronfmanite Secret. If you can find it, you will love it. Super Sandwich is a sandwich shop / dépanneur that is only a block away on Peel in the basement of the Cartier building. They serve the quickest and cheapest sandwiches (>$4) in Montreal on the go, so when you’re out of flex dollars, head here! Can’t find it? Ask an upper year management student for directions.

Smart Burger – Located on the corner of McGill College and Sherbrooke, this burger joint is a great way to find great food for great prices. For only $10, prepare to enjoy a burger with some of the best fries of Montreal where you’ll feel so full you will hate yourself.

One of the unique things about the faculty of management compared to any other faculty, is the number of opportunities the Management Undergraduate Society provides. We are proud to say that we have the most clubs per capita than any other faculty! We have compiled a list of most of the MUS clubs, so you can figure out what you want to get involved in now!

THE BULL & BEAR The Bull & Bear is McGill’s premier student-run magazine publication. Covering campus affairs, breaking news, and student lifestyle, The Bull & Bear offers a wide range of coverage - from written coverage to photography and videography - across all undergraduate faculties and across all platforms.

THE MANAGEMENT INVESTMENT CLUBInterested in finance? The MIC is a comprehensive finance club open to students of any faculty focusing for both Investment Management and Banking. MIC strives to educate students about the financial markets through seminars, speakers-series, info sessions, newsletters, forums and workshops. Moreover, they hold a stock simulation during the winter semester.

THE DESAUTELS ACCOUNTING SOCIETYDAS is the central hub for accounting students, organizing recruitment-related activities and acting as a liaison between accounting firms and students. Not only does DAS prepare students for future accounting endeavors, they also promote the accounting profession and its designations. Check DAS out if you would like to know more about the accounting field!

DESAUTELS SPORTS MANAGEMENT CLUBThe Desautels Sports Management Club (DSMC) acts as a student-run link between the sports management industry and the McGill student body. DMSC’s main goal is to provide students with a deeper understanding of the sports management industry through conferences, speakers and engagement pursuits.

OUTLOOK ON BUSINESSThis organization was founded to help gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer/ questioning students and their “allies” (friends of LGBTQ-identifying students) in management to learn, understand and manage workplace sexual diversity concerns. OUTlook collaborates with Career Services as well as other clubs to host various events to educate students on how to promote an open and accepting organizational culture in the workplace.

THE MARKETING NETWORKCalling all potential marketing students! MMN is a well-established organization that connects motivated, creative, and ambitious marketing students from the faculty with the corporate world. Networking is key in marketing, and MMN offers numerous opportunities for this. The MMN aims to connect undergraduates with the corporate world and offers workshops and case competitions as well to improve skills.

INTERNATIONAL MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATIONThe mission of IMA is to promote the study of IM by simulating an atmosphere for students to hone the skills needed to succeed and be socially responsible. IMA organizes debates and business competitions to promote the exchange of ideas/knowledge between students, alumni and professionals. Additionally, you can check out info sessions and cultural events by IMA where students share their unique experiences abroad!

MANAGEMENT CONSULTING ASSOCIATIONDon’t know what consulting is? MCA strives to educate and prepare students interested in consulting and its related fields. By creating strong relationships with consulting firms and organizations, MCA provides valuable information, opportunities and resources for potential consulting students.

SUSTAINABILITY NETWORKShaping the business leaders of tomorrow, MSN supports responsible business practices and explores issues regarding sustainable development, corporate governance and the relationships between economic/social/environmental stakeholders. MSN provides various platforms to discuss and debate the need for responsible and sustainable business practices.

DESAUTELS EXCHANGE NETWORKThe objective of “DEN” is to connect current students in the Desautels faculty with incoming exchange students to help welcome and integrate them into the study body. Through social/cultural gatherings and a local buddy system, DEN strives to provide students with a home away from home.

MANAGEMENT ENTREPRENEURS SOCIETYMES offers support to students and through advising and funding potential business ideas. JUNIOR ENTERPRISE DESAUTELSJunior Enterprise Desautels at McGill is the first undergraduate student-run consulting firm in Canada. Join our team and get a chance to take part in real business!

DESAUTELS BUSINESS TECHNOLOGY CLUBThis is the perfect network for Information Systems students wishing to enhance their skills and develop lasting relationships with the business technology community. DBTC encourages students to expand their network by organizing events such as cocktails, meet-and-greets, get-togethers and workshops with influential professionals in the industry.

CASE LEAGUE (FIT RECOMMENDATION)Case League is your entry point into the world of case analysis and presentation. Are you interested in representing McGill at external case competitions? Networking with industry professionals working in consulting? Meeting sharp like-minded individuals across the faculty? Come learn crucial skills in analysis, teamwork and presentation to help you in classes, external competitions as well as recruitment.

PHILANTHROPIC EVENTS

CASCOThe Commerce and Administration Student Charity Organization (CASCO) is a student run philanthropic club that has helped raise money for the Montreal Children Hospital Foundation. In the past 13 years, they have raised over $240,000 for this amazing charity through some of the most popular student run in the McGill management community. You should all look forward to seeing your friends make a fool of themselves at the Charity Fashion Dance show, and for CASCO’s much anticipated apartment crawl in the fall semester.

MCGILL CANCER AUCTIONHeld during Carnival, Cancer Auction is one of the MUS’s iconic philanthropic events, raising over a record $30,000 last year. Every year Cancer Auc-tion is able to create a unique atmosphere where Carnival participants understand the significance of the cause while still having a good time. Every year, an incredible array of items such as plane tick-ets, a signed Habs jersey, Michael Kors accessories are auctioned.

P[H]ASSIONP[h]assion is a charity fashion show held annually at the end of March highlighting local designers in or-der to raise awareness and funds for the AIDS Com-munity Care Montreal (ACCM). P[h]assion channels the creative and innovative attitude of the fashion industry to inspire a new trend of humanitarian ef-forts among today’s youth. P[h]assion parties are also raised throughout the year to create hype and raise money.


SOCIAL EVENTS

MANAGEMENT CARNIVALCarnival is MUS’s largest event of the year. It brings to-gether around 1000 students from all of McGill’s facul-ties. There were 14 teams of 70 participants competing against each other in a variety of crazy and fun events. The 7 memorable nights were filled with a great mix of traditional staple events, such as Boat Races, Power Hour, and Beer Olympics, along with new events such as Iron Chef Bartending. Carnival week creates a sense of camaraderie amongst students from all faculties and ages, ultimately unifying the campus community. Last year, themed after the Winter Classic, Carnival helped raise a record $30,000 with the Cancer Auction!

4À7One of the many benefits you have as a Management student is no classes on Fridays. In order to start your weekend off right, come join us for a Management tradition between 4pm and 7pm on Thursdays in the Bronfman Basement. Come socialize with your friends and celebrate finishing a week of classes over cold beverages and great music. With $1 grilled cheeses, a variety of cheap beers and two bars – you don’t want to miss out. It’s a great opportunity to relax, catch-up and meet your fellow Bronfmanites. See you there!

DESAUTELS ENGAGEMENT COMMITTEEThe Desautels Engagement Committee (DEC) was a new initiative last year responsible for implementing smaller, new social events or activities throughout the year specifically for the Desautels community. The main goal for this committee is to improve on intra-faculty and inter-university relations with other business schools in the region, and bring the Bronfman community closer as a whole. Be sure to keep an eye out for all DEC events throughout the year, such as the Welcome Back BBQ to Hockey Nights in Bronfman!

MUS CONCERT SERIES

The MUS Concert Series was a new initiative this year that took this campus by storm, creating the best rag-ers and bringing in world-class DJ’s to play for McGill-exclusive crowds. With continuously sold-out shows throughout the year, these concerts are definitely not something you want to miss! The MUS Concert Series kicked off last year by welcoming the Dutch duo - Vicetone - in the 3rd MUS Welcome Back Concert that pre-viously brought in names such as Avicii. It offered a one-of-a-kind haunted night as students entered a world of mystery and intimacy at the semi-formal MasqueRAGE Ball for Halloween. The Concert Series reinvented Valentines Day for Montreal, where McGill snagged the first Canadian stop on The Chainsmokers #Selfie Tour, and then capped off the year with the Year-End Concert, featuring Beatport chart-topper TJR, for a crowd covered head-to-toe in glow paint. The MUS Concert Series revolutionized McGill and Montreal nightlife for students, with only bigger and better shows coming your year.

TIP: The 5th Annual MUS Welcome Back Concert will take place on Friday, September 11th 2015! Tickets can be purchased online bundled with your Frosh Registration, and as the entering Management class of 2015, you will be able to get these at reduced prices! Last year’s Welcome Back Concert sold out 3 weeks before the show, so we highly encourage you to get them while you can as part of your Frosh package!


EMCUniting over 200 passionate undergraduate students from different universities, the nationally-renowned Desautels Entertainment Management Conference (EMC) holds a series of events pertaining to the many exciting fields that fall under the category of Entertainment and Lifestyle management; such as the music, hospitality, nightlife, festival, advertising, television, and film industries. Over the course of two days, participants have the great opportunity to attend interactive panels with top leaders of the entertainment world and compete in a comprehensive negotiation simulation.

FBUFashion Business Uncovered is a daylong conference created by McGill students in collaboration with the Soutar Career Services and the MUS. With the goal of increasing the visibility of the different opportunities available within the fashion industry, FBU offers a number of panels of speakers from different backgrounds as well as offering networking opportunities to potentially help you get started in a career in fashion.

Winner of Innovation of the year for The Canadian Association of Business Students, this groundbreaking conference is one not to miss!

DMLSExclusive to first years, the Desaultels Management Leadership Seminar (DMLS) is an excellent opportunity for students to familiarize themselves with case competitions. Throughout this two-day seminar, participants learn from dozens of speakers ranging from top executives to senior partners, test their critical thinking, practice their presentation skills, and network with peers and representatives from the corporate world. Not to mention the opportunity to present their cases to judges consisting of alumni and potential employers – DMLS is a great academic and professional step forward.

DBCSThe Desaultels Business Conference on Sustainability (DBCS) allows students to learn, share, and connect with leading experts from corporations, NGO’s, and academia on sustainability. It targets some of the brightest students from universities across North America to gather a multilateral perspective on issues relating to sustainability. This conference focuses on the triple bottom line: social, environmental, and economic effects.

TRADING SIMULATIONInterested in experiencing the excitement and anxiety of a real trading floor? The McGill Trading Simulation provides students an opportunity to challenge each other in the open market by trading shares and options of corporations through a computer system that updates quotations and news in real-time. The McGill Trading Simulation is one of the largest and most prestigious in North America bringing together 200 students from top universities in the United States and Canada.

FIVE DAYS FOR THE HOMELESS5 Days for the Homeless is a charity campaign founded in 2005 by students from the University of Alberta. It is a five day campaign during which university students live as a homeless person on campus to raise money and awareness for a local charity. All proceeds go to Dans La Rue, a charity that support homeless teenagers and women.

EXTERNAL COMPETITIONS

JEUX DU COMMERCE (JDC)Jeux du Commerce is a wildly fun and crazy intercollegiate competition where over 1,200 students from 13 business schools from Eastern Canada compete in social, academic and sport events. Balancing fun and academics, Jeux du Commerce encourages relationships between people and companies of the next generations’ business world.

JDC CENTRAL (JDCC)JDC Central (JDCC) is the equivalent of Jeux du Commerce for central and eastern Canada, with 13 participating schools and over 1000 delegates. It combines academics, athletics and social challenges to test undergraduate business students in a highly competitive and spirited environment. JDCC also boasts three amazing night events, each evening is themed and the competition concludes on the third and final night with the gala dinner and awards ceremony.

HAPPENING MARKETINGHappening Marketing is the biggest marketing case competition in Eastern Canada. With 12 different participating business schools, this event unites more than 450 of the best marketing students. Over the course of three days, students test their knowledge through academic, sports and social challenges, as well as meet marketing students from other schools, and network with potential employers.

FINANCIAL OPENThe Financial Open is an academic case competition that unites some of the best accounting and finance students from over ten schools in Eastern Canada. Through six finance and accounting cases and a stock simulation, students test their knowledge and presentation skills. In addition to these competitions, participants get to exchange and network with the sponsoring companies.
